Penicillium
One type of mold that is commonly found in homes is Penicillium. Penicillium is a
form of mold that is frequently found in things like insulation, carpeting, wallpaper,
and rotting fabrics. The big recognizable feature for this type of mold is the color in
which it appears in your home. Unlike most molds that are dark colors like black and
brown, Penicillium is more of a blue, green, and yellow hue.
Mold is usually classi ed as toxic and detrimental to our health, however, Penicillium
actually can aid our health in a di erent way. It has medical use as a key substance in a
bene cial antibiotic because of the mycotoxins it contains. Nevertheless, this type of
mold can still be toxic to your health so taking steps in removing it from your home is
important.
Alternaria
Do you walk into your home and start to experience all the fun signs of allergy, like
sneezing, coughing, and watery eyes? Well, your home may have traces of Alternaria
mold somewhere hidden causing you to experience these symptoms. Alternaria is one
of the most common types of mold and ranks as the primary cause of allergic reactions.
The conditions also play a key role in the development of this type of mold, as it thrives
during the summer when dry winds move spores indoors. The best place to look for this
mold is in wet areas because it is usually found after water damage or a flood.
Aspergillus
Aspergillus is a type of mold that is classi ed as a toxic mold, which is de ned by
production of mycotoxins that can cause serious health problems in humans and
animals. The symptoms of Aspergillus exposure include respiratory problems, bone
pain, chest pain, and vision problems. Aspergillus mold can also be considered an
environmental allergy and can lead to the development of allergic bronchopulmonary
aspergillosis, an allergic reaction to Aspergillus. This mold tends to grow around dust
mainly on walls, clothing, and paper and you can see it has a yellowish-green
appearance.
Cladosporium
Classi ed as one of the more strong types of mold, because Cladosporium can grow at
almost any temperature including in cold environments. Cladosporium is a less toxic
form of mold with fewer health e ects than many other molds but asthma attacks are
prevalent when this mold is in the environment. However, if you wish to remain in
optimal health you should remove this mold as soon as it is discovered.
