CHAPTERS 10: Foreshadowing – Father Christmas’s Presents Ms. Brown Grade 6

Foreshadowing through Father Christmas

FORESHADOWING:
“Tools, not Toys”
LITERARY DEVICE

DIRECTIONS: In Chapter 10, “The Spell Begins to Break,” the children and
Mr. & Mrs. Beaver receive presents from Father Christmas. On the circle
templates in the sack below, identify the characters and their gifts. To
predict the importance of these presents, we will examine how each of the
children’s gifts is an example of the literary device, “foreshadowing.”
Literary devices are used by authors to add more meaning to their text.
Since we can infer that the children will need these items eventually, these
presents give us clues about what will happen in the plot.
