Assignment 2: Individual Project

The internet is a rapidly expanding venue for business, communication and interaction. As a result,
it is important not only to know how to navigate the web but also how to create content for it. In
this assignment, you need to evaluate Web Sites. Go to the four retail web sites and shop for a
product. For example, if I were shopping for a pair of jeans, I would try to find similar jeans at
four different retailers. I might view Victoria’s Secret, GAP, J. Crew and Levi’s because they all
offer about the same quality and target similar markets. In your reports, please answer the
following questions in detail:

1) Identify the retailers you choose and why.

 I would like to choose a backpack as a product. The retailers that been identified that
sell backpacks are 11street, Zalora, Iprice, OBS.
 I would like to choose OBS (Outdoor Backpack Store) as the retailer because the
retailer is specializing on selling backpacks and provide good quality and original
backpacks better than other retailers that been identified.
2) How do you compare your experience shopping on the Internet to shopping in a local store for
this type of product?
 Shopping on the Internet most likely, need a credit card, PayPal account, checking
account, or some sort of online financing option and need to wait for it to arrive through
the mail. But the easiest place to purchase products if I have the money. All I need is
a way to get to the local store and take the item home.

 In addition, shopping on the Internet is at my fingertips without having to drive miles to

find it. For example, I want to buy backpack. If the product is not a product that I looking
for, I can surf another. The only drawback is I can't test the product beforehand unless
I find it at a retail store near, but I can read product reviews, user opinions, and
manufacturer specs with minimal exertion. Most reputable sites make aware the
availability of each item.
3) What are the advantages and disadvantages of the Internet shopping experience?
Advantages
1. Convenience of online shopping
 Customers can purchase items from the
comfort of their own homes or work place.
Shopping is made easier and convenient
for the customer through internet. It is also
easy to cancel the transactions.
2. Saves time and efforts
 Customers do not have to stand in queues
in cash counters to pay for the products
that have been purchased by them. They
can shop from their home or work place
and do not have to spend time traveling.
The customers can also look for the
products that are required by them by
entering the key words or using search
engines.
3. Online tracking
 Online consumers can track the order
status and delivery status tracking of
shipping is also available.
Disadvantages
1. Delay in delivery
 Long duration and lack of proper inventory
management result in delays in shipment.
Though the duration of selecting, buying
and paying for an online product may not
take more than 15 minutes; the delivery of
the product to customer’ s doorstep takes
about 1-3 weeks. This frustrates the
customer and prevents them from
shopping online.
2. Lack of interactivity in online shopping
 Physical stores allow price negotiations
between buyers and the seller. The show
room sales attendant representatives
provide personal attention to customers
and help them in purchasing goods.
Certain online shopping mart offers
service to talk to a sales representative.
3. Frauds in online shopping
 The rate of cyber crimes has been
increasing and customers’ credit card
details and bank details have been
misused which raise privacy issues.
Customers have to be careful in
revealing their personal information.
Some of the e-tailers are unreliable.

5) Which one of these sites would you use? Why?
I would choose OBS (Outdoor Backpack Store). The reasons of I choose to use this website because
the website is specializing in selling various backpacks. The website provides good quality and original
products. It also provides specific details of the products such as the material of the products, the weight,
the features of the products and the price are reasonable. The website also is user friendly. Thus, the
customers are ease to use the website. In addition, the website is trusted in online shopping, so the
payment is more secure for online shopping.
