Azithromycin

Classifications: antiinfective; macrolide antibiotic

Mechanism of action:inhibits cell-wall synthesis,promotingosmotic instability;usually


bactericidal

Dosage:

Indications:- Injectable form is used for treatment of serious infections of the lower
respiratorytracts

Side Effects:-Diarrhea, nausea,vomiting, rash, pain,temperature elevation,tissue


sloughing at IMinjection site.

Adverse Effects

CNS: dizziness, headhache, vertigo, fatigue

GI: diarrhea, abdominal pain, nause, dyspnea, melena, pseudomembrane colitis

Other: superinfections, angioedema, rash, photosensitivity

Nursing Interventions:
 Check the Doctor’s order

 Verify patient’s identity

 Assess hypersensitivity

 Assess orientation, GI output, bowel sounds, liver evaluation

 Montior blood studies

 Administer using 10 rights

 Adminitser on empty stomach 1 hour before meals or 2-3 hours after meal

 Let patient take the full course prescribed

 Do not administer wiht antacids

 Let patient report sever diarrhea, rash or itching.

 Document and record

 Direct sunlight (UV) exposure should be minimized during therapy with drug.

 Take aluminum or magnesium antacids 2 h before or after drug.
