INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

To study and work at the same time is becoming a thing these days. Many people

who are unhappy with their jobs, and who want to gain new skills, but studying

part time while work full time clearly requires a lot of effort. Putting so much of

your mental and physical energy into this uneasy arrangement can quickly leave

you feeling fatigued, stressed, or both. Either way, there are possibilities to

educate yourself further if you’re in need of a knowledge booster, if want to

improve the work ethic, or if are looking to pursue a new field. In our current

society, it’s become a reality to work and study amidst our busy lifestyles. These

days, everything expensive and economy up and down, what we need to do is

eand finding ways to earn our income. Yet essentially, studying and working at

the same time may not be such a bad idea. Or perhaps we are working purely to

pay the bills and survive the rising food prices.

Taking on a part-time study while having a full-time job is challenging work, but

the benefits are typically greater than everything. First, we get to keep our current

job. This way can avoid the stress of having to find new employment in the future.

At the same time, a good result is a powerful addition to our CV and may result in

a promotion. Second, we may develop a brand-new set of skills. Knowledge

gained from this study and the demands of combining study and work will play a

vital role in our personal and professional development. We will likely improve

our time management skills, learn to set goals, keep a positive attitude and work

harder. No need to worries about tuition fees. An excellent job is a fantastic way

to avoid debt and focus on long-term plans. With the right salary, we are able to

pay the tuition fees and even save some extra cash. Gain invaluable work
experience. The extra years of employment may open the way to better job

opportunities.

Upon a time, we gonna realize it’s had to find time to do the work. Many part-

time students face the challenge of balancing study time with daily

responsibilities. The maybe challenge we will face is less time for our self and

family. Studying while working full-time might mean facing a few very

demanding years, that could prove difficult for both self and our loved ones. Most

likely, we will have to put many of our hobbies on hold for a while. Doing the

part-time study is more stress, less energy. This is especially true during exam

periods or when asked to meet important deadlines. Students with jobs that require

creativity, such as writers, may experience occasional creative blocks, due to

fatigue. The great amount of work may also affect the grades. Less time for school

activities, study groups or projects. A great part of university life is about creating

new contacts and building a future professional network. Current job may

interfere with our social life and require alternative means of communication,

usually through online services. The other challenge we might face is expect the

unexpected. Unpredictable events may interfere with our schedule, such as an

unplanned important business meeting, working overtime or extra schoolwork

clash with each other.

When we make decision to become part-time student means that we willing to

take other responsibility and it automatically added level of stress. And while this

is common for part-time students, there's the challenge of dealing with that kind of

stress in a way that's going to render a positive outcome toward on academic

work. Way to handle stress while part-time study is managed time and plan proper

our coursework time table. at least we know what we should do first. if we not set
all this thing properly our work and coursework will clash. that time we will feel

down, give up and everything. this because each coursework has its own set of

demands. The syllabus alone requires hours of reading assignments and projects

that need to be done outside of class. that why the vital thing is plan proper our

time management between work and study. Having a full-time job in any industry

can have its challenges and expectations. If you add education to an already busy

schedule, it will just increase the amount of pressure. To success we need be

motivated. Before we done decision to continue part-time study we have own

reason so staying motivated to study because the first reason why we do the

decision before. Break it down Instead of feeling overwhelmed by the million-

and-a-half things you need to do, try to break down your to-do list into a

manageable list of priorities

The reasonable tips to balance working and study at the same time first is remind

our self of those dates. Whether we’ve added them to a diary, a Google calendar

or on a wall planner, make sure the dates are written down in a place where it will

see them regularly. That way no deadlines will reap up on us. Think about

displaying a timetable at work, at home or on computer. Second is Consider when

studying will work best for us because Our brains all work in different ways. For

some people, they find they are most productive after work whereas others may

find it difficult to engage with a fresh piece of work having done a 9 to 5 day.

Instead, try studying in the mornings before going to work or on lunch break. Or

maybe other prefer to do a few hours of solid study on a Saturday morning or

break up study over shorter periods during the week. Keep Self-motivated Why

are we studying for the qualification? Continually take time out to remember what

we hope to gain from the qualification. Motivation will keep us working hard and
help to take the time to sit down and study. Stay balanced Keep calm, focused and

look after our self. To help us study at an optimum rate it’s important to take the

time to look after own self as well. Eat healthily, drink lots of water and take

regular exercise. Also remember to take time out with friends and enjoy

socializing. It’s important to take a breather now and then so we can feel on the

ball when we do get back in to studying. It’s all about finding a balance that works

for us.

1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT

Studying for an additional qualification can give us the next much-needed step on

our career path. We will bring new skills to the workplace, be open to new

opportunities and develop our interests. For many people, the idea of going back

to college or university while working a full-time job can be daunting. Handling a

full-time job and your studies at the same time requires a good level of planning

and prioritization. While some students would choose not to work while furthering

their education, there is a massive group of students who are balancing a job while

studying for an upgrade their certificate. There are several reasons for this but,

generally speaking, money is key.

The great benefit of studying part-time is the flexibility to ‘earn-while-you-learn’.

At the same time, the professional qualifications that we can acquire over time

will give us a good head start in developing our career and able improves the soft

skills that are relevant to most professions and sectors which is ability to work

remotely, effective communication, self-motivation, time management. Living in

both of student and professional life can be tough and put a lot of strain on our

personal life. Then again, we can turn this strain into motivation and get great

results.
Employees who opted to upgrade themselves by continuing their education will

have to sacrifice and divide their time accordingly in which they will have to learn

while working. They could be working in day time and learning at night time or

working on weekdays and learning during the weekends. It is believed that these

arrangements significant influence on their work and generate an impact in an

individual's performance at work.

While many grad students and workers routinely feel tired and stressed by their

work, as a full-time worker and part-time student we will likely encounter stress

and fatigue levels well beyond those of most of your colleagues. Therefore, this

research will emphasize on:

 how to successfully handle job and studies at the same time for part time

student.

 At the same time, this research will identify the factors to help to balancing

the two activities and bring solutions for employee to face the challenges.

 Therefore, the impact and ways to manage their studying part-time while

working will be the main purpose of this study.

1.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The purpose of this study was to identify students on how to successful handle job and

studies at the same time for part time student based on other universities besides UiTM.

Thus, the study suggests several objectives to be attained as follows:

(a) To investigate the benefit of part time student

(b) To determine the challenges that shall faces by part time students between work

and study
(c) To find out on how part time students cope with their stress level in daily life

(d) To improve the balancing work and study while working full time

(e) To analyze how motivate employees and employers to further study as part time

students

1.4 SIGNIFICANT OF THE STUDY

The findings of the study will provides the benefits of doing part time study as for

enhance their career. Firstly, they will get valuable information about students on how

they manage their time between study and work life at the same time for their family.

The findings will also provide how their faces stress level by doing part time study

while working full time. Besides, the information also gives what that leads them to

further student while working. Therefore, part time student could act accordingly once

they have identified the source that need to be developed.

1.5 LIMITATION OF STUDY

Adult learning is influenced by their self-control over their own learning goals, their

vast learning resources gained from life experiences and social roles, their own learning

strategies, and their evaluation of their own performance. Students may facing new

challenges to perform in their academic results due to having a roles of conflict between

academics and other responsibilities such as family, work and social life (Chao,

DeRecco, & Flynn, 2007; Fairchild 2013). Based on the surveys in many universities,

students have unique characteristics could influence their academic learning differently.

The most impacted the finding surveys are married student rarely does not have any

children yet because of the limitation of time and distinctive characteristics that led to
significantly different life’s experiences. Some studies associated adult characteristics

with poor time management, limited study skills, lack of financial resources, problems

related to work and family commitments that contributed to their failure to complete

studies or low academic achievement (Abdol Latif & Fadzil, 2007; Fairchild, 2003;

Robotham & Julian, 2006).

1.6 SCOPE OF STUDY

This survey only involved fifty respondents consisting of part time student from IPTA

and IPTS around west Malaysia. These respondents were different type of course that

taking a part time study from other universities besides UITM. The duration of this

study was one week, starting from 4th November 207 to 11th November 2017 which had

limited the scope of study in terms of time management to meet the respondents at

different type of places. This study may be limited by the questionnaire as a data

collection instrument because questionnaires basically only for people who are working

and also taking a part time study, as for other areas that not involve may not have been

included in the questionnaire. Besides, the respondents has divided equally for this

study to 25 male and 25 female that is taking a part time study.

CONCLUSIONS

Based on the findings from our questionnaire, we found that further study in part time

has many challenges in time management, money management and distance between

work place to home, also from college to home. Many of students taking part time study

between range 22 until late 30 to further study. This is because most of them wanted to

gain as much knowledge as they can, also to get job promotion in their company.
In addition, they are not found hard to graduate on time since they are planned their

study time based on their preferences. Every student has their different unique

characteristics to study. Hence, it is most effective and efficient in learning process

while working.
