General Manager Reports Allseas Marine S.A.
Our drive for excellence all the previous years, has led us to a series of achievements, most of which were awarded in 2009.
ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications proved that our systems, our mentality, our standards target the
quality and the socially responsible operation.
Allseas Marine has been one of the very few shipping companies (only four) who adopted the principles and the methods of
the EBEN and the EFQM.
The European Business Ethics Network founded in 1987 as a non-profit association. Its objective is to promote the
principles of Corporate Ethics, of corporate governance, Social Responsibility in public and private sector, in academic
community and non-profiteering organizations.
Our company was awarded the bronze medal on May 2008 and the silver medal on May2009. We have already prepared our
systems to comply with the requirements of the silver medal which we expect to receive on May 2010.
The European Foundation for Quality Management is a non-profit organization and a recognized leader in promoting
and supporting the implementation of Sustainable Excellence. It helps organizations to continuously improve and achieve
higher levels of performance.
EFQM Committed to excellence award was granted to Allseas Marine on September 2009. For 2010 our plan is to move to
the next level of this model and achieve the “Recognized to excellence” award.
Our ITT (Information Technology and Telecommunications) innovations have been used as case studies by Microsoft and
RIM Canada for presenting to the Shipping Community the software developed by our company for unified electronic filing
and documents management, business intelligence and KPI module.
Our ITT department contributing the efforts of Allseas to offer the best to our crew implemented the “Intelligent Vessel”.
This is a usdollar 50,000, per vessel, investment offering exceptionally effective tools to the crew for performing their duties
more efficiently, especially nowadays that there are many rules and regulations we are obliged to comply with. One of the
significant benefits of the intelligent vessel is the email service that now our crew can enjoy at no cost.
It is needless to say that no achievement and no reward is possible without the participation and the commitment of the
Allseas staff, the Crewcare team and our crew.
For this I would like to thank every member in our organization for his/ her contribution.
However, notwithstanding the achievements and the rewards of 2009 we all have to realize that shipping is a very
challenging industry that allows no complacency.
We must be, constantly, striving for the best. The achievements, the awards, the higher operating level demand from all of
us to be alert.

CrewCare Inc.
President
As our company readies for a new business year 2010, we are also preparing for a more challenging year. One in
which I am sure we will be able to acquire more vessels and regain more strength in the market. We have enough
Officers and crew to fill the requirements of our new vessels. This is something I am completely confident of.
To be able meet our goals for 2010, we will be required to work and be focused, and learn to always think
positively regarding our results. Therefore, to achieve this goal we must improve our work by altering our
attitudes and minds. A good work attitude, a lot of prayers, patience, and optimism, and all will be achieved.
We must realize that the route to future success may entail trial and error, and may include some minor failures
and mistakes which we should counteract.
Despite the crisis, typhoons and calamities in the last year, we were able to prevail; business was good and we
can enjoy the safe shelter that our Principals offer. This year will be our 10th anniversary in the Manning
Industry and we are preparing some surprises and a big bang, and to start with is our May 2010 Officers/Crew
and Wives Conference. So, I enjoin everybody to cooperate, and if you have something in mind to contribute
for the success of our celebration, please feel free to inform us. In addition, we are planning to have another
medical mission, save the earth and green campaign by planting some trees nearby, and a lot more.
Let us all look forward to a brighter 2010 and more vessels for our company. Let us hope for peace, prosperity
and good health for everybody, especially for our principal, Allseas Marine, SA.
Let us all work with passion, as every year is a new beginning, every year brings opportunities, and let me be a
leader who can be of service to the best of my abilities to our crew and their families.
Again , our heartfelt gratitude goes to our principal Allseas Marine SA for their never ending trust and
confidence.
Wishing you all good things, and happy and safe sailing (for our crew on board) for this year, 2010.

COMMITMENT
TO
EXCELLENCE
EBEN The EBEN Business Ethics model is to promote ethics and excellence in businesses, to increase awareness
about ethical challenges in the global marketplace. The model methodology is based on the application
of all known requirements within the field of corporate social responsibility and corporate governance
linked with a Standard Corporate Code of Ethics implemented at all levels and at all locations (ashore
and onboard).
In 2008, the Company was awarded among other word-wide known companies with the Bronze Medal on
Business Ethics Excellence Model demonstrating its commitment to high transparency methods towards
all involved stakeholders, shareholders and customers. Continuing its business ethics excellence quest in
2009 was awarded with its Silver Medal certifying that core competencies of the model have become part
of its day-to-day operation. For 2010, the company has already applied and is seeking to be awarded with
the Golden Medal, thus marking Allseas Marine SA Business Ethics Excellence Company in the market.
EFQM The European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) is a model that assists companies to a journey
whishing to pursue Excellence. That is not easy to be achieved. A maturity level (Ashore and onboard)
in model criteria and philosophy is not only to be demonstrated but infused in people thinking. It helps
companies to identify their organizational goals and gives guidance on how to achieve them. It also supports
our quest for improvement recognizing that this is a continuous process.
In 2009, Allseas Marine SA was awarded for its first level achievement being a company “Committed to
Excellence” among other word-wide known companies. This award is designed for companies starting
their journey towards Excellence. It provided Allseas Marine Sa with a practical and simple approach
on which we have built our knowledge and experience to fulfill the 3 projects being the Environmental
Management, Integration of Document Management System and Ashore Employees Opinion Survey.
For 2010, the company has already applied for the next level of award which will mark Allseas Marine
Sa as a company “Recognized for Excellence in Europe”. This way the 8 fundamental concepts of the
model and the implementation of all nine criteria of the model, will lead the company one step forward
in its long journey to excellence.

The rains were heavy in the night before the seminar on Sept 24, 2009 and the news said that there was a typhoon. But in the morning of our
conference, the rain was not so heavy and a lot of attendees came. Thus making the event successful one even if the heavy rains was a threat.
The yearly conference is very important for our company because it is where the true caring and letting all the crew and their wives
feel their importance in the company.
The conference is a commendable gesture of our Principal to impart additional incentives, like testing to equip all Crewcare vessels with
internet capable to expedite communication with our crew’s family. Allseas General Manager, Mr. Georgios Skrimizeas in his opening remarks
said that a monetary and non-monetary benefit will be added and it is the company’s intention to announce its immediate implementation.

FLU TREATMENT
Need help deciding which treatments are effective for the flu and swine flu? Wonder how you can manage flu and
swine flu symptoms? Though flu treatments won’t cure the flu or swine flu; there are flu treatments that can
relieve common flu symptoms such as fever, aches, fatigue, and congestion. Some flu treatments may
actually shorten the time you have flu symptoms.
If you have flu symptoms, and there has been a swine flu outbreak in your area, it’s a good idea to call your doctor.
The doctor may prescribe an antiviral medication such as Tamiflu or Relenza. Antiviral drugs treat swine flu by
preventing the virus from reproducing inside your body, but they are most effective if you start them within two
days of when your symptoms begin. These drugs can also help your symptoms improve faster and can prevent
complications of swine flu.
There is no swine flu vaccine. The seasonal flu vaccine is not effective against swine flu.
The flu treatment you should take depends on your symptoms. For example, if you have nasal or sinus congestion, then a decongestant can be helpful.
Oral decongestants can come in many forms – pills, tablets, capsules, or syrups. Decongestants are used to open the mucous membranes in the nose and help them to
drain. However, decongestants should not be used for more than a few days because if they are used for too long and then stopped, they can cause rebound symptoms.
If you have a runny nose, postnasal drip, or itchy, watery eyes- then an antihistamine may be helpful for your flu symptoms. Antihistamines block the effect of
“histamine,” and help relieve such annoying symptoms such as sneezing, itching, congestion, and nasal discharge.
Over-the-counter antihistamines often make people drowsy, whereas decongestants can make people hyper or keep them awake. Antihistamines can make mucus thick,
which can be a problem if you have lung disease such as COPD or asthma, Keep in mind that both decongestants and antihistamines can interact with other drugs you may
be taking for conditions such as heart disease, and they may worsen some conditions. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about which flu treatment may be best for you.

Seaman’s Corner
Chief Engr. Jose Nobelo
I STAND HERE BEFORE YOU TO SHARE THE IMPORTANCE OF WORKING ON BOARD WITH A ZERO ACCIDENT TOLL. THE COMPANY, WITH UNDYING EFFORTS,
HAS TRIED VERY HARD TO HAVE ALL ITS SEAFARERS GRASP THE CONCEPT OF REAL SAFETY ON BOARD. IT IS NOT THE COMPANY WHICH BENEFITS FROM
HAVING ZERO ACCIDENT ON BOARD, IT IS US AND OUR FAMILIES, THE BENEFACTORS OF SUCH AN AIM.
(I DO NOT THINK THAT THERE IS ANYBODY WHO WOULD LOVE TO LOSE A HEALHTY HUSBAND? ARE THERE ANY? JOKE LANG PO.)
I CANNOT AGREE WITH ANYONE WHO SAYS THAT A ZERO ACCIDENT LEVEL IS VERY HARD TO ACHIEVE. INDEED, THERE ARE DIFFICULTIES INVOLVED WITH
HOW WE COULD EVADE SUCH CATASTROPHIC INCIDENTS, BUT IF WE ARE DETERMINED, WE CAN ACHIEVE THAT GOAL.
I FREQUENTLY HEAR FROM SEAFARERS THAT THE COMPANY’S SHIPBOARD OPERATIONAL MANUAL IS JUST ANOTHER ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION TASK.
IT WAS NOT WRITTEN WITH PREJUDICE. IF WE READ THE MANUAL CAREFULLY AND UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF IT, THEN WE REALIZE THAT THE COM-
PANY CARES ABOUT ITS SEAFARERS. IT IS RECIPROCAL; THE COMPANY CANNOT EXIST WITHOUT THE SEAFARERS, AND SEAFARERS, AS WELL, CANNOT EXIST
WHEN THERE IS NO COMPANY.
ON BOARD MANAGEMENT HAS A VERY SPECIAL ROLE IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SAFETY PRACTICES, WHICH, WITH THE GUIDANCE OF THE COMPANY’S
QSV, ALL THE NECESSARY STEPS, READY FORMS AND CHECKLIST HAVE BEEN PROVIDED IN THE SHIPBOARD MANUAL.
IF WE REVIEW ALL THE ACCIDENTS THAT HAVE HAPPENED ON BOARD, THEN WE KNOW THAT THE ROOT CAUSE IS 90 PERCENT HUMAN ERROR. WHAT IS HAP-
PENING IS GROSS NEILIGENCE OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF WORKING PROCEDURAL SAFETY. AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED, ACCIDENTS HAPPEN, BUT THEY
CAN BE AVOIDED. ALWAYS REMEMBER THE ISM CODE: PLAN WHAT YOU DO AND DO WHAT YOU PLAN. TO EXPLAIN FURTHER; IF WE DO A PARTICULAR JOB,
PLANNING IS THE FIRST STAGE, WITH SAFETY BEING ONE OF THE CONCERNS. THE PLAN WAS DONE, SO DO WHAT YOU PLAN. IT IS JUST THAT SIMPLE AND
WITH THE AID OF THE COMPANY MANUALS, WHICH ARE PROVIDED ON ALL VESEELS, FOLLOWING SAFETY PRECAUTIONS ARE VERY ACCESSIBLE. FURTHER-
MORE, IF WE FOCUS, THEN ALL THE TASKS WILL BE CARRIED OUT SMOOTHLY AND ACCIDENT-FREE.
A BOSUN WAS IN A HURRY TO HAVE A HAND HELP HIM TIGHTEN THE SLACKED MOORING ROPE FORWARD WHILE LOADING WAS IN PROGRESS. 3/O & AB WERE
TENDERING THE ROPES AFT, THE O.S. WAS IN THE GANGWAY ATTENDING THE WATCH AS PER ISPS CODE. SHORT BY A HAND, BOSUN CALLED UP ONE OF THE
OFF DUTY DECKHANDS TO HELP HIM FORWARD. SINCE TIGHTENING OF THE MOORING CAN BE DONE IN A SHORT WHILE, THE AB WHO WAS SUMMONED WENT
WITH THE BOSUN FORWARD IN PLAIN CLOTHES; WITHOUT A HELMET AND ONLY IN SLIPPERS THINKING THAT IT WAS JUST A SMALL TASK. THE VESSEL WAS
LOADING GRAINS, AND ON THE WAY FORWARD HE SLIPPED ON DECK, FELL AND SUSTAINED A CUT ON THE HEAD AND BRUISES ON THE ARMS. THE VESSEL
WAS SCHEDULED TO SAIL, AND DUE TO TIME CONSTRAINS, COULD NOT WAIT FOR HIM TO BE DISCHARGED FROM THE HOSPITAL. A FINAL ARRANGEMENT
WAS MADE, SINCE THE VESSEL HAD SAILED, THAT HE WOULD BE REPATRIATED AFTER MEDICATION. HE WAS AN AB AND HAD TO WAIT JUST A COUPLE OF
MONTHS TO DISEMBARK AND SIT FOR HIS LICENSURE EXAM, BUT BECAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT, HE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE THE LICENSURE EXAM AND
THEREFORE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT AGAIN. HE LOST HIS OPPORTUNITY. IF HE WAS SAFETY CONSCIOUS, DRESSED IN THE PROPER CODE; WEARING SAFETY
SHOES AND HELMET, HE WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THAT ACCIDENT THAT PREVENTED HIM FROM FULFILLING HIS PLANNED LICENSURE EXAM.
NOW IN YOUR ANALYSIS, WHO LOST BECAUSE OF IGNORING SAFETY PRACTICES? HE WAS VERY LUCKY THAT IT WAS JUST MINOR CUTS & BRUISES. WHAT IF
IT WAS BEYOND THE UNEXPECTED? HOW MUCH TIME WOULD HAVE BEEN LOST PUTTING ON THE OVERALLS, SAFETY SHOES & HELMET? THINK OF THAT. THE
ACCIDENT CLEARLY SHOWS GROSS HUMAN ERROR.
WEEKLY TRAININGS AND VIDEOS OF DIFFERENT SAFETY PRACTICES ON BOARD ARE CARRIED OUT REGULARLY, AND ARE CLOSELY MONITORED BY OUR
QSV. BUT IF WE DO NOT COOPERATE, THEN ALL OF THOSE EFFORTS ARE USELESS.
FOR A SAFE AND BETTER ENVIRONMENT, RELIGIOUSLY PRACTICE THEM ON BOARD. WE LOVE OUR FAMILIES AND WE ARE WORKING FOR THEM, AND IN RE-
TURN, OUR FAMILIES WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY IF WE RETURN FROM THE VESSEL SAFE, SOUND AND STRONG. WIVES, DO YOU AGREE WITH ME?
