Topic The benefits of art on mental health

Driving Question How will having an art workshop during lunch at Poly benefit the students? 
 

Description of Practicum A teaching or leadership experience by creating and organizing an activity 

during school (lunchtime art workshop).
 

 
What information did you learn through your research that you will apply to the practicum? Provide 
specific details.
Information that I learned throughout my research that I will apply to the practicum is how art helps to open up
a state of mind that the traditional talks with a therapist can’t. Also some patients that have suffered from an
illness have put out that art really helped them in such a way that a man, Adamson had opened up a studio in
order for people to test out this method that helps benefit many people by easing into a state of calm state of
mind. The way Adamson had done this was mainly for those children that had been neglected by family and
get to speak out with their art.

 
 
 
Learning Goals/Outcomes: What will you understand and/or be able to do as a result of your 
practicum? 
What I would be able to do as a result of my practicum is try and form an art workshop during lunch 
and have students have fun creating a piece of art. My goal is that the art workshop ends up working 
out successfully and the students have fun and feel light and calm while doing it. What I will 
understand as a result of the practicum is that there will be people who will question that art is also 
used as a sort of therapy and can help calm and open up your mind with a light mood to it.

Learning Stretch: How will this project be a new and meaningful challenge for you? 
This project will be a new and meaningful challenge because I am not the greatest artist but having 
had taken an art class and am now in one I can personally say that it really does help ease you and just 
admire the piece you’re creating and how far you can go with it. The challenge with this project will be 
that it will take time to get a hold of the supplies needed and having people show up, but besides that 
having to go and tell people about it and actually be social and outgoing which will also help to get 
over how shy I am with talking with new people and big groups in general. This will be able to help get 
me a step closer to prepare me for the day I get to share my project experience.

I will display my practicum in my digital portfolio by taking pictures and videos throughout the workshop that
