Sura Yasin

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

This Sura is considered to be the “Heart of the Holy Quran”. The

abbreviated letters Yasin are usually construed as a title of the Holy Prophet.
This Sura is recited when a muslim is on the death-bed. It lightens for him the
painful seizure of his spirit (ruh).

The Sura commences with the words Yasin. By the Wise Quran which
is full of wisdom that you (The Holy Prophet) are one of those sent upon a
straight path. This is a revelation of the Mighty One, the Merciful, so that you
warn a people whose fore fathers were not warned and were unaware of right
and wrong.

Allah has put yokes around their (Meccan infidels) necks right up to
their chins. So that their heads are forced up (and they cannot see). Allah has
also put a bar in front of them and a bar behind them and has covered them up;
so that they cannot see. Whether you (Prophet Muhammad) admonish them or
not, they will not believe. You can but warn such a one who follows the
admonition and fears (Allah), the Compassionate unseen. Accordingly give
him the glad tidings of foregiveness and a magnificent reward. Verily, Allah
shall enliven the dead, and (presently) records what they send in advance. All
things have been detailed in a clear Book (of evidence).

Describe to them, the story of the villagers, when the apostles came to
them. When Allah sent two messengers and then Allah strengthened them with
the third messenger. They told lthem that they had come as messengers
towards them. The villagers said to the messengers that they were like
themselves and hence they were liars. The messengers told them that they
were on the mission from their Lord and their duty was to proclaim His clear
Message. But the villagers told them that they consider them evil and if they
did not desist, they would stone them to death. The messengers told that their
evil augury was due to their deeds because they had gone too much ahead not
to return to admonishment.

While the messengers were in arguments with the people of the

villages, a man came running from the far side of the town and he said: “Oh
my people, follow and obey these messengers, who are on the straight path
and whereas they do not ask any reward from you”. The man further said that
he had no excuse not to serve Allah who had created him and to whom they
would all have to return. If he made another god(s) for himself and Allah
wished to harm him, these gods could never help him. The man advised the
villagers to pay heed to his advice and obey the messengers. (The villagers
were infuriated by the man’s intercession). They killed him then and there.

The Sura further says that Allah admitted this man in the Paradise. He
was good enough to remember the villagers even there. He wished that they
were to know that Allah had forgiven him his sins and included him in the
honoured people of Paradise. He thought that this information might make
them change their attitude to the Prophets.

After this, eventually Allah decided to punish these people. Nothing

was needed but only one single piercing blast. This blast broke the hearts of all
residents of the town and they died instantaneously.

Allah further says: That there comes not a messenger to them (the
infidels) but they mock him. Do they (the Meccan infidels) not see how many
generations before them Allah had destroyed? Without exception they shall all
be produced before Allah on the Day of Judgement.

For them, the dead earth is a sign. Allah gave it life and produced grain
to eat from it. Allah planted palm trees; vine yards and flown springs in it, so
that these people may eat the fruits. Should not they thank Allah! Glory to
Him, who has created pairs of all what the earth grows, and of themselves, and
of the things they know not.

There is another Sign – “night” for them. Allah lifts the light of the day
and plunges it into darkness. The sun goes on towards its sunset place in
routine as laid by the All Knowing Mighty One. He has also ordained the
phases for the moon till it becomes like an old dried curved leaf of the palm
tree. Sun is not allowed to reach to the moon, or to over take it nor the night
can come before the day. And each glides along (its) course.

There is also another sign for them that Allah, by his mercy, carried
their (Noah’s) kith and kin to safely in a laden Ark and inspired them to create
similar other vessels.

When the trumpet would be blown up (the second blast of

resurrection), they all will rush towards their Lord from their graves, and
would say as to who had waked them up from their graves.

This is what the Lord has promised and the same told by the
messengers. On that day no wrong would be done to any soul. And every soul
shall be repaid in accordance to their past deeds.

The dwellers of Paradise would be enjoying on this day. They and their
consorts would be reclining on couches in shades and for them shall be
whatever they ask for. “Peace” shall be the word of greeting to them from their
Lord.

The unbelievers, after resurrection, will be segregated from the

righteous believers, as their disposal would be different. Allah will then
question them: Where you not told not to worship Satan. He is your open foe.
You worship Allah and that is the right path. Indeed the Satan led astray of you
a great chunk of people. Why did you not them understand? This is the Hell,
which was promised to you. Enter it this day. This Day, Allah shall put a seal
on their mouths but their hands and feet shall testify their past misdeeds. If He
had so willed, He could have blinhded the disbelievers in their life as a
retributary measure; and then they would have ran here and there and groped
for the way, but they would have not found it. He could have even transformed
them and fixed them like idols in their houses. Allah then declared that if He
had so willed, He could have transformed the disbelievers during their life and
decapacitated them from pursuing their disbelief. But mercifully He did not do
it.

Allah then draws the attention of the unbelievers that He has the power
to whom He brings to the old age and reverse back his growth (a second
childhood supervenes). Allah did not teach Prophet to say poetry nor it is, to
his dignity. It is simply an admonition and a clear Book.

Did they not see His handiwork in the creation of cattle of which they
call themselves as owners? He had subjected the same to them so that some of
them they ride, some they eat yet of some they drink their milk. Yet the
infidels have made other gods beside Allah. These gods cannot help them but
they would appear as witness on the Day of Judgement. Accordingly, let not
their expressions grieve you. Allah knows what they conceal and what they
disclose.

Did not this man see that Allah created him from a drop of sperm? But
he still openly argues, about Allah, forgetting his creation. He asks who will
give life to the bones, when they have become rotten dust. Say to them: He
will give them life who created them at first and Allah knows every type of
creation. He is Who created for you the fuel fire to light the things out of the
green trees. Is not He, Who created heavens and earth. He is powerful, All
Wise knower to re-create the like of those dusted bones. It is Allah’s
command, whenever, He intends to do something, He says to it, Be and it is
there.

Glory be to Him Whose Mighty Hands have the dominion over all
things and to Whom you will return.
