They were all right. All those people that told


me everything changes when you have a baby.
Our son arrived and within a single
moment everything did in fact change – it has
been an amazing change. I have never been so
fulfilled in my entire life. As a new mom, you choose to pass up on outings with your
girlfriends or a night out to grab wine and catch up. It’s not solely because the baby
requires it – it’s because you want to, a choice that you are making.
The mom life is rough, from juggling the post-partum symptoms, adjusting a baby
to a sleep schedule, learning how to build a routine, feeling confident and comfortable
in your new role and learning how to nurse and pump. It is a big win if a mom can
take a shower and eat some food in a day. Any mom I have ever talked to will sacrifice
whatever they must for their child; their sleep, time and lifestyle, all completely
changed in a heartbeat with no qualms.
But, what happens to you? Where do you go? A mom’s needs tend to come last. So,
many of us forget that we need to take care of ourselves to make ourselves a better and
happier, wife mother and individual person. Whatever stage of motherhood you may be

It is easy to become discouraged at the
start of a journey that involves a drastic
lifestyle change. Why? Things like life
responsibilities, such as all-consuming
careers and family obligations, turn into
escape routes and easy excuses. And the
older we become, the harder it sometimes
feels to embrace change altogether.
But, change is possible; This goes
for any stage in life, at any age. Just ask
Molly Edwards, a selfless woman who
always prioritized her family and work
before herself. As a result, Edwards had
serious illnesses knocking at her front
door. It wasn’t until she attended one of
her son’s karate tournaments that she
realized something had to change. No
more excuses or taking scenic routes –
Edwards decided to embrace a lifestyle
change … in her ‘40s.
Edwards moved from her home of
The Land of 10,000 Lakes (Minnesota) to
Arizona in 1984. As business professional
with a strong worth ethic, Edwards had
always taken high intensity jobs. In 2010,
she worked as the press secretary for the
attorney general’s office in Arizona. This
position required her undivided attention
