SPECIFICATION ESP-P-6965
PROCESS CHROMATOGRAPHS
1.0 PURPOSE
This specification provides the minimum requirements for Process Analyzers and
Systems.
2.0 SCOPE
The Contractor shall provide gas chromatograph(s), sample probe(s), and all required
sample conditioning for stream(s).Analizer Contractor shall be responsible for
accuracy, adjustability, calibration, performance, range, repeatability, measurement,
resolution, and testing of the supplied system.
A53 Standard Specification for Pipe, Steel, Black and Hot-Dipped, Zinc-
Coated Welded and Seamless
A269 Standard Specification for Seamless and Welded Austenitic Stainless
Steel Tubing (Small Diameter) for General Service
4.6 Process chromatograph systems shall meet the requirements for range,
accuracy, repeatability, etc. specified (please see point 12.0 )
4.7 Chromatograph shall resolve peaks greater than 0.05% mol with full
baseline separation between components.
4.11 The voltage for all electric operated solenoid valves (where required)
shall be nominal 24 VCD.
4.12 "Column" life shall be a minimum of five years minimum during normal
operation.
5.1 Each system shall be completely piped and wired with all necessary
valves, regulators, sample probes, rotameters, etc., as required to make
a completely free-standing unit, also the Contractor will connect incoming
sample lines and utilities as required to put the unit into service.
5.3 The oven shall be protected against overheating due to instrument failure
or malfunction of any kind.
5.4 Detector output signal shall be shielded against common mode noise,
normal mode noise, in addition to RFI and EMI.
5.8 The Contractor shall provide a gas cylinder manifold with two-stages
pressure regulation, inlet and outlet pressure gauges, and low pressure
for each carrier and span gas.
5.9 The flow rate of the carrier gas shall be adjustable without shutting the
system down.
5.10 Each analyzer shall to be provided with local indication of the variables
being analyzed at the analyzer unit.
6.2 The ambient temperature at the site varies from -10°C to 50°C (24°F to
122°F).
6.4 Each analyzer will be allocated 2000 mm of wall space in the room.
7.2 The sample probe shall extend through the tap one third of the pipe
diameter and shall be designed to eliminate solids.
7.3 The sample draw system shall include all filters and devices required for
the sample conditioning. The design shall allow for replacement or
backflushing of clogged filters.
7.4 All sample system materials that contact the process fluid shall be
stainless steel (minimum ).
7.5 All automatic or manual switching valves shall be leakproof and bubble-
tight.
7.6 Flow limiting valves shall be used to restrict flow in the event of a sample
line break. The restrictor capacity shall be less than twice the normal
flow rate.
7.7 Sample transit time, from entry into the probe to entry into the analyzer
shall be less than 90 seconds, of which no more than 30 seconds shall
be required from entry into the probe to entry into the sample
conditioning system.
7.9 The Contractor shall provide all equipment necessary to introduce the
calibration sample into the system. Calibration samples shall be
introduced without disconnecting lines, changing settings or making other
adjustments. The calibration system shall be automatic.
7.10 A valved connection for laboratory samples shall be furnished at the exit
of the sample conditioning system as near to the analyzer as possible.
7.11 The sample transport system shall conform to the requirements That the
manufactured recomended for the system .
8.2 The Contractor shall review the sample system from the process sample
connection to the analyzer room to assure correct sampling and
satisfactory lag time.
8.3 Any sample line above 65°C (148°F) shall be insulated for personnel
protection.
10.0 ACCESSORIES
10.2 All interconnecting piping ¾-inch size and larger shall be ASTM A53,
Grade B, seamless, Schedule 80 pipe. Smaller connections shall be
ASTM A269, Type 304 seamless tubing, with 316 fittings.
10.3 Chromatographs shall be designed for operation in very hot and dry
environment. Exposed components shall be adequately protected
against corrosion. Internal mechanisms and components shall be
protected against entrance of dirt, dust, and water during shipment,
storage and operation. Seals, gaskets and diaphragms shall be
adequate for long-time storage at temperatures up to 93 degrees
Celsius. Process contact surfaces shall be protected with permanent
corrosion prevention methods.
10.6 All terminal blocks shall be clearly identified and all individual terminals
shall be clearly marked.
10.7 Pipe threads shall be tapered and shall conform to ASME B1.20.1.
11.2 If, upon arrival of the PGPB Inspector, the tests have not been
performed, the Contractor shall be liable for back-charges for time and
expense of the PGPB Inspector's visit.
11.3 The Contractor shall allocate adequate time, space, facilities, and
assistance to permit inspection and testing to the satisfaction of PGPB
Inspector. The Contractor shall provide technicians and materials, as
required, to make measurements and connections the Inspector deems
necessary to assure that all functions and accuracies are according to
14-0 DOCUMENTATION
14.1 Each analyzer system shall be furnished with a separate Operation and
Maintenance Manual indexed by instrument tag number. Documentation
shall include the following as a minimum:
