Assignment: Tissue Recognition /30

You will require access to the textbook (Chapter 11) to answer the questions in this
assignment.

Part A: Epithelial Tissue

1. Check which of the following best

describes the appearance of the
epithelium in the image? (1 mark)
Single layer
 Multiple layers

2. Provide a location and function of simple squamous epithelium? (2 marks)

Simple squamous epithelium tissue line things such as the heat, blood
vessels, and lymphatic vessels. Since simple squamous epithelium are
flattened and single layered, it helps with their function of diffusion,
osmosis, filtration and secretion.

3. What is the name and function of the simple epithelial tissue in

the bronchus? (1 mark)
The tissue that in found in the bronchus is called simple
columnar ciliated. These tissues have cilia which moves
foreign substances out of the bronchus.

4. Label the diagram from the textbook (p. 177) of the bronchus. (2 marks)

1. Cilia

2. Ciliated columnar cell

3. Basement membrane

4. Goblet cell
Part B: Connective Tissue

5. Identify and describe the tissue depicted in this picture. (1 mark)

This tissue is call loose adipose tissue. It is found wherever

there is areolar connective tissue.

6. What is the function of the tissue that you identified in number 5? (1 mark)

This tissue stores fat as triglycerides, can be used to produce energy,

insulates the body, and protects and cushions organs

7. Describe the function of dense regular connective tissue in the body and name one
location where it can be found. (2 marks)

Dense regular connective tissue provides very strong

attachment for connecting tendons and ligaments.
This tissue is found in the spleen as well as other
places in the body.

8. Differentiate between spongy and compact bone using the chart below. (chap 13) (4
marks)
