twice in the past six months at the request of the MSC
Manager Active Ageing and Community Access. At
these meetings, organisations were made aware of the
MSC service review and an invitation was extended to
respond as part of the four-week community consultation
process. No feedback was received from BDHC. Shawn
is new to the role and so time was spent at the meetings
orientating ourselves and discussing ways to further
develop partnerships that help to better integrate services
for our community.
“The report talks to Council’s experience of the NDIS roll
out and the impact on clients e.g. primary aged school
children who require a group program for respite and
social support and could no longer get a service under
NDIS. The NDIS rolled out in Moorabool on 1 January,
2017 and the market is young and changing weekly. The
Service Review report was written between April 2017
to September 2017. It is great that BDH&C are providing
NDIS services to those in need especially in the West.
At the time of writing the Service Review, this was not
known.
“We always welcome the opportunity to meet with staff
from BDHC to discuss services and programs for the
Moorabool community, and look forward to developing
positive partnerships with them.”

Little Athletics returns

The first Bacchus Marsh Centre meet for 2018 was held on
Saturday at Masons Lane Reserve. The overnight rain had
cleared, and although a little windy, another successful meet
was held with two new Centre records set. Nelson Banigo
(Eagles) ran a well controlled 400 metres, finishing strongly
and setting a new Under 9 record of 1:10.15 minutes, taking
over three seconds off the previous record. Keely Rich
(Dolphins) broke the Girls Under 16 Javelin record with a
throw of 24.08 metres. Temi Olaitan was this week’s PB Star
of the Week recording 4 PBs for the meet.
This Saturday BMLAC athletes will be participating in an
Inter Centre Round at Werribee. Athletes from Brimbank,
Corio, Melton City and Werribee will all compete against
each other in a fun and friendly environment. The meet
will be held at the Victoria University Wyndham Sporting
Complex, Hoppers Lane, Werribee commencing at 4pm.
Athletes are reminded to register via the ResultsHQ family
portal by Friday 12 noon.

Elaine resident Molly Dunne (front row fourth from right) has graduated from Tennis Victoria’s future leaders program.
Molly was required to conduct 40-hours of work at Elaine Tennis Club, where she is both a player and committee
member. A graduation was held on Thursday January 11 at the Kooyong Tennis Club. Congratulations Molly.

MOTORING MOORABOOL
Where can a child ride a dirt bike, that is safe & legal?
By Johnny Orchard

For as long as I’ve been riding dirtbikes (44 years) it’s been difficult to
find safe and legal areas to ride. Also, somewhere where I wouldn’t annoy
anyone with the noise of the bike; that means at least two kilometres is
needed; one of my past motorcycle clubs had their track closed down
because a resident over a mile away (yes that long ago) could hear the
bikes. Many municipal councils even prohibit people from riding on their
own property these days!
Safety is a major concern; especially for children, bruises and broken
bones can be part of riding dirtbikes, so correct training and organized
riding areas are of major importance. So what is the answer? I discovered
recently that there is a family orientated dirtbike riding track in Meredith,
run by the non-profit Meredith and District Motorcycle Club (MADMCC),
which is controlled by a Committee of volunteer adult riders and parents
of junior riders. Apparently, the club has been running for a number of
years; I’ve only just learned of it, I guess Facebook is bringing previously
unheard of places to the fore.
MADMCC has two tracks, situated right in the centre of town on
council land; right next to the Golf Course (must be very patient and
understanding golfers); one track for the very junior rider, riding very
small bikes (Yamaha PW50 type machines) and the main track for more
experienced juniors and seniors. In the interests of safety, the main track
Ash great day for family bonding. Junior Pee Wee Track.
ride sessions are split into four groups, juniors are split into two groups;
one for those that like to ride around at gentle pace and another for the
very experienced racing type junior. The seniors have two groups also,
just as the juniors; slower and faster. To cover the safety aspect, the club
pays for a St Johns medical team to be on hand at every ride event; at the
couple of ride days that I attended, they had nothing to do (that’s a good
thing).
The club’s Committee members are elected into their positions by club
members at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), on ride days, parents of
junior riders and senior riders, all do their bit to assist. The 2017 (2018 not
confirmed as yet) club memberships costs are: Family $90, Senior: $70 and
junior: $60. The fee for each ride day is $20. The club is always looking for
sponsors to help financially, their main current sponsor is Road & River
Motorcycles, and they are situated in Riversdale Rd in Newtown.w
The club rides on the third Sunday of each month; but January’s event is
usually cancelled due to the summer heat and club officials on Christmas
and school holidays. The ride day normally gets underway around 9am
with a brief machine safety inspection prior to riding at 10am. You can
find more info on the club via their Facebook page under the name
MADMCC – Meredith & District Motorcycle Club, or just roll-up on the
third Sunday of each month and check it out.
