The study aimed to isolate and identify Rhodotorula species from chicken and quail meat samples. A total of 50 Rhodotorula strains were isolated from 200 chicken and quail meat samples, with an incidence of 25%. PCR was used to detect the crtR gene in randomly selected isolates. The crtR gene was detected at 560bp, confirming the isolates as Rhodotorula species. The high incidence of Rhodotorula indicates potential risks to public health from unhygienic rearing and slaughtering practices of poultry. Molecular characterization of the isolates can help identify Rhodotorula species and their significance to food safety.
