Use of Man The Strops are to be attached to the crane hook by a

Riding Baskets competent person – once connected the crane should be
instructed to lift the un-manned basket to a nominal height
to test the trueness/verticality of the lift.

Crane losing load 3 5 15 The basket is to be connected to the crane hook by a four- 1 5 5
leg wire/chain strop; purpose made for use and tested in
conjunction with the basket.
The SWL of the basket is marked clearly on the basket –
operatives will be made aware of the SWL and must never
exceed the SWL
Prior to using the basket the operative must perform a
thorough visual inspection of the basket and associated
parts.
Should the operative find any component to be damaged
he must inform his immediate supervisor.
Any damaged basket will be immediately placed into
quarantine until the damage has been repaired and the
basket has been re-tested.

Collision whilst in the basket 3 5 15 Prior to using a man-riding basket the Supervisor / 1 5 5
Foreman shall contact the Crane Operator and make them
aware of the details of the operation.

Severity (S): 1-minor 1st aid, 2-Minor hospital referral, 3-RIDDOR (over 3 day), 4-Major injury, 5-fatality
