Superstar Cub: One of our own Cox Cubs,

Catherine Karsaz, traveled to Washington D.C. to represent not
only our school but for the state of Nevada for the National PTA
Reflections Student Arts Showcase!
Catherine Karsaz won for our school, district, and state in the
Visual Arts category. Thank you Catherine for making us proud!

Technology Update: We have new labs! The computer

refurbishment is complete at our school and the kids were so
patient with having the labs down for the week! We will be putting the former computers into a third
lab and the rest into classrooms along with 81 new Chromebooks for intermediate classrooms!
Counselor’s Week: Did you know that next week is “Counselor’s Week?” It’s a time to recognize the amazing things our
school counselors do for us every day and we have the best one here at David M. Cox, Ms. Deihl! To show our appreciation
to our counselor we’d like the students to…
Monday – bring her a kind note or drawing
Wednesday – bring her a flower
Friday – bring her a sweet treat

Student Safety Reminder: Parents, the PTA Miler’s program is a before-school extracurricular program which is NOT
supervised by David Cox Staff. We only have 4-6 parent volunteers per day/week which assist with the program. WE NEED
MORE PARENTS TO HELP WITH THIS PROGRAM. Students cannot be on campus at 8:30 and not participate in Milers.
Students will be brought to office and you will be phoned to come and pick up your child if they are found to be playing
instead of being on the field. Please remind your student that when you bring them to Milers they are to go straight to the field
after dropping their backpacks off at the dot. They are not to “play” while on the field. This is a walking-jogging program, not
a throwing rocks and acorns. Any behaviors which are not safe or part of the program will result in your child being removed
from the Milers program for remainder of the year.

News for 2018-2019 (second posting): Things are moving very fast with planning for our district. I was just notified that we
will be assigned to have a “Primary Autism” classroom for the upcoming school year (in addition to our current self-contained
programs). Mrs. Ball-Aguilar, our current 5th grade teacher will be moving into that teaching position and following her as
the SPTA for that room will be Mrs. Hernandez, also currently in 5th grade.
*We were also given an additional 2nd grade position, so we will be adding a 5th second grade for next year’s departments.

A Look Ahead:
*All events listed are subject to change.
