LAB WORK :
TOPIC : MS PROJECT

OBJECTIVES:
The end of session, the student should be :
(i) Know the MS Project Environment
(ii) Create a new project plan
(iii) Create a task list
PROCEDURES:
1.1 Starting Project and create New Project Plan

• On the window taskbar, click Start > All Programs > click Microsoft Office Project 2003
• On file menu, click New. In New Project task pane, click Blank Project.

• On Project menu, click Project Information


• In Start Date box, type or select 05/05/09. Click OK to close the dialog box.
• Save the file as Amali MSProject

1.2 Setting Nonworking Days


• On Tools menu click Change Working Time
• Try to change working days for Kelantan from Sunday to Thursday.
• Select Friday and Saturday as Non-working day
• Save as Calendar 1

1.3 Creating a Task List


• Enter the task name ‘ Pre-implementation Study’ into the Task Name column.

• Enter the following task name below:


Develop framework
Making order
Simulation
Installing hardware
Programming and Setting
Testing
Documentation
Training

• Press ENTER after each task name.

1.4 Estimating Duration


• Click below the Duration column heading for task 2 , Develop framework , type 5d and press ENTER
• Enter the following duration for the remaining tasks.

6 Programming and Setting ( ENTER to skip )

1.5 Entering a Milestone


Milestone is required to track an important event for your project, such as when Pre-implementation study of
the project will end.
• On the Insert menu, click New Task. A new row will insert. Type ‘Pre-implementation Study
Complete’.
• Enter ‘0d’ for duration of this task.
1.6 Organizing Tasks into Phases
To create two summary tasks by indenting tasks.
• Select the names tasks 2 through 6, on Project menu, point to Outline and then click Indent.
• Repeat Outline and Indent for tasks 8 through 10.

1.7 Linking Tasks


To create links between several tasks, thereby creating finish-to-start relationships.
• Select the names of tasks 2 through 6, on the Edit menu, click Link Tasks.
• Repeat Link Tasks for tasks 8 through 10.

• To link the two summary tasks, select the name task 1 and, while holding down the CTRL key, select
task 7, click Link Tasks from Edit menu.
