Position: Regional Director of Project Management, Prairies

Location: Calgary

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES


The strategic focus of this role is to manage and improve the performance of the project
management team through strong leadership, training & mentoring, and to enhance the project
management processes, tools and discipline. The project management team consists of project
managers and project coordinators who are responsible for managing projects from our Calgary,
Edmonton and Winnipeg locations. The team is primarily involved in managing projects within the
following product segments: architectural, bridges, buildings, panels and parking garages ( and
periodically Oil and Gas projects ), where project values can range up to $40M depending on the
scope of work (ie. Supply Only versus Design Build Solutions), risk and complexity.

The principal focus of this position is to manage and develop the project management team, rather
than being a hands-on Project Manager.

Project Portfolio Management


Oversee the planning, management and control of projects within the Market Area Portfolio from
the pre-bid phase through to project closeout and the collection of holdbacks.
On an ongoing basis, manage and sustain the execution of Armtec’s core project management
processes which include (but is not limited to): project scheduling, contract review & negotiation,
project financial review and forecasting, change control, risk management and subcontractor
management.
Manage the performance and develop the Project Management knowledge and skills of a group of
five Project Managers and two Project Coordinators.
Direct and support the Project Managers and Project Coordinators in navigating project challenges
and balancing trade-offs which exist between project objectives such as scope, schedule, budget,
contractual commitments and customer expectations.
Assist the team in planning, managing and controlling project performance on large, complex and/or
high-risk projects.

Communication Management
Facilitate the weekly Project Status Meeting
Lead the monthly project financial reviews and support Finance in the maintenance of forecasting
revenue and ECAC
Support and guide the team in critical project discussions such as pre-bid meetings, project approval
reviews, risk analysis reviews, collaborative contract reviews, baseline scheduling meetings, close-
out meetings, among others
Attend ad hoc meetings with third parties (i.e. customers, subcontractors, consultants, engineers
and/or local authorities) in order to support the Project Team

Continuous Improvement
Work with the National Director as part of the PMO to improve, standardize and implement the
Project Management Practice across the company (incl. structure, process, tools, knowledge and
skills)
In addition to the national improvement initiatives, local improvement initiatives shall be identified
and implemented as well.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
10 years of Construction Project Management Experience
Experience with precast concrete manufacturing is a definite asset
Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role
Demonstrated track record of successfully managing projects and delivering on the target scope,
budget, schedule and quality objectives
Demonstrated track record of driving performance improvement through the implementation of
changes to project management proceses and tools

Education
Completed an Engineering Degree or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution is
preferred.
Received formal project management education from a certified PMI training partner or other
recognized educational institutions; a definite asset.
A basic knowledge of contract law

Skills
Effective communicator who is fluent in English (oral and written)
Broad technical background and strong technical aptitude (i.e. conversant with construction
drawings and specifications, codes, procedures and standards)
Proficient with Microsoft Office Products such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Experience with project management software programs (such as MS Project)
Experience using ERP solutions such as SAP or comparable solution is a definite asset Thank you for
