Beberapa hal yang menyebabkan terjadinya TE antara lain: Nutrisi: penurunan berat
badan pada individu yang melakukan diet ketat, malnutrisi kalori protein, defisiensi zat besi,
zinc, biotin. Hormonal: hipo atau hipertiroidisme, hormon estrogen dan progesteron paska
melahirkan yang patomekanismenya adalah tipe delayed anagen release di mana pada masa
gestasi, tingginya hormon estrogen mengakibatkan terjadinya pemanjangan fase anagen dan
persentase rambut anagen mencapai 95% pada trimester ketiga. Setelah partus, kadar hormon
tersebut turun mendadak sehingga mengakibatkan folikel rambut memasuki fase telogen
secara cepat dan dalam jumlah besar sampai mencapai 50% dan rontok. Keadaan ini yang
disebut sebagai TE gravidarum (TE postpartum).4,9,16 Stres fisik: penyakit sistemik akut
maupun kronik (keganasan terutama pada sistem limfoproliferatif, kolitis ulseratif, systemic
lupus erythematosus, tuberkulosis, sifilis stadium II, penyakit hepar, penyakit ginjal stadium
terminal, amiloidosis sistemik dan infeksi HIV), operasi besar, demam tinggi (terjadi
peningkatan kebutuhan metabolik berlebihan yang mengganggu kemampuan sel matriks
folikel untuk berproliferasi serta peran pirogen endogen yang dilepaskan seperti IL-1, INFa,
INFg dapat secara langsung menghambat proliferasi sel matriks folikel).2,4,13,14
Penyakit kulit lokal pada kulit kepala Penyakit kulit lokal pada kulit kepala yaitu
dermatitis kontak alergik, dermatitis seboroik, eritroderma. Stres psikis: kecemasan, depresi.
Obatobatan: obat anti koagulan, obat anti tiroid, obat psikofarmakologik, kontrasepsi oral,
antihipertensi, anti kolesterol dll.10 Patomekanisme yang terjadi adalah tipe immediate anagen
release. Prognosisnya baik karena pertumbuhan rambut kembali normal setelah obat
dihentikan.1,4
