Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jesus says: “Come and you will See.” In today’s gospel, Jesus did not preach – he invited. Our
children need fewer words and more examples. They need to see our faith before they can follow
Jesus. What are you preaching by your example?
319 Holy Hours were kept before the Blessed Sacrament this past week. We
have three (3) new committed adorers: Samuel Kettchbaher, Catherine Coffman and
Bryan Schenkenberger. Thank you and may God bless you always! We are in need of
a partner for an adorer on Tuesday 6-7am and a partner for Friday 7-8pm. Please
consider committing to one of these hours, call 330-690-9661. Remember: we will
cover your hour anytime you are unable to do so.

Barberton Area Community Ministries item for the Month of January is Potato products,
rice, noodles or boxed dinners. All donations can be placed in the bench in front of the
giving tree in the vestibule of the church. Donations are picked up on Monday mornings.

need.

The priests of St. Augustine are on the emergency call list to Barberton Hospital, they
are only called in cases of emergency. If you are in or have entered the hospital and
would like to be visited by one of our priest’s, please call the rectory at 330-745-0011.
If you have a surgery planned and would like to be anointed, please call prior to
hospitalization as to make sure you receive the sacrament. If there is someone you
know who has been returned to health and can be removed from the sick list, please
contact the rectory.

WOMEN OF FAITH will hold a meeting Tuesday, January 16, 6:30 pm in the school cafeteria. Members
of our group will give a presentation of their journey to Our Lady of Lourdes, Medjugorje and Fatima.

Mark your calendars for Right to Life - A Prayer Service for Forgiveness and Healing, Tuesday, January 23
following the Mass and Benediction (6:15 approximately) more information to follow.

For those preparing to have a child baptized in the near future, One requirement is that the
parents attend a Pre-Baptism Class. The next class will be held on January 23, 7:00pm at St.
Augustine. Registration is not necessary, Classes are held in the Rectory Meeting Room.
A conference for men featuring Father Patrick Schultz, Parochial Vicar, Communion of Saints Parish,
will be held on Saturday, January 27 at Saint Matthew Parish, 2580 Berne Street, Akron. The
conference will begin at 8:30 AM with breakfast and concluded at 5:00 PM with dinner for all men
and their families. The day will include inspiring talks, fellowship, Eucharistic Adoration, and an
opportunity for confession. This conference is open to men 18 and older. Registration price is $10
and reservations can be made by calling Saint Matthew Parish Office at 330-733-9944.

The Esther Ryan Shoe Fund will hold its Annual Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, February 9 from
4-7 PM at the Prince of Peace Social Hall, 1281 Shannon Ave. The cost is $6 for adults and
$3 for children under ten. There is meatless sauce and carry out for those wishing it. The
Barberton Firefighters are the chefs for the evening. Proceeds of this event will be used to
purchase shoes and socks for needy children in the Barberton Schools. For questions, call Elizabeth

Save the date for the QUEEN OF HEARTS (Shrove Tuesday) Card Party, February 13, in the SAC,
presented by the Women of Faith. Keep an eye on the bulletin for further information.

MILITARY BOARD UPDATE ~ We are happy to report that the military board is taking shape.
Many have contacted and shown support. So, if you have a family member that is in of any
branch of the military or a veteran, please forward a wallet sized picture (if available),
his/her name, branch of the military and rank, as well as, years of service and status (i.e. active, reserve,
vet) to the Rectory or via Carolyn King @ 330-234-7302. Thank YOU so much for helping us to make this
dream a reality!

Food, Fellowship and Faith for Adults – Join us Monday, January 15 at D’Agnese’s at
556 White Pond Drive, Akron. Our speaker will be Fr. Barry Gearing,
Pastor at St. Adalbert Parish. Our discussion will be “Finding
redemption in a Pornographic Culture: An overview of Theology of the
Body by St. John Paul II.” We will be begin at 7:00 pm with Appetizers, 7:30 pm
Speaker. Admission is $10.00 which includes appetizers – Cash bar. Evening is
sponsored by St. Sebastian Parish, Akron.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society is collecting New or gently used coats for those less fortunate
this winter. Please place the coats in the box provided in the vestibule of the church. Thank
you in advance for your generosity.

Mark your calendar – Experiencing God: Splendor in the ordinary – Transformation to


extraordinary. Join parishioners for a Lenten Parish Mission, March 6 and 7 at 7:00-8:30pm,
directed by Deacon Robin Adair with sacred music, scripture, prayer, reflection, and Benediction of
the Blessed Sacrament. All are encouraged to attend. Mission will be held in the church.

“The Kenmore Free Store” is a collaborative ministry of Park United Methodist Church and Immaculate
Conception of Mary Parish, Kenmore. The phenomenal success of this ministry has caused a backlog of
unpacking, evaluation, sorting and display or storage of donated items. We really need help! Groups are
especially welcome. The store is in the former ICM Parish School, 2128 16th Street, S.W., Akron. Call
Melissa Keegan to schedule volunteers 330-753-8429.

We are looking for Prayer Warriors……Someone to pray for our School and PSR students. All
you need to do is choose a set of cards with a child’s name on it, place your name (last names
only) on the cards. The Prayer Warrior keeps the St. Michael Card as a reminder to keep that
child in your prayers, the Guardian Angel card will be returned to the school…it is as simple as
that. For those interested, please call Chris Christoff at 330-825-3431 or email
cchristoff07@yahoo.com or stop in the rectory to pick up your prayer cards. Please consider
joining this ministry of prayer for our students, we would like each student to have their own warrior.

Tickets are on sale for the Annual St. Augustine Athletic Board Reverse Raffle being held in the SAC on
Saturday, February 10. Only 150 tickets will be sold, fun begins at 6:00pm. Don’t miss out on the
opportunity to support the athletes of St. Augustine while enjoying wonderful food and fellowship.
Ticket prices are $35.00 each, additional dinner tickets are $10.00. You can purchase your ticket through

The FEST Internship - Looking to do something extraordinary this summer? The FEST is
looking for marketing & communications, event planning, and logistics management interns
to join the team that puts together our annual Diocesan Family Festival. Interns will be a part
of a fast-paced team and will play a critical role in the marketing, planning and coordination
of annual event for 40,000+ people. Interns will provide support and have responsibilities including
public speaking, marketing, mailings, digital and social media, press releases, logistics, event planning,
and more. Interns must have strong people skills, work ethic, critical thinking, organizational skills, and
