Follow the directions for each section. Look at all of the websites and read the information. It will help you with other projects. Graphic Organizer This assignment will help you develop your analyzing skills. You will read a couple of articles and watch a video to give some background and get an idea of Diego Rivera’s work before interpreting one of two murals. You will work in groups of 2-3 and create a graphic organizer to map out your interpretations. Big Paper There will be no talking during this activity. It is done in complete silence. I will have a commentary artwork displayed. There will be a large sheet of paper and markers for each group. Then as everyone looks at the artwork they will write comments and questions. If someone writes a question someone else in the group should answer it. After a given amount of time everyone will get up and go around the room and look at the other groups sheets and write comments and questions. Then the groups return to their original sheet and read the additional comments. At the very end everyone can talk and discuss. Analysis Toward the end of the unit each student will choose a commentary artwork that we have not already covered in class and do some research on the artist and the background events that led to the work. Then do 2-3 minute presentation of the history and their analysis of the artwork. Poster Project Each student will create a commentary poster. They will choose the subject they want to illustrate. They will need to incorporate artist elements in an original work of art that conveys a social issue in a way that makes the sentiment clear to the viewer.
