Chapter 1
Introduction

Food stalls in University of Mindanao have been experiencing hard time in

counting their profits and products manually. The possibilities in losing the manual
records and miscounting the products are in the line. This is another difficult task to
handle using manual system especially if there are lots of transactions that needs to be
summarized. University of Mindanao’s food stalls uses the manual type of cashiering
system for so long. In this connection, the researchers proposed the computer-based
system to help stalls in UM improve its cashiering system and to become more efficient
to the vendors.

Project Context
We researchers plans to develop a cashiering system and database for the
inventory and the target for this research is the Ricrose Fresh fruits and powdered
shakes located in the canteen in UM. The vendors in the stall are having a hard time
due to the manual method espescially in handling the inventory. So this research will
help the vendors to have an easy way of managing the store as well as the system by
developing and improving their cashiering system and database for inventory.

Purpose and Description

This project will help the vendors on the canteen in UM to fasten their works in
managing the store as well the inventory. Due to their manual method of managing the
cashiering system in the stall so we researchers decided to think for a possible solution
for their problem. So we decided to make cashiering system and inventory for them to
do their job with ease.

Objective
The objective of this project is to help stalls in UM improve its cashiering system
and be more user friendly towards customers and vendors. And also, for them to use
computer based system instead of the manual type of Cashiering System.

Scope and limitation

This system is a cashiering and inventory system for Ricrose Fresh fruits and
powdered shakes which is the primary benefactor of the study. The study will focus on
creating cashiering and inventory system that will help the food stall’s to be fast reliable,
fast, productive and accurate. The system will have an inventory of items which
manages of the certain products and updates automatically if the products have been
increased or decreased. The system are also capable of computing the profit and can
update the upcoming or replace the product.
The proposed study will give more accuracy and effectiveness as well as time
efficiency when in terms of computing profit and in terms of inventory.
The limitations of the system are it can’t produce receipt and it has no bar code
capabilities. The system cannot accept credit or debit transactions.

Review Related Literature/System
The goals of the Capstone of Aviles, Diputado, Ali & Derama (2017), are “ To
help the company increase their transaction productivity, to help the company increase
the creation of sales and inventory. This project will help the company to speed up their
transaction by using POS system that is user friendly and will automatically generate
sales and inventory reports. The inventory system will similarly avoid using logbooks or
other manual process.”(Aviles et al.,2017)
Their goals and objective are almost the same; our objective is to help food stall’s
to eradicate the manual type of registering the products. Our program stores data as the
same theirs. It also helps the vendors to easily do their work.

The goals of the Capstone of, the goal of the proponent is to help the company
increase their transaction productivity, to help the company increase the creation of
sales and inventory. This project will help the company to speed up their transactions by
using POS system that is user friendly and will automatically generate sales and
inventory reports. It also includes the computerize inventory system of their records.
The inventory system will similarly avoid using logbooks, or other manual process.
It is similar to our work because our program will also enable the users speed up
their works instead of wasting their valuable time in doing it manually. That’s why it is
user-friendly and will be a great help for the food stalls in UM.

The goals of the Capstone of Bartiana, Cabrera, Morales, Nacario & Opalla
(2012), “ ...offers a search engines where the user can search not only the name and
data of the specific product but also the total sales report and inventory report of daily,
weekly, monthly and even yearly basis. In this way, it would be faster for them to
retrieve the desired data to come up.” (Bartiana et al.,2017)

Their goals and objectives are pretty much the same as ours. Our program also
provides search engines that helps the user to see and even retrieve the data of a
specific product. With this, the work of the user would be hastened.
