35 MADE TO ORDER
Architectural Masonry has a natural aesthetic
appeal and offers a rich variety of visual
effects through choice of surface texture,
colour and pattern. Plasmor Architectural
Masonry can be specified in five different
ranges of standard size blocks supported
by an extensive range of all the specials
you would expect to see plus the facility
to create shapes which are the hallmark
of professional detailing.

A R C H I T E C T U R A L M A S O N RY
All Plasmor Architectural Masonry is made
to individual order from naturally occurring
aggregates on a special purpose built
American block manufacturing plant which
helps us produce the high quality, high
strength concrete facing blocks you would
expect from such a well known brand name.

One of the major features of Plasmor Masonry

is that it provides a walling product that is
efflorescence free. This is achieved by our
unique autoclave curing process. Depending
on the finish required masonry is shot blasted
or split with special shapes made on a parallel
specials line which also includes cutting and
bonding - a highly specialised skill.

Your entire order progresses though the plant

as a batch to ensure absolute colour consistency
and uniformity. All Masonry manufacturing
takes place on one site - at Knottingley in
West Yorkshire and can be delivered nationwide
on Plasmor’s own fleet of crane offload delivery
vehicles. Plasmor’s proven project management
system controls your order and provides close
supervision at every stage from design,
production planning, production, delivery to site
and on-site advice.

Plasmor Architectural Masonry is the flagship range

of Plasmor Ltd - a family owned manufacturer
of concrete products - part of the Plasmor Group
of Companies.

Many of the product ranges produced by the Company

are complementary to Architectural Masonry and are
worthy of consideration in your project specification.
These products include: Ultra Lightweight and
Lightweight Aggregate Blocks, Paint Grade Blocks,
Dense Concrete Blocks, Foundation Blocks,
Rectangular Concrete Block Paving and Concrete
Cobble Setts. These products are manufactured at
plants in West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, County
Durham, Cheshire and Nottinghamshire. Customers
in London and the South East receive product deliveries
via distribution centres at Bow and Biggleswade supplied
by rail on dedicated daily block trains from Yorkshire.

As the UK’s largest independent block manufacturer,
Plasmor can offer you a full range of concrete products
with the added benefit of a pre-contract and post
contract support service.

EFFLORESCENCE FREE MASONRY
The possibility of efflorescence, the naturally occurring
phenomena which often results in the staining and
discolouration of concrete products is a concern which
frequently has specifiers of facing blockwork seeking
reassurance.

In the development of the Plasmor Architectural

Masonry ranges much attention has been given to
ensure that wherever the product is specified the
masonry elevation will remain efflorescence free.
Be assured that Plasmor’s unique ingredient mix
and high pressure autoclave curing procedure results
in Architectural Masonry which can rightly claim
to be EFFLORESCENCE FREE

In response to demand for masonry units which achieve a stack bonded
effect, Plasmor has introduced the Vertiblock. The vertical ribbed feature
provides a visually effective way to create a vertical stack bond effect which
simulates a mortar joint and gives an attractive
design effect to panels, columns and expanses
of wall. Vertiblock is available in all textured and
shot blasted colours as a 100mm solid block.
For stack bond effect see page 24.

Hollow or cellular blockwork is an established solution to the stringent
challenges of the 20kg single lift requirements of the Construction (Design
and Management) Regulations. The Plasmor Architectural Masonry 140mm
Multicore Cellular block also satisfies acoustic
regulations with a sound reduction value of 50dB.
Available in textured, shotblast and vertiblock
finishes, single or multifaced and combined with
added strength, fixability and speed of laying
courtesy of the nominal top, 140mm Multicore is
the masonry block of choice in a host of applications.

ORDERING

Every care should be taken to ensure that orders for the project are
complete in every detail to gain the maximum benefit from the Plasmor
Project Management System.

The Knottingley Sales Office not only needs all the basic information on size,

thickness, compressive strength but also the quantities required of each type

of block and all the specials likely to be needed by the contractor, but also

requires the delivery address, delivery arrangements and any relevant order

number / project number.

The order will be delivered in wrapped packs, mechanically off loaded by

Plasmor’s own transport. Particular care needs to be taken in storing and
handling masonry on site. See page 34 for recommended site practice.
RECOMMENDED SITE PRACTICE

STORAGE OF PLASMOR ARCHITECTURAL MASONRY

1. Store on a level dry area on pallets

2. Stack carefully to avoid damage and ensure stability

3. Protect from rain or snow with waterproof sheeting

or tarpaulin

4. Stack in a way which permits free circulation of air

BEST WORKING PRACTICE

Mortar: Use a mortar with minimum water content. This will prevent
migration of fines and minimise the incidence of picture framing of
the finished blockwork, especially where coloured mortars are used.

It is recommended that clean washed sand be used in mortar mixes

to prevent lime bloom from the mortar joint.

Always use mortar of lesser compressive strength than the block.

This prevents the possibility of structural problems resulting from
shrinkage and movement.

Blocklaying: Ensure that blocks are laid vertically upright as

delivered in the packs otherwise shading may occur. Where blocks
are of the ‘shot blasted’ or ‘textured’ type ensure that the correct
