Railway Recruitment Board conducts the Railway Loco Pilot Exam every year to recruit eligible
candidates for the post of the loco pilot. The job of the loco pilot in Railways is to assist the
driver who pilots the train.
Every year around 2.5 lakh candidates appear for this exam. It is expected that this year too,
Railway Board has announced 23801 vacancies of RRB Loco Pilot 2017 Exam.

The written exam is the first step towards your dream of becoming a loco pilot in Railways. It
consists of 6 subjects which are mentioned below.
1. General Awareness 25 25
2. Arithmetic 20 20
3. General 05 05
Intelligence
4. Reasoning 10 10
5. General Science 30 30
6. Technical Ability 30 30
General Awareness
This section consists of the questions based on the current Affairs and Static GK.
The questions are asked mainly from the following sections: History, Current Affairs, Polity,
Economy, Static GK Topics like: First in India, Important historical monuments of India, Books
and Authors, Sports etc.
This section can save your time in the exam, if prepared well.
Arithmetic
This section consists of 20 questions. The questions asked in this section are from the topic:
Simplification based on four elementary operations Additions, Subtraction, Multiplication,
Division, Fraction, Decimal, “BODMAS” rule, LCM, HCF, Percentage profit and loss, Time and
work, Time and distance, Ratio and proportion, Partnership, Set theory, Trigonometry,
Statistics.
Reasoning
This section is easy as compared to other sections. The questions are tricky. The important
topics of this section are:
Analogy, Classifications (or add man out), Coding decoding, Distance and direction test, Blood
relations, Puzzle test, Ranking & arrangement logical diagram, Alphabet test, Finding missing
Number, Arithmetical Reasoning, Mathematical operations and non-verbal topics like
Reasoning.
Technical Ability
This section consists of the questions from the following technical subjects:
1. Mechanical
2. Electrical
3. Electronics
4. Automobile
The candidate who clear the written examination are eligible for the document verification
stage, which is the second stage of RRB ALP Selection process.
During this stage, the candidates will have to produce their original documents. No extra time
will be allotted to the candidate, if he fails to appear in this verification stage.
NOTE: Some RRBs provide 2nd Document Verification opportunity to the candidates. This is in
the case of candidates absent during first stage verification process due to some reasons.
If the candidate does not appear in this final chance, then his candidature is cancelled by the
authority.
The candidates who pass the document verification stage are recommended for appointment
to the provisional panel. The candidate who will have to pass requisite medical fitness test
conducted by RRBs.
