Skills Assessment Evidence Guide
This guide provides information about the types of evidence you need to provide and how to
present your evidence clearly. This will enable assessors to make a fair and accurate
assessment decision.
a. Resumé
A resumé is a summary of your past employment and training. Your resumé should include:
Personal details Brief personal details such as your name, address and contact
information.
Licences A list of your licences and the type of work that each licence allows you
to do.
Referees A list of people you have worked with or currently work with, who can
confirm your experience and also provide more information about you.
You should include the phone numbers or other contact details of your
referees.
You should provide the following evidence to demonstrate your employment history:
Taxation record/assessment advice
Annual payment summary/group certificate
Pay slips
Bank statements
Superannuation employer contributions
Position description.
You do not need to include all your payslips or tax returns. Include a sample that shows the
length of time you have been working for a company.
Your work records must include the name of the employer or company and dates you worked
there.
c. References
You should include copies of qualifications (such as an apprenticeship) and records of training
you have completed related to your trade.
e. Licences
You should include copies of any valid licences you hold that are related to your trade.
f. Photographs of work
You can provide photos of yourself completing a task in your workplace as evidence if they:
show you wearing the correct personal protective equipment (PPE)
show you working before, during and after the job
include a description of what you are doing and why
include details of where and when the task was completed.
g. Videos of work
You can provide a short video recording of you completing a task in your workplace as
evidence if:
the assessor can always see it is you doing the work and not someone else
the recording has you talking about what you are doing and why
the assessor can clearly see you are working in a safe manner during the task.
Your digital recording should be submitted on a USB or CD using a standard video file format
(e.g.: AVI or MPEG). This recording will be kept by VETASSESS as evidence. You cannot provide
a YouTube link.
To see all the units of competency that you will be assessed against, download the Fact
Sheet for your trade from: https://www.vetassess.com.au/skills-assessment-for-
migration/trade-occupations/guides-and-factsheets
The skills assessment process requires you to prove you are competent in a number of these
units of competency.
For example, below is a unit of competency taken from the qualification ‘MEM30305
Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade’.
To be assessed as competent in this unit, your assessor would be looking for evidence or
proof that you can:
identify the requirements of the job from drawings or instructions
clean and prepare materials before welding
set up the GMAW unit and other equipment correctly and safely
weld in a safe manner not harming yourself, others or the environment.
I have:
read the Fact Sheet and understood the units of competency I will be assessed
against
included my resumé
provided notes for each piece of evidence explaining which unit/s of competency it
provides evidence for
provided a cover sheet for my evidence (e.g. by using the template at Appendix C),
clearly showing where the assessor can find my evidence for each unit of competency
