JOB DESCRIPTION

SUPPORT WORKER
TIMATA HOU

1. Primary Role of Timata Hou staff

Timata Hou’s mission is to provide a community based therapeutic support service


that works with individuals who have an intellectual disability and high and complex
behavioural needs to develop skills to participate in their communities.

The primary role of all staff is to contribute to the achievement of Timata Hou’s
mission.

2. Main Functions of this Position

 Participating as a team member to the planning and delivery of effective support

 Maintaining close liaison and involvement with families/whanau and advocates

 Providing Key Work to assigned clients

 Providing learning opportunities for clients

 Providing culturally appropriate support

 Maintaining a high standard of living and working environments with clients by


ensuring good physical upkeep, maintenance and appearance of the assigned
home, building or vehicle

 Carrying out tasks as prescribed in the Client Rehabilitation Pathway, policies


and procedures

 Participating in training programmes

 Other duties in line with the Timata Hou business plan.

3. Relationships

Responsible to:
 Timata Hou Team Leader

Functional relationships:

 People with an intellectual disability and high and complex behavioural


needs who receive services from Timata Hou
 Parents, families/ whanau and advocates of Timata Hou clients
 Timata Hou Clinical Project Manager
 Timata Hou Team Leaders
 Timata Hou Regional Manager
 Kindred organizations

4. Key Objectives and Expected Results

4.1 Key Objective

Participate as a member of a team to the planning and delivery of effective


support to clients.

Expected Results

 Contributes as a member of a team


 Attends planning and review meetings
 Implements plans as agreed by the team
 Assumes particular responsibilities for client’s assigned to them as Key
Worker.

4.2 Key Objective

Maintains close liaison and involvement with families/ whanau and


advocates

Expected Results

 Families/ whanau and advocates are kept informed and supported as


appropriate

4.3 Key Objective

Provide Key Work for assigned clients

Expected Results

 Client’s are supported to make informed choices and assisted to identify
their goals
 Learning needs are identified
 Clients have a current Individual Plan
 Input is sort from relevant family/whanau and other services, into the
development of Individual Plan

4.4 Key Objective

Provide learning opportunities for clients

Expected Results

 The client has the opportunity to learn skills and enjoy new experiences

4.5 Key Objective

Provide culturally appropriate support

Expected Results

 Whanau/family are able to provide support to their whanau/family


member
 Individual Plans will reflect the importance of the client’s cultural values
to them.

4.6 Key Objective

Maintain a high standard of living and working environments with clients by


ensuring good physical upkeep, maintenance and appearance of the
assigned home, building or vehicle

Expected Results

 All accounts and records are maintained


 Timata Hou management are notified of any repairs or maintenance
required, especially any potential hazards
 Homes, buildings and vehicles are maintained to a high standard

4.7 Key Objective

Carry out tasks as identified through the Client Rehabilitation Pathway,


policies and procedures.

Expected Results

 Policies and procedures are followed


 Client Rehabilitation Pathway requirements are met, particularly the
development and maintenance of Individual Plans.

Participates in training programmes

Expected Result

 Attends and participates in training programmes


 Meets regularly with Team Leader for formal support

4.9 Key Objective

Other duties in line with the Timata Hou business plan.

Expected Results

 All duties assigned are completed on time and to the standard specified.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
SUPPORT WORKER
TIMATA HOU

1. Values and Philosophy

An appreciation and clear commitment to the value of the needs of people


with an intellectual disability and their families/ whanau is essential.

2. Experience and Knowledge

 Previous experience of working with people with an intellectual disability


and high and complex behavioural needs is desirable
 Current First Aid Certificate

3. Personal Qualities

Specific qualities sought are:

 The ability and confidence to work within a team


 A sense of humour
 Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
 The ability to develop the self-esteem of clients
 A commitment to a client-centred approach to planning and delivery
 The ability to develop relationships with clients
 An understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and commitment to meeting
the cultural needs of Maori
 Tact and diplomacy when working with a wide range of people and
groups
