II. Project Title: E-Business Development Portal for DTI Assisted MSMEs of Mountain
Province
III. Introduction/Background:
Micro businesses engaged in various handicrafts and food processing involves at least
one hundred families, women’s organizations, village enterprises in Mountain Province.
Weaving, wine production, coffee, honey, jams and jellies, other processed food, antique
reproduction, and lately abaca handicrafts are potential growth industries in Mountain
Province. Local products have gained exposure in local and regional trade fairs but
market awareness have not been significant. Local producers had no way of providing
information on new product lines, price updates. The traditional way of sending product
samples through couriers was expensive. Market exposure was limited. Today, the
Internet provides an opportunity for local producers to engage new buyers and help
stimulate the local economy. The development of an electronic business portal provides
a low cost means to expand markets for local products.
