Definitions of Bully
Bullying means any overt acts by a person or a group of people
directed against another person or people with the intent to
ridicule, harass, humiliate or intimidate the other person.
Bullying is generally defined as an intentional act that causes harm to
others, and may involve verbal harassment, verbal or non-verbal threats,
physical assault, stalking, or other methods of coercion such as
manipulation, blackmail, or extortion. It is aggressive behavior that
intends to hurt, threaten or frighten another person.

Types of Bullying
Cyber bullying

= Psychological distress

School bullying
Cyber bullying

Definition • Bullying that takes place over digital devices like cell phones,
computers, and tablets.
• Includes sending, posting, or sharing negative, harmful, false, or
mean content about someone else.
• It can include sharing personal or private information about someone
else causing embarrassment or humiliation.

Characteristics • Can occur through SMS, Text, and apps, or online in social media,
forums, or gaming where people can view, participate in, or share
content.
• Allow cyber bullying perpetrators to maintain anonymity and give
them capacity to post messages to a wide audience.
• May feel reduced responsibility and accountability when online
compared with face-to-face situations.

School bullying

Definition A behavior that is:


• repeated
• intended to hurt someone either physically or emotionally
• often aimed at certain groups, for example because of race, religion,
gender or sexual orientation
• School bullying is widely known to be associated with many
negative indicators, including lower academic achievement, lower
school satisfaction, and lower levels of attachment and commitment
to school, known as school bonding
Characteristics • May witness physical and verbal violence or aggression at home.
They have a positive view of this behavior, and they act aggressively
toward other people, including adults.
• May hit or push other children.
• Are often physically strong.
• May or may not be popular with other children around their same
age.
• Have trouble following rules.
