 Introduction

The following rules apply throughout this Service Manual:

1. Each chapter contains sections explaining the purpose of specific functions and the relationship between elec-
trical and mechanical systems with reference to the timing of operation.
In the diagrams, represents the path of mechanical drive; where a signal name accompanies the
symbol, the arrow indicates the direction of the electric signal.
The expression "turn on the power" means flipping on the power switch, closing the front door, and closing
the delivery unit door, which results in supplying the machine with power.
2. In the digital circuits, '1'is used to indicate that the voltage level of a given signal is "High", while '0' is used
to indicate "Low".(The voltage value, however, differs from circuit to circuit.) In addition, the asterisk (*) as
in "DRMD*" indicates that the DRMD signal goes on when '0'.
In practically all cases, the internal mechanisms of a microprocessor cannot be checked in the field.
Therefore, the operations of the microprocessors used in the machines are not discussed: they are explained
in terms of from sensors to the input of the DC controller PCB and from the output of the DC controller PCB
to the loads.

The descriptions in this Service Manual are subject to change without notice for product improvement or other

number of license information, and enter it into the iR host machine.

1.1.3 License configuration of the printer option(USA/AU)

BOOT ROM can be used commonly for the same model.

Replacement of BOOT ROM is not required for addition of the printer option.

The host-client relationship of the printer option:

The printer option involves the UFR II, PCL, and PS.

How to handle the license option of which multiple functions are integrated to 1 license:
Conventionally in the Send option, in case of integration of multiple functions into 1 license option, multiple
license certificates for each function had been packed with the machine.
Inactivation of the license transfer had been available for each function.
Such license option product as [UFR II+PCL] or [PCL+PS] has 1 integrated license certificate.
Registration of 1 license information concurrently activates multiple functions such as [UFR II+PCL] or

[PCL+PS].
Inactivation of the license transfer inactivates the transfer of all the activated printer options collectively.
No separate transfer inactivation is available.
Separate inactivation of the license from the service mode screen results in the NG message.
Notabilia with regards to the license transfer inactivation:
In the standard option settings for the host machine, due to the lack of transfer inactivation information, no
license transfer to the other host machine of the same model is available.
[Invalidating the License for Transfer to a Different Device] can only license option.
Ex.1
The host machine A is the one which employs UFR II as a standard.
The newly-purchased host machine B is a copier-only one.
Want to change the host machine B to a printer model by transfer inactivation of UFR II license in the host
machine A.
->In this case, as there is no transfer inactivation information in the host machine A, the license cannot be
transferred to the host machine B.

Ex.2
The host machine A is a copier-only machine. The UFR II option was purchased to register the license
information.
The newly-purchased host machine B is a copier-only one.
Want to change the host machine B to a printer model by transfer inactivation of UFR II license in the host
machine A.
->In this case, as there is a transfer inactivation information in the host machine A, the license can be
transferred to the host machine B.
How to confirm the activated printer option license:
The options displayed by selecting [counter confirmation key > device configuration confirmation] for the
users in the operation panel are individual functions (such as UFR II+ PCL), not the names of the purchased
options.
Consequently, the license certificate is the only way to see the combination of options.
Enter the service mode level 2 and go to the service mode described below. Then the license condition is
displayed and transfer inactivation can be executed.

The field No.1 in the table below shows the activated/inactivated condition of UFR II, PCL, and PS in the
service mode.
*- marked service code must be used for the license transfer inactivation. Other operations do not work
appropriately.

Device fonts are not used as the printing uses the UFR II driver.

GDI raster fonts cannot be used - e.g.,

One Byte - Courier, MS Sans Serif, and MS Serif.
Two Byte - FixedSys, System, Small Fonts, Terminal
GDI vector fonts can be used - e.g.,
One Byte - Modern, Roman, and Script.

Area-Specific Paper Sizes:

In addition to default paper sizes (A4/LTR) and user-defined paper sizes, the printer driver supports area-
specific paper sizes (e.g., Officio), and it handles these area-specific paper sizes as user-defined paper sizes,
requiring the user to register them in advance of use. To do so, see the instructions on registering user-defined
paper sizes for individual operating systems.
When an area-specific paper size is manually set up under [Form to Tray Assignment] of the driver UI, or if the
size obtained by running dynamic configuration happens to be an area-specific paper size, the driver operates
in the corresponding mode. After performing all associated internal operations, the driver runs a check of area-
specific paper sizes stored as user defined paper sizes, and handles any matching paper as a default paper size
(special paper ID) instead of as a user-defined paper size. Moreover, the driver permits registration of multiple
area-specific paper sizes, treating them as a separate paper group. The driver UI handles them using
specifications designed for LTR paper, permitting the use of finisher functions, which were previously offered
for user-defined paper sizes (except the use of the middle binding function). Although it will permit all settings,
the printer unit may ignore some of the settings. (The printer driver will simply ignore them, not issuing
conflicts.)

Raster Mode
Use of a device font is determined by the driver setting.
If a device font is used, the Raster Mode will handle data the same as the HP-GL/2 Mode.
If not, the following restrictions will be imposed.

*GDI Raster Fonts unavailable 1 byte fonts such as Courier, MS Sans Serif, MS Serif, etc.
*GDI Vector Fonts available 1 byte fonts such as Modern, Roman, Script, etc.

Direct Print of TIFF / JPEG:
The inside area of 5.0 mm from the edges
If [Enlarge Printing area] is set to on, all margins become 0mm so that the available printing area is extended
to the whole area of paper.
If the aspect ratio of image is same as that of the specified paper size, the image can be printed without
margins around the image.
No print is made, however, on the outside of the available printing area set in the copier: the inside of 4.0 mm
from the lead edge, 2.0 mm from the trail edge, and 2.5 mm each from both sides.
1.1.8 Limitations(Direct Print)

It is not possible to send to multiple PDF files simultaneously.

When a job is forwarded using the remote UI, PDF file cannot be forwarded from multiple host terminals
simultaneously. When a PDF file is forwarded from one host PC and the other host PC simultaneously, the error
is displayed on the latter host PC. However, even while forwarding the PDF file from one host PC, the other
host PC can operate the remote UI and forward the other PDL job simultaneously.
Page range for page label cannot be specified.
Specifying Page range for the page label which is supported in PDF Ver1.3 (e.g. Contents is used Roman
numbers and the text is used Arabic numbers) is not supported.

Original print specification

PDF aims to be viewed by the viewer, so you need to specify the print operations originally. The following items
are summed the specifications of the original print. Note that the following specifications are different
depending on the compatible printer.

Encrypted file
Decoding the PDF file encrypted by encryption algorithm RC4 128bit is supported.

- The cryption key is input with remote UI as a password (maximum : 32 characters - half size of charactor ),
forwarded to the device with the plaintext, and decoded.

- When both the user password and the owner password are set to the document, either password can be
accepted.

- When only the owner password is set to the document, entering the password is unnecessary.

If the password authentication fails, or any of the restrictions on printing applies, no printing will occur and the
session will end by indicating an error message in the control panel.

Decoding is supported only if the file has been encoded using the Standard Security Handler (PDF standard).

Printing Restrictions

Introducing a PDF file not having printing permission will not initiate printing unless the following is true:
-The file has been given an owner password, and the password is entered correctly.
Introducing a PDF file having permission for low-resolution printing will not initiate printing if the following
is true:
-The file has been given a user password, but the password is entered incorrectly (i.e., an illegal password is
entered).
-The file has been given both owner password and user password, but one of them is entered incorrectly (e.g.,
an illegal password is entered).

Halftone screen
When halftone screen is used in the file, rendering using this halftone is not conducted. The dither processing is
conducteddone.
By ignoring the halftone screen in the PDF file, since Acrobat's default print setting is "Emit halftone", the
output will be the same result as the output from Acrobat with PS.

When the European character font specified by PDF doesn't exist, it is substituted by the multiple master font.
However, it doesn't adjust the width of the character when the Chinese character font is substituted, so the
position of the output might be displaced, depending on the substituted characters. (This is same as the Adbe PS
machine).

2.1 Basic Function

2.1.1 Canon Driver Information Assist Service (DIAS)

This is a subset version of the Netspot Suite Service, supporting Driver only: we have selected Driver's functions
(mainly, the functions to acquire Device configuration information) and redesigned them. The DIAS has the
following functions:
- To acquire Device configuration information (acquisition when setting up Printer Property.)
- To make recognition in department-control printing (communication when setting up Printer Property or when
making a department-control print)

Main structure of DIAS

DIAS (DLL): It is a module loaded on Driver
DIAS (Service): It does a service of installation on printer server when using a shared printer (resident process)
CBT: It is a module group to control a local port, such as Centronics Cable or USB
H-VDC: It is a module group which are needed for the driver function in DIAS.

Characteristics of DIAS
- Local printer can acquire the configuration information in DIAS (DLL) only.
Local printer means a printer that is "Peer to Peer" connected with Local PC via LPR/IPP/Centronics Cable/
USB and that Spooler (Print queue) appears on the Local PC.
- Shared printer needs to have DIAS (Service) installed on printer server.
The installation of DIAS (Service) must be done via Driver installer.
Shared printer means a printer whose Spooler (Print queue) appears on the printer server (Remote PC).

- However, in some cases, DIAS (Service) needs to be installed for Local Port connection. (See "Help" >
"Troubleshoot the acquisition of configuration information".

About the version indication

The same Driver version indication as the one via Netspot Suite Service appears only when communicating with
Device via DIAS (Service) (i.e., when connected through a shared printer).

Compatibility of DIAS and Netspot Suite Service

DIAS and Netspot Suite Service are compatible and independent. Driver supporting DIAS does not use Netspot
Suite Service even if it is installed.

Cautions when using DIAS

CBT controls all access to Local Port; both DIAS (DLL/Service) and NetSpot Suite Service use CBT to access
Local Port from the same PC.
CBT was installed only on Netspot Suite Service before; it is automatically uninstalled in response to
uninstalling the existing NetSpot Suite Service. Follow the procedures below when uninstalling the former
versions of NetSpot Suite Service v3.40 and when uninstalling JobMonitor v4.20 and former.
- Reinstall DIAS after the uninstallation is complete. (Reinstallation of DIAS is enabled via Installer.)
- Update NetSpot Suite Service to the latest version (v3.40 and later).

2.1.2 FTP Printing

This device provides a FTP server for receiving print data. The device can accept print jobs sent in FTP from
client PCs. This is called FTP printing, a new feature first employed on iRC 6800. To use this feature, the FTP
Print option must be selected. It is selected by default. You can access the option by pressing Ad Func, System
Settings, Network Settings, TCP/IP Settings, and FTP Print Settings buttons. In FTP Print Settings screen, only
one pair of a user name and password can be entered for the user who can log in to the FTP server. No settings
are made for both of the fields by default.

Commands

The FTP server complies with the RFC 959 -- File Transfer Protocol -- but provides only printing function. Thus
the server does not support other functions required as a RFC 959 compliant server. The commands available
for the FTP client are "user," "password," "bin," "put," "bye," "hash," and "help." There is no use of other
commands since the server does not provide functions other than printing. The following lists the notes to use
the commands.

- To send print data with the command "put," set the mode to the binary mode using the command "bin." In the
ascii mode, the data cannot be sent with the command "put."
- If the user and password fields are blank, any user with any password can log in. If the user name "anonymous"
is used, any character string can be entered as the password. The device displays the string in User filed of Log
screen.

- This function is featured mainly to print prn files output from PDL drivers. The device processes text files and
the like as it receives data in LPR (and does not properly print depending on settings.) The device of PostScript-
compatible model can print PDF files, compatible with PDF V1.3.

Number of Connections and Used Ports

The maximum number of concurrent connections is three. If a user attempts to connect to the FTP server with
which three connections have been established, the user cannot log in and fails in connection. The default port
for the FTP server is 21. There is no measure provided to change the port.

The control port time-out is set to 300 seconds. You need to re-connect to the server if you have left the
connection for 300 seconds or more after logging in. The data port time-out is 60 minutes.
2.1.3 Processing on System

Processing after Power Shutdown

If the power is shut down during PDL data processing, all the image data temporarily stored in the hard disk
drive to be printed or stored in Mail Boxes are destroyed and the jobs are canceled. PDL data stored in the hard
disk drive immediately before a power shutdown are destroyed as the power is shut down. Processing the data
of those, therefore, will not resume when the power is turned on after the shutdown. Jobs interrupted by a power
shutdown will be displayed in the Log list with the End Code "NG (#852)."

2.1.4 Up to 50 mm of Gutter

Up to 50 mm of the gutter can be specified. The gutter can be adjusted within a range from 0 mm to 50 mm in
1 mm increments. The local UI and the print driver have the controls for the gutter settings.

The image is shifted to the width value specified for gutter, making a margin. If the shift causes the image to
overflow from the printable area, the overflowing area is missing from the print results. The overflowing image
will not be reduced to fit into the printable area.

2.1.5 Secured Print Jobs

Overview:
Secured Print is the function that a password is provided to the PDL(UFR II and PCL, PS) print job and it is sent
to the device. Then, it is rasterized on the device side, saved in the image server and output by entering the
password from the device's panel. This function is used when dealing with the documents which you do not want
other people to see, such as confidential documents.
a) Password is provided.
In order to conduct the Secured Print, the printer driver requires the user to enter the password from GUI. This
password is provided to the print job and it is sent to the device. This function can be conducted by using CPCA
protocol(UFR II and PCL, PS).

b) Job execution and pending

PDL print job sent to the device as the Secured Print job is compiled on the job queue like the normal PDL print
job. Then, it is rasterized by PDL interpreter, saved in the image server as the document image file and becomes
pending here. However, all job information, such as paper supply/output, the number of copies and finishing
information remains.

c) Job started by entering the password

If the Secured Print job is pending, the display indicating the pending state appears on the job status screen of
the panel. If you select this job from the panel, you are required to enter the password. When the password you
entered is same as the password provided from the printer driver, the pending job will be started. When the
password is different, the job is treated as an error, so it is not started and it remains in the pending state. Entering
the password to start the job cannot be executed before the Secured Print job transfers to the pending state.
d) Output
The started Secured Print job is output to the printer engine with the top priority. This top priority means that if
the jobs can be changed in priority order, the Secured Print job can be prioritized. This job is proceeded
according to all job information specified by the printer driver, etc., such as paper supply/output, the number of
copies and finishing information. When the processing is completed and all documents are output, the
documents and job information stored in the image server are deleted.

e) Operations for Secured Print jobs

Like other print jobs, Secured Print jobs can be deleted, interrupted, restarted and promoted by operating from
the status screen of the print job. Regarding these operations, the device side does not distinguish from
operations of the normal PDL job. That is, the password entry is required only when the job is output. If you
interrupt or restart the job during outputting, the password setting and matching are not conducted.
f) Automatically delete of Secured Print Jobs

When Secured Print Job is continuing being suspended for a long time, apparatus deletes a job automatically.
There are options for automatic job deletion time -- 1, 2, 3, 6, 12, and 24 hours. With a view of security and
memory usage, no option longer than 1 day is available. The elapsed time starts after all the processes for the
PDL data and the rendering for all the image data, for which Secured Print is specified, are finished.

g) Specifications and Limitations on Secured Print Jobs

The limitations on Secured Print jobs are listed as follows.

- Once data of a Secured Print job is printed, it is immediately deleted and cannot be printed any more.

- If the power for the controller is shut down, unprinted data of a Secured Print job is deleted from the printer.

- All the job information, represented by the paper source and output information, information of the number of
copies, and finishing information, cannot be changed on the printer.

- If the entire raster information for a Secured Print job cannot be stored in the image server (hard disk drive)
due to insufficient memory, the job results in an error, to be deleted.

- Up to 50 Secured Print jobs of image data being rendered and left unprinted can be stored.

of pages in sets.

2.1.9 Application Color Matching Priority

There have been some cases that color reproducibility may become inappropriate if users perform color
matching in the printer driver again though they have already done it in PC.
When the checkbox for Application Color Matching Priority under [ In Quality > Manual Color Settings > Color
Settings > Matching > Application Color Maching Priority] is cleared, it can declare to the application software
on PC that Driver handles ICM processing.
This notice enables to perform Image Color Matching processing as designated in printer driver UI since the
process is not done to the color values given from OS to driver.
Though Application Color Matching Priority is set to on as default so that existing version can be compatible,
when specified color tinge cannot be materialized, clearing the checkbox makes it manageable.

2.1.10 Use Skip Blank Pages Mode

If [Use Skip Blank Pages Mode] is set to [On], blank pages are skipped even if [2-sided Printing] is set in [Print
Style].
For instance, when the first page is blank and the second and third pages have data, the first page is skipped, the
data of second page is printed on the front side of the sheet, and that of third page is printed on the back side of
the same sheet.
Similarly, when the first page has data, the second is blank and the third has data, the data of first page is printed
on the front side of the sheet, the second page is skipped, and the data of third page is printed on the back side
of the same sheet.
Though the setting of [Skip Blank Pages] is conducted on the control panel of the iR main body, a printer driver
released enables users to specify the setting in the driver.

2.1.11 What's the Direct Print?

A feature to transfer files from host PC terminals to the printer and interrupts the data to print without a printer
driver. The printer interprets and prints the files. It, thus, saves opening files for printing.

To print, specify a PDF, TIFF, or JPEG file through the Remote UI.
The Direct Print feature includes printing with LPR commands through the command prompt.
Direct Print for TIFF and JPEG Files

The Direct Print is designed to use in the conditions below. It does not guarantee operations other than those
specified.

Direct Print:
The automatic emulation judge judges a print job of JPEG or TIFF data sent directly from a host as a direct print
data and the Direct Print interprets and prints the job.

There are two available sending methods shown below.

-Sending from the Remote UI.

Use a remote UI for the method to forward the PDF file from a host PC to the device and forward a job to be
printed. In this case, as a forwarding protocol, HTTP is used. Job of PDF file using the remote UI cannot be
forwarded from multiple host PCs simultaneously. While one host PC forwards the PDF file and the other host
PC requests to forward the PDF file, the latter host PC which forwards the file has the error display. However,
even while forwarding the PDF file from one host terminal, the other host terminal can operate the remote UI
and forward the other PDL job simultaneously.

-Sending through the command prompt with a command such as "copy /b" and "lpr."
Use LPD for the method to forward the PDF file from a host PC to the device and forward a job to be printed.
Use LPR command as a method to forward a job. Job using LPD cannot specify various print settings.

Data Processing:

The Direct Print can handle up to 4G bytes of data.

The Direct Print interprets image data (JPEG or TIFF) sent from a PC and saves the data in the hard disk drive.
The method to interpret and save the data varies by data type.
For JPEG Data:

The Direct Print interprets data without saving in the hard disk drive. - Sequential method.

For TIFF Data:

The Direct Print always saves data in the hard disk drive first and then interprets the data. - File access method
The Direct Print for image files complies with the specifications for ITU-T Recommendation T.81.
TIFF data complies with the specifications of Adobe TIFF Revision 6.0.

2.1.12 Outline of PDF Direct Print

The PDF Direct Print is a function to forward the PDF file from host PC terminal to the printer, and for the
printer to interpret and to print the PDF file. Therefore, the client software that corresponds to the printer driver
doesn't exist. Moreover, neither the transmission media nor the protocol to forward the file to the printer are
specified. In this machine, used remote UI and LPR as client software to forward the PDF file to the printer.
Direct Print is that a file is forwarded to the printer directly, In contrast, Reference Print is that file's location
information is forwarded to the printer and the printer obtains and print the file. In this machine, the Reference
Print function of the PDF directed from the remote UI is provided.

2.1.13 Reference Printing

Using reference printing, you can specify the URL of a PDF file existing in an external device, and download
the file to your device for printing. You must use a remote UI whenever you wish to introduce a reference print
job.
HTTP is the only protocol that is supported.
Downloading is possible from the Internet through a proxy server. (The proxy server must be set up using user
mode/network settings.)
Authentication is possible by means of a user name and a password; however, authentication will not take place
unless the Web server is capable of authentication in keeping with the HTTP protocol. Also, a user name and a
password must be entered in advance, and there will be no interactive authentication procedure.
There must be no more than one URL.
A job is introduced by specifying an URL in the URL input field on the PDF direct print setup page and then
pressing the Print button.
Both a PDF direct print job and a reference print job may be introduced at the same time. A reference print job
may be introduced even while a PDF file is being transferred for PDF direct printing.

An error identified before downloading of a PDF file is started will be indicated using the remote UI that has
been used to introduce the reference print job. The types of errors that may be indicated are as follows:

-an error caused by not being able to find the specified server
-an error caused by not being able to find the specified PDF file on the Web server
-URL structured error
-authentication error
-connection time-out
-an error caused by the absence of a PDF file in the specified URL
When the presence of the file has been confirmed and downloading has been started, an indication to that effect
will also be made.
An additional job (PDF reference print) will not be accepted until the PDF file in question has been downloaded
from the specified URL, indicating an error using the remote UI if an attempt is made.
While a PDF file is being downloaded, an indication is made as part of spool job status; a time-out condition
occurring at time of downloading will be indicated as "NG" in the spool job history.
Regardless of whether hard disk spooling is enabled or disabled, reference printing will always be through
spooling on the hard disk.
A press on the Stop button in the browser immediately after the introduction of a reference print job using the
remote UI will not stop the ongoing PDF downloading if the HTTP command has already been sent to the device
and PDF downloading has started. (If the wrong URL has been entered and a reference print job has been
introduced, another job will not be accepted until a time-out condition has occurred for connection to the Web
server.)
2.1.14 IPPS Print

There is a security risk in the current IPP (Internet Printing Protocol), as the print data to be sent on the Internet
is not encrypted. In IPPS, the data is encrypted by SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and the reliability is enhanced.

Restrictions
It is impossible to use IPPS and IPP together.
When System Settings > Network Settings > TCP/IP Settings > IP Address Range Settings in Additional
Functions is set to 'ON', printing is available only from the PC with valid address.

In Additional Function, enter System Settings > Network Settings > TCP/IP Settings > IPP Print Settings and
set 'Use SSL' to 'ON'.

As a rule, the user is expected to obtain a license key and register it to the device. Detailed instructions are found
in the User's Guide. The following is an outline of the instructions:
1. Using the following URL, access the LMS, and obtain the license key by following the instructions shown
on the screen:

Memo:
A license key is issued in exchange for the 16-digit number indicated on the License Access Number
Certificate and the serial number of the device (e.g., ABC01234) to which the license will be registered. The
device serial number will be indicated in response to a press on the Counter key on the iR device (under
[Serial Number]).
2. Copy the 24-digit number shown on the Web browser screen in the space given for the purpose on the License
Access Number Certificate sheet.
Caution:
Be sure to double-check the number to avoid an error. Be sure that the user is aware of the importance of the
License Access Number Certificate and that it must be stored away in a safe place.

3. Make the following selections: user mode>system control setup>license control. Then, type in the 16-digit
number, and click [Execute]. In response, the license key will be registered and the appropriate functions will
be enabled. Otherwise, any of the following error messages will appear:

"The number of the license key is not correct. Check the license key."
>> Make sure that the license key is not issued for a different device.
>> Make sure that the number has been correctly typed in.
>> Make sure that the license key is the correct one.

"The function has already been enabled."

>> Make sure that the Kit has not already been enabled.

4. Hold down the control panel power switch for 3 sec or more. Follow the instructions shown on the screen for
shut-down sequence so that the main power switch may be turned off. Turn off the main power switch, wait for
10 sec, and turn it back on.

5. The registered license will become valid when the device is turned back on. When it has started normally,
press the Counter key, and click the Device Configuration button to make sure that the Kit is indicated as part
of the options.

- With regard to paper size and margin size, depending on calculation errors in the system,application software
and driver, or due to the paper feed accuracy of the printer, paper shrinkage or stretching caused by heat and
or humidity, the actual sizes may be greater or smaller than the specified or desired size.
- Supported fonts can be used by adding to the Windows fonts.

4.2 Reference matter in market service

4.2.1 Invalidating the License for Transfer to a Different Device data recovery
method

Here the keys required to invalidate the license for transfer to a different device will be described. The following
is not an explanation of how to validate such license.
'Invalidating the License for Transfer to a Different Device' can be executed in the Service Mode in order to
make accessories validated by the license information available to another host machine.
License history data is required when invalidating the license for transfer to a different device. License history
data is stored threefold in 3 different locations - HDD, Counter PCB, and SRAM on the Main Controller.
Once the HDD and / or Main Controller are replaced with new ones, it may not be possible to invalidate the
license for transfer to a different device for options validated by the license information.
License key history data
License history data is used in order that the transferred license key cannot be used in the same iR host
machine again.
-License history data has a total of the number of the iR accessory license key and the MEAP applications

When HDD and Counter board are broken

When the data cannot be recovered from SRAM to the counter board, all history data of license key/transfer
license key will be lost.
The accessories continue to be available even in such cases, although 'Invalidating the License for Transfer
to a Different Device' cannot be executed.

host machine from the PC.
If you check the error code in the following operations, you can obtain the reference information which can
specify the cause.

of Result.
The error code "#853" (An error or non-support function is detected in the host machine and the job is canceled)
has 30 or more causes. It has been difficult to specify the cause, as 30 or more causes are lumped together as

rendered and executes either of the followings. After that, if it is possible to continue the processing, printing
job of the remaining data is done. If it is impossible to continue the processing, it skips importing the
remaining data in printing job and ends.

4.4 Related Service Mode

4.4.1 Invalidating the License for Transfer to a Different Device (Level 2)

Possible Situation
A license may be used on a different device through transfer, as when replacing the device at the end of a lease
agreement. To do so, the user must first invalidate the existing license by performing a set of steps referred to
as "invalidation of a license" using service mode. At times, both source and target of transfer may be the same
device, and a license therefore may also be invalidated only temporarily. It is important to note that the user must
contact the Sales Company to make a license good regardless of whether it has been invalidated intentionally or
inadvertently.

Invalidation Procedure
Invalidation consists in invalidating the license in service mode and generating an invalidation certificate that
proves the completion of invalidation. Invalidation may take place for individual optional functions, and a
specific function becomes no longer available as soon as an invalidation certificate is issued. The user contacts
the Sales Company and provides the following: the invalidation certificate, the device serial number of the
source of transfer, the device serial number of the target of transfer, reason of transfer. In response, the Sales
Company may issue a license key for new installation on a different device. The user must take note of the new
license key in writing, and keep it as a record after registering it to the target device.

Installation Procedure
1. Start service mode, and activate Level 2 so that the following is true:

2. If an option has already been installed, '1' will be indicated under A. If you want to invalidate it, select it, and
type in '0' so that the indication under B will change to '0'.

3. Thereafter, when [OK] is pressed, the indication under A will change to '0' and, at the same time, an
invalidation certificate will be indicated in the form of a number. Take note of it in writing together with the
serial number of the target device.

4. When the target device is ready, check its serial number.

5. Contact the Sales Company, and provide the following: invalidation certificate for transfer, serial number of
the source device, serial number of the target device. The Sales Company, in response, may issue a new license
key that may be registered on the target device.

6. Register the new license key to the target device, and check to make sure that the function has been enabled.
