The Lost Cause Chronicle

Gabriel Van Dorn

Assistant Undersecretary of Homeland Affairs and the Postal Office

BIOGRAPH
Born: June 28, 1873. The fourth and youngest son of Earl van Dorn (1820 to 1900), President of the
Confederate States (1892). The younger Van Dorn attended University of Virginia (during which time
he pledged the Kuklos Klan) and Duke University School of Law.

J.W. Booth

Following graduation in 1896, he was recruited to the CSA State Department as an assistant attaché.
He rose quickly, becoming a protégé to Undersecretary of State John Wilkes Booth.

In 1902, Van Dorn was promoted to the prestigious and politically-connected post of Consul General
for the Confederate mission to the Court of St James.

After the election of Robert E. Lee, Jr. as President of the CSA, Van Dorn was moved from State to
the Home Office, where he currently serves Home Secretary Jed Davis as Assistant Undersecretary.

DEEP BACKGROUND When the October 13, 1883 Sonora Accords were forged between the
elders of the Confederate Syndicate and the inhuman servants of the Great Old Ones, Van Dorn was
a child of nine. His father was an elder of the group, and like the other politically-connected members
of the Syndicate, he offered members of his family as guarantors for the humans’ acquiescence to
the agreement. After his college apprenticeship in the Kuklos Klan, the younger Van Dorn learned of
these machinations, and, to his horror, his own tenuous place in the matter.
As Van Dorn’s ties and responsibilities within the Syndicate grew, he
learned the true magnitude of the horror in which he was embroiled: that the Elders’ deal was
effectively a surrender of the human race—in service of their own, selfish motives—to the eldritch
horrors from Beyond.

Van Dorn is aware that certain highly placed Confederate citizens have become aware of the
Syndicate’s goals, and have organized in opposition. He doesn’t know who these individuals are, but
has been contacted by one of their agents, who he knows only as “Shenandoah” (in actuality, the
Special Branch operative Hugo Black, who works secretly for Georgia Gov. Wade Hamilton, the
leader of the secret CSA resistance).

These opposition members—who style themselves “The Cause”—have received selective

information from Van Dorn (through Shenandoah), who hopes that the resistance will discover the
depth and breadth of the conspiracy before the end comes.
