1. PURPOSE:

To provide necessary guidelines for safe Testing of Chlorides in Formation Water


- ASTM XX as such should be used for the reference all the time.

2. SCOPE:

This control procedure outlines equipment detailed summaries along with testing
guidelines for Testing of Formation Water. Also the hazards involved and, tools
required in performing this task safely.

3. RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES:

Plant Manager and Deputy Plant Manager shall responsible for:

 To ensure that concerned Lab Chemist/ Operation Engineer comply with


the procedures as described herein.

Operation Engineer shall be responsible for:

 To ensure that all the concerned Lab Chemist comply with the
procedures as described herein.

Lab Chemist shall be responsible for:

 To ensure that they have all the knowledge for Testing of Chlorides in

Formation Water - ASTM XX as described herein.

4. POTENTIAL HAZARDS:

 Eyes & skin irritation


 Inhalation
 Spill & leakage

5. GENERAL SAFETY:

5.1 Pre Job Safety Meeting:


To ensure safe Testing of Chlorides in Formation Water - ASTM XX, PJSM should
be held to identify any potential hazards that may occur during the charging
procedure.

5.2 Permit to Work Requirements:

No any work permit is required before starting the procedure.

5.3 Isolation Required:

No any isolation is required.

6. SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR PROCEDURE:

 Half Face Mask


 Hand gloves
 Lab Coat
 Mandatory PPEs
 Radio for communication with CCR
 Refer to MSDS sheet

7. PROCEDURE:

 Collect the Formation Water from sample point.


 Wear necessary PPEs.
 Take sample in a conical flask.
 Add 2-3 drops of Potassium Chromate indicator.
 Titrate the sample with AgNO3 till the color change.

 Refer ASTM - XX for this procedure.

8. PROCEDURE CLOSE-OUT:

 Note the reading.


 Contact CCR to let them know job is completed.

9. TRAINING & EVALUATION:

For effective implementation of this procedure:

 Plant Manager/ Deputy Plant Manager are responsible to arrange trainings on


the basis of training needs.

 Plant Manager/ Deputy Plant Manager will evaluate the overall effectiveness
of this program in Hala Gas Processing Plant on annual basis.
