“Happy”
(From “Despicable Me 2”) By Pharrell Williams

It might seem crazy what I'm about to say

Sunshine she's here, you can take away
I'm a hot air balloon, I could go to space
With the air, like I don't care baby by the way

Because I'm happy

Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you feel like that's what you wanna do

Here come bad news talking this and that

Yeah, give me all you got, don't hold back
Yeah, well I should probably warn you I'll be just fine
Yeah, no offense to you don't waste your time
Here's why

Because I'm happy

Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you feel like that's what you wanna do

Happy, bring me down

Can't nothing, bring me down
Love is too happy to bring me down
Can't nothing, bring me down
I said bring me down
Can't nothing, bring me down
Love is too happy to bring me down
Can't nothing, bring me down
I said

Because I'm happy

Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you

This song could be used in the morning time when the students first get to school. I believe it will start
the day on a positive note. It is upbeat which can wake the students up and get them excited and
motivated for the day.

This song can be used when students have been sitting or listening to a lesson for a long period of time.
Students might need to get up and move around the classroom. To wake their bodies and their minds up.
By doing physical activity students can stimulate their brain and even just get the wiggles out!

“Colors”
To The Tune Of: Farmer in the Dell
By: Jennifer Hodge
Oh, Kristin is wearing green,
Oh, Kristin is wearing green,
High, Ho the derry oh, Kristin is wearing green. {Continue using other student’s names and colors.}

This song can be used as a review of the colors. It also incorporates each student and acknowledges each
student to make them feel special, while reviewing the colors that they see every day.

“Days Of The Week”

To The Tune Of: Addams Family Theme Song
By: Jennifer Hodge
Days of the week (click tongue twice),
days of the week (click tongue twice),
days of the week, days of the week, days of the week (click tongue twice).
There’s Sunday and there’s Monday,
there’s Tuesday and there’s Wednesday,
there’s Thursday and there’s Friday and then there’s Saturday.
Days of the week (click tongue twice),
days of the week (click tongue twice),
days of the week, days of the week, days of the week (click tongue twice).
This activity can be used with Kindergarten and maybe first grade to teach the days of the week. The
repetition in the correct order will help students remember the order of each day. The song also involves
making noises so this will incorporate more and take more thinking than just singing.

“Alive, Awake, Alert, Enthusiastic”
By Unknown Artist
Sung to the tune "If You're Happy and You Know It"

Lyrics:
I'm alive, awake, alert, enthusiastic,
I'm alive, awake, alert, enthusiastic,
I'm alive, awake, alert,
I'm alert, awake, alive,
I'm alive, awake, alert, enthusiastic.

Motions:
Alive: touch ankles
Awake: touch hips
Alert: touch shoulders
Enthusiastic: arms up in the air
Nicole Denny MAT300 3/29/16

https://originsonline.org/educator-help/alive-awake-alert-enthusiastic
This song is great to use in the morning when kids might still be sleepy or unenthusiastic to be at school.
This song should speed up each time it is sang and it forces children to get up out of their seats and move
around, to sing, and to dance. This should get students awake and enthusiastic or sure!
“Water Cycle”
By Jack Hartmann, M.A.
(Chorus)
The water cycle – it goes around and round
The water cycle – keeps going up and down
The water cycle – it goes around and round,
It goes around and round and round

Evaporation, condensation, precipitation

Keeps going round and round
Evaporation, condensation, precipitation
Keeps going round and round, and round

Evaporation – Happens first

The sun heats surface waters of the earth
The water’s changed to a gas right there
Gets lighter and rises into the air

Condensation – Is when the gas

Gets cooled in the upper atmosphere
Turns liquid or solid, forming clouds
And, yo, it might start falling down

Precipitation – Is when the clouds

Get liquids or solids all around
The particles get heavy and grow
Then fall as rain, hail, sleet or snow

Repeat Chorus
The water cycle it keeps going round and round and round

http://www.songsforteaching.com/earthsciencegeology/watercyclejackhartmann.htm

This song can be used in the classroom when the students are learning about the water cycle. It would be
challenging for students to learn to sing, but it would be a great way to introduce a lesson on the water
cycle or to be played in the background of the lesson.

“Three States of Matter”

By Jennifer Fixman
Three states of matter are surrounding me,
As solid, liquid, and gas, you see,
Nicole Denny MAT300 3/29/16

And water can be all three (ice, water, air!)

Water can be all three.

A solid is something that you can touch.

It may bounce or scream but it won’t change much.
A liquid will run right past your hand,
But swish it around in a can.

Three states of matter are surrounding me,

As solid, liquid, and gas, you see,
And water can be all three (ice, water, air!)
Water can be all three.

A gas won’t swish or drop or scream,

But gases surround everything.
Sometimes you forget a gas is there
Until you feel the wind blowing through your hair.

Three states of matter are surrounding me,

As solid, liquid, and gas, you see,
And water can be all three (ice, water, air!)
Water can be all three.

Liquid to gas: Evaporation.

Gas to liquid: Condensation.
Watch it freeze from liquid to solid!
Watch it melt from solid to liquid!
Sublimation skips a state;
From gas to solid without a wait.

Three states of matter are surrounding me,

As solid, liquid, and gas, you see,
And water can be all three (ice, water, air!)
Water can be all three.
http://www.songsforteaching.com/jennyfixmanedutunes/3statesofmatter.htm
This lesson could be used in a classroom when learning the states of matter. Students could get up and
physically show how each state of matter moves. For example a gas would move very fast and a solid
would move very slow. By using music and movements in a lesson it will keep students more engaged
and it will be a nice break from just reading or writing about the subject.

“Raise Your Hand Song”

By J. W. Snyder

(Spoken)
Now in the classroom there’s something you gotta do.
So here’s a song written just for you.
Nicole Denny MAT300 3/29/16

The rule of the classroom is raise your hand!

Raise your hand! Raise your hand!
So we can work together, raise your hand!
Raise your hand! Raise your hand!

If you have a belly ache way down inside,

Hold that hand up way up in the sky!

And if you see a monster comin’ down the hall,

Runaway, runaway, one and all!

If you have a question, raise your hand!

Raise your hand! Raise your hand!
And if you know the answer, raise your hand!
Raise your hand! Raise your hand!

If you have to go and can’t hold it any more,

Hold that hand up and let them know what it’s for.
And if you see a monster still walkin’ ‘round the hall, Runaway!

Instrumental (Dance time!)

If you have a belly ache way down inside,

Hold that hand up way up in the sky.
Here comes that Monster again walkin’ down the hall!
Runaway, runaway, one and all!

If you have a question, raise your hand!

Raise your hand! Raise your hand!

And if you know the answer, raise your hand!

Raise your hand! Raise your hand!

The rule of the classroom is raise your hand!

Raise your hand! Raise your hand!

And if you want a snack now, raise your hand!

Raise your hand! Raise your hand!

And if you want to go outside, raise your hand!

Raise your hand! Raise your hand!

http://www.songsforteaching.com/classroommanagementdiscipline/raiseyourhandsong.htm
This song is a good one to use after a lesson on classroom rules. The song can be put with movements and
has a rock beat so students can dance to it too. It will easily wrap up a lesson about raising your hand in
the classroom and allow students to have some fun too.
“Never Be Afraid to Ask Questions”
Ben and Elizabeth Stiefel
Nicole Denny MAT300 3/29/16

Chorus:
Never be afraid to ask questions
Never be afraid - to ask "why"
Never be afraid to ask questions
'Cause that's the only way - to get wise

When the teacher says something that you don't understand

That's the time to ask a question by raising your hand
Don't be afraid to speak up - say what's on your mind
Ask a question and - free your mind

Chorus:
Never be afraid to ask questions
Never be afraid - to ask "why"
Never be afraid to ask questions
'Cause that's the only way - to get wise

There's an easy way for you to learn and to grow

Ask a question to find out the things you don't know
Like, "Where does the sun go every night?
Does it disappear, no, that can't be right."

Chorus:
Never be afraid to ask questions
Never be afraid - to ask "why"
Never be afraid to ask questions
'Cause that's the only way - to get wise

No one ever learned by sitting quietly keeping their questions inside

Never be afraid to ask your teachers - let them be your guide
Someone in your class may not understand and need an answer, too
You can be the hero of the day if you ask a question or two

Chorus:
Never be afraid to ask questions
Never be afraid - to ask "why"
Never be afraid to ask questions
'Cause that's the only way - to get wise

http://songsforteaching.com/classroommanagementdiscipline/askquestions.htm

This song can be used while students are working. That way if any students feel frustrated or
embarrassed about asking questions they will always know it is okay to ask questions and that it will
help them learn.

“Time To Tidy Up”

By Dave Moran
Nicole Denny MAT300 3/29/16

Time to tidy up, tidy up, tidy up,

Time to tidy up and put your things away.

Time to pick up toys, pick up toys, pick up toys,

Time to pick up toys and put them in their place.

Time to close your book, close your book, close your book,
Time to close your book and put it on the shelf.

Time to look around, look around, look around,

Time to look around does the room look clean?

Make the room look nice and neat, nice and neat, nice and neat,
Make the room look nice and neat thank you very much.

When you’ve finished play.

Put your things away.

Keep the room neat.

Nothing under your feet.

Good to find a place.

To keep things safe.

Thank you very much.

It’s time to tidy up, tidy up, tidy up,

Time to tidy up and put your things away.

Thank you very much, thank you very much,

Time to tidy up!

http://mrdavemoran.com/time-to-tidy-up.php

This song can be used at the end of the day to remind your students to pick up all of their things and
leave the room clean when they leave.

“Secret Life of Daydreams”
By Dario Marianelli
This song can be used when students get wound up, whether it is right before Christmas break or just a
hyperactive day, this song will calm students down and help a teacher regain some of the focus in the
classroom. This could also be used for background music while children should be working quietly.
Nicole Denny MAT300 3/29/16

“Main Title”
(Thirtysomething theme song)
By Stewart Levine
This song can be used to time transitions such as passing out papers or lining up the class. Students see
this down time as an opportunity to talk and goof off to some extent. By timing the transitions with music
you can keep your classroom on schedule and your transitions brief.

“The Pink Panther Theme”

By Henry Mancini
This song can be used before students go out into the hall and as they are lining up. You can tell the
students they need to be as quiet as spies when they go down the hall, as if no one knew they were there.
This music should help them get into character.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OPc7MRm4Y8
“Bagatelle”
By Beethoven
This song can be used in the background while students work. It is a familiar piece and is often heard.
This music can be used to drown out any distractions but because it has n words it will not be a distraction
for the students.

“Bring Him Home”

(from Les Misérables)
By ThePianoGuys

This upbeat song can be used in the classroom after recess. It is upbeat so it will keep your
students in a good mood but it isn’t very fast pace of loud to make your students energetic. It will
help calm your students down while keeping an upbeat feel.
