installation within the control room, substation, administration, canteen, gate house,
warehouse & workshop of the plant.
In cable sizing consideration shall be given both in normal services and short circuit
conditions. The maximum permissible voltage drops, the cable protection (fuses
circuit breakers and relays), the depth of laying, the soil thermal resistivity and
grouping factors shall be considered.
The cable shall be sized to withstand without damage the maximum short circuit
thermal stress for the full clearance time of the protective devices. The cable
derating factors to thermal limit and laying conditions shall be to the IEC and or
equivalent standards.
The current rating capacity of cables after being derated shall be as follows:
The transformer feeder cables shall have a current carrying capacity equal to the
transformer rated current in ONAF condition when applicable.
Each switchgear feeder cables shall have a current carrying capacity equal to the
rated current of connected.
Transformers in ONAF conditions when applicable.
The motor feeder cables shall be selected based on motor nameplate rating
multiplied by a factor of 1.25 taking.
0CLIENT: CONSULTANT:
Into account the cable derating factor as depth of installation soil thermal resistivity,
grouping factor, soil temperature etc.
Cables for other application not mentioned above shall have a current carrying
capacity equal to the maximum.
The maximum conductor size for multicore cables shall be 240mm2, and 400mm2
for single core cables.
MV cables for indoor use can be armoured type without lead sheath.
The minimum conductor size shall be 50 mm². Conductor type shall be circular
stranded, acc. to IEC 228.
For MV-cables suitable end seals for MV-cables delivered by PURCHASER shall
be designed to guarantee nominal insulation levels of cables.
LV power cable for lighting, small power and other branch circuits shall be 3 or 4 or
5 core copper conductor type, PVC-insulated, overall PVC-sheathed and rated at
0.6/1 kV. Power cables installed inside of each building shall be provided neither
steel armoured nor lead covered.
Control cable shall be multi-core copper conductor type, PVC-insulated, steel wire
armoured, lead covered (if required), overall PVC-sheathed and rated at 0.6/1 kV.
Cables installed indoors shall be provided neither steel armoured nor lead covered.
The minimum conductor size shall be 2.5 mm2. conductor type shall be circular
stranded acc. to IEC 228.
Core marking shall be made by white digits on black wires. Color of cable outer
sheath shall be black.
Except for control/signal cables with voltage levels of 48V and lower, PE-screen is
sufficient.
0CLIENT: CONSULTANT:
Outdoor call stations (installed aboveground) - solid copper wire 0.8 mm diameter,
PVC- or PE-insulated jelly field type, 2-wire-twisted, screened, steel wire armoured
and overall PVC-sheathed.
Indoor call stations and branch circuits outdoors – single- and multi-core solid
copper wire 0.6 mm diameter, PVC- or PE-insulated jelly field type, twisted pair,
screened and overall PVC-sheathed.
Main cable outdoors (installed aboveground) - stranded copper wire 1 mm², PVC-
insulated, twisted pair, screened, steel wire armoured and overall PVC-sheathed.
Cable indoors and branch circuits outdoors – same type as for main cable, but
neither non-armoured nor lead covered.
3.1 General
The cables and its accessories shall be subject to tests according to the relevant
IEC recommendation to detect any faults in material and during manufacturing.
Generally, all materials and equipment shall be subject of VENDOR’s permanent
quality control with all necessary inspections and tests.
All test results shall be recorded in a test reports containing sufficient information to
approve standards required, to confirm the stated ratings and to ensure compliance
with this specification.
0CLIENT: CONSULTANT:
3.2 Inspections
Samples shall consist of pieces of cables, random chosen with cable length as
stated in applicable codes and standards. If there is no information applicable,
procedure shall be considered as follows:
Procedure of routing test and type tests is according to IPS-217, BS 6480, IEC 55,
IEC 502, BS 6469, BS 923, BS 443.
