General description of piling works

1.1. Piling works
Steel piles are to be driven by a fixed leader piling barge and the steel pile will be
driven to its required final refusal. The sequence of piling works shall commence from
the pier side towards the jetty side of the port facility.

Prior to steel pile driving, a guide frame will be lifted by a crane and driven by a Vibro
hammer mounted on a barge. A guide frame and pile will be driven accordingly to
approve pile point. Steel pipes are enclosed by a guide frame to ensure the verticality
and alignment of the piles. Piles will be driven from offshore toward onshore by a
fixed leader piling barge to its design depth.

The following steps shall be carried out in performing pile driving work:

 Locate the pile position with the assistance of the survey instrument;

 Peg mark will be placed to identify the pile location;

 Position the fixed leader crane close to the pile location and the feeder
crane will position beside the fixed leader crane.

 Feeder crane will handle, pitch and lower the pile to the peg mark
location of the pile;

 Fixed leader crane move and set the hammer onto the pile top. Upon
the setting the pile hammer onto the pile top, the survey team will
check the pile verticality and make go signal if it in the vertical position;

 Drive the pile to its required driving length. During the driving
operation, record the number of blow and the penetration of the pile
at it is shown on pile calibration;

 Piling engineer will observe the pile penetration and the blow counts
before halting the driving operation;

 Final last ten blows will be record and graphical data will be collected
to the determine the final set of the pile;

 Repeat the steps until the completion of the pile works.

Photographs of fixed leader piling barge intended to be used is shown figure below
for better understanding of the piling barge.

A Schematic Pile Driving Process

1.2. Cutting of pile to the design cut-off level
After the platform is clamped into position the pile is accessible for the surveyors to
mark the pile cut-off level. When the cut-off level has been marked crane hoist will be
lowered and then tie the pile using a belt strap lifting sling and fixed it properly to
ensure safety. Once everything is ready the gas cutter will start cutting the pile using
a gas cutting torch until it is totally cut.

Excess piles will be placed onto the deck of the crane barge and it will be transported
to the plant for proper disposal.

1.3. General description of concreting works

The pier and jetty superstructure will be constructed using of precast shell elements
and cast in-situ concrete to fill-in the installed precast shell elements including the
deck topping slabs.

The pier and jetty reinforced concrete structural elements will be fabricated at the
project site casting yard. Precast concrete element will be removed from the casting
bed once the concrete has reach it required compressive strength for casting bed
handling and stocking.

1.4. Concrete pile plug

Concrete pile plug will commence immediately after the removal of excess soil plug
inside the driven pile using bored pile bucket.

Prior to the concrete pile plug, reinforcing steel bars fabrication and cage bars
assembly of the pre-bended reinforcing steel bars.

The reinforcing steel bars will be fabricated according to its detailed bar bending
diagrams and schedule. In the same manner, cage bar will be assembled according to
its required bar arrangements and cross sections.

The cage bars will be transported to the temporary ramps where the transport barge
is berthing. The cage bar will be unloaded from the transport truck and loaded to the
transport barge. After the loading of the cage bar, transport will be towed to the site
location of the driven piles. Crane barge will handle, lift and insert the cage bar into
the drive piles and then lower it slowly to its final setting.

After reaching it final setting, the cage will be fixed properly and weld onto the top of
the driven pile until the completion of the works.

Upon the completion of the cage bar installation, concrete works will commence
immediately to cast the in-situ concrete. Supply, transport and delivery of the ready
mixed concrete to the offshore site will be done using the transport barge and the
pumpcrete are onboard to the transport barge. The transport barge will be towed by
a tugboat and bring to the site where in-situ concrete is needed.

Concrete will be conveyed into the piles by using tremie method. Tremie pipe will be
assembled and lowered inside the pipe, allowing the concrete to be poured directly
by a pumpcrete from a barge until the pipe was filled. As concrete is placed into the
pile, an inspection shall be carried out checking the alignment, volume and level of
concrete to be poured. Concrete is allowed to cure according to its design strength.
After the pumpcrete completed the unloading of the ready mixed concrete, the
transport barge will be brought back again to the plant offload the transit mixers to
get another ready mixed concrete.

Furthermore, it is a repetitive process cycle of activities until the completion of the

concrete works.
