In the name of Allah Almighty, The most Beneficent, The most Merciful!

Well Guys!

General overview for OET ( I am not an expert.. below are a handful of things I went through during my
prep  ..hope u will find it useful to begin with! )

All the general info available at:

www.occupationalenglishtest.org

remember to book a date before the closing date that is usually 3 weeks prior to the test, after which u
cannot book/cancel your test!

FAQs:

How much time is required?

Well it depends on your own abilities. So assess yourself by having an overview of the sample material
available at the above mentioned website. Also if u have taken IELTS or OET before, then it really
matters ..cz your reflexes are already tuned up! If u havnt, don’t worry! Just give yourself enuff time to
polish your language skills 

IELTS vs OET?

I personally believe that writing and speaking of OET are easier than those of IELTS but not the listening
and reading part which are tougher for OET. But overall speaking, u can pass OET by scoring lesser score
(65% in each section) whereas IELTS demands a higher score( i.e 7 band out of 9)! Also marking
strategies are bit different..so its not quite possible to compare these 2 different tests.. 

TIPS :

 First and foremost, go through the samples , marking guide, sub test info and support pack for
prep, given online at the website before asking for anything from any random person. This will
save your time from being wasted and mind from being confused!
 For each section, sort out the material in different folders, get some of it printed and practice
with a timer on, otherwise its of no use!
 For writing section, stick to the online sample and don’t follow any other pattern for the
pattern. Practice as much as u can. Make a rough plan before u write. This will save u from
erasing again n again during your test. Follow the word count. 180-200 words. +/- 10 is ok!!!
Master the tenses n spellings. Learn where to use which tense. A recheck read at the end is
veryyyy important to correct any mistakes. Lastly, Be precise!
 For listening, they expect a lot from you. So get the listening sheets printed and practice!!! They
say they will give u 2 mins at the end to complete your answers, but unfortunately it was not
the case with me! I just got 1 min  so complete in the intervals during the session!
 For reading, ( now comes the trickiest part :o ) time is really short for part A.. print n practice to
comprehend what u read! Most important, keep your nerves in control during the exam even if
u cant find the answer . I could not do that n panicked, that blurred my vision even more during
the last key minutes. Relax n find the answers. Read the tips u find on website and in my
dropbox folder of OET material.
 For speaking, confidence n fluency are really important. Clinical knowledge is not assessed. So
stop thinking too intellectually. Just do a good chat with your role player. Its good to have a
partner for practice of this section. U will find many! Also remember your role player is not your
examiner. He is just there to act like a patient. He will interview u in the beginning that is
recorded as well, but NOT ASSESSED! Still its good to have few good answers for questions like:
Whats your profession?
What do u like about AUS?
Why did u become a doctor?
Whats your daily routine? Etc etc

OKI GUYS PEACE N BLESSINGS! PLEASE REMEMBER ME IN YOUR PRAYERS ( WAITING FOR MY
RESULT :S )
