1776: GENERAL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS & ACTORS

Thank you for your interest in Wildwood’s spring all-school production of 1776. We are very excited
about this production, and thank you for coming to auditions and for your preparation and interest.

REHEARSALS/PERFORMANCES: We will be rehearsing most days after school from 3:45-6 or 6:30, and
some later, Friday and weekend rehearsals as the performance date approaches. Actors only need to
attend the rehearsals that they are called for. Because of the “ensemble” nature of the show (many
people onstage at one time in many scenes), we will not be able to honor many conflicts. A detailed
rehearsal schedule will be handed out the first week of rehearsals.

PLEASE ADD THESE MANDATORY REHEARSALS TO YOUR CALENDARS:

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 24: 12:00-5:30pm (who is called will be in the rehearsal schedule)
THURSDAY, MARCH 1 (CONFERENCE DAY): 12-4pm (who is called will be in the rehearsal schedule)
FRIDAY, MARCH 2 (CONFERENCE DAY): Costume Fittings (Each cast member will be called for only an
hour. Who is called will be in the rehearsal schedule.)
SATURDAY, MARCH 3: 12-5pm
SUNDAY, MARCH 10: 12-6pm (mandatory tech rehearsal)
SUNDAY, MARCH 18: 12-4 Strike, Party afterwards TBA

PERFORMANCE WEEK: Mandatory dress rehearsals are Monday and Tuesday, March 12 and 13 until
7:30pm. Performances are Wednesday-Saturday, March 14-17 at 7pm, with additional morning
performances for students on Wednesday, March 14 and Friday, March 16.

CALLBACKS: A callback list will be posted Wednesday morning. If you are called back, you will be
expected to stay after school Wednesday from 3:45-6:30. If you are not on the list this does not, IN ANY
WAY, mean you will not be cast in the show. We only have callbacks for certain roles. If you are called
back, you will be expected to be familiar with all of the songs on the audition list.

CAST LIST & 1st DAY OF REHEARSAL: The cast list will be posted on Friday, January 12 at 2:00pm. If
you are cast, rehearsals will begin Tuesday, January 16 from 3:45-6pm with a read-through/sing-through
for everyone. You will receive a full rehearsal schedule at the first rehearsal.

AUDITIONING & CASTING: Our philosophy is to cast the best person for the role based on what they
demonstrate at auditions. We try to cast all who audition. A committee of many, consisting of the
director, choreographer, musical director, additional faculty, staff, and administrators does the casting.
It is a long, carefully thought-out process. Auditioning for a Wildwood production means exactly that:
you are auditioning for the production as a whole, not a particular role. It is expected that you will accept
any role you are cast in and will do it graciously and with a positive attitude. Actors may not quit the
production because they did not get the role they wanted. Performers and their parents should not
contact (via email, phone or in person) the directors or anyone on the casting committee the day of or
the long weekend after the cast list is posted (unless it’s to express happiness!). Please take time to have
some perspective on the process. If you or your parents feel that you must have feedback on your
audition, you may ask to talk to the director, Stephanie Darby, after we return from the weekend. Please
respect the decisions of the casting committee and trust our professional judgment. Please also respect
our time off with our own families during the weekend. Thank you.

Thank you for auditioning…do the best you can and HAVE FUN!!!!
