Literacy
How is Treasure House Structured?
Print and digital pupil resources are organised into the skills laid out in the
curriculum: Comprehension; Composition; Vocabulary, Grammar and Punctuation;
and Spelling. All these skills are brought together in the Teacher’s Guides, which
provide a complete, coherent scheme to cover every year of English lessons.
Teacher’s Guides
All the language skills for the year group are brought together into
one coherent sequence, which you can use as a complete plan for
your whole year’s literacy lessons, or as a flexible starting point. The
Teacher Guides provide progression for your pupils, and support you
in delivering a more demanding skills-based curriculum.
Vocabulary, Grammar
and Punctuation
Boost dictionary skills and enable an effective use
of vocabulary with fun and practical activities, and
develop children’s knowledge and understanding
of grammar and punctuation skills.
www.collins.co.uk collins.international@harpercollins.co.uk 47
Literacy
Spelling
Reinforce each spelling rule with a huge, varied
bank of practice questions and help children to
remember key spelling rules by investigating
how they work. On Collins Connect activities
are auto-marked, saving you time.
Comprehension
Includes high quality, annotated text extracts covering non-fiction,
reports, poetry, traditional tales and more. Pupils will retrieve
and record information, learn to draw inferences from texts and
increase their familiarity with a wide range of literary genres.
Composition
Children will learn how to write effectively and for a purpose. Non-fiction
units cover organising and summarising ideas, and using different structural
devices. Fiction units include planning creative writing, discussing and
recording ideas, as well as building more sophisticated sentence structures.
Collins Primary Focus offers a rigorous and enjoyable set of resources that support children in
developing key language and literacy skills. The series covers Comprehension, Writing, Grammar and
Punctuation, Spelling, Vocabulary and Handwriting.
● Learning aims are clearly stated at the start of each ● Integrated assessment helps you to identify the
unit, followed by a clear explanation of the subject, learning needs of your pupils and check progress
and activities that allow children to practise, easily
