Slab

To draw a slab on the plan view of the grid

Select on the left pan 'Draw Rectangular area(Plan,Elev(this shows u can draw your
rectangular area from either plan or elevation view)'

on the coming poppup select:

Property- select the slab type to be used on this floor slab(if it is not typical
on the other floors,
go to the bottom and select 'One Story' from the drop down list' or if it is
typical select 'All Stories' and make sure

the unit is in 'KN-m'.

then select on the slab and go to the Assign-Shell/Area laods-Uniform and on the
popup window fill the following

Loas Case Name-Select Dead

Under uniform Load
Load- Type 3.92 for solid slab or other value of areal load specified.
Under options

select - Add to existing Loads.

After this , Select the slab areas , and goto Edit-Mesh area

Select 'Mesh Quads/Triangles into 8 by 8 or very increased value to get the

accurate meshing
of the slab with the other member of the structure and accurate analysis.

To draw Ribbed slab:

Firist Define a rib as a ribbed beam on Material Properties as:

Go to Define-Frame Sections-Select Add rectangular from the 2nd drop down and Fill
the following vlues on
the comming popup window

Section Name-RIB/10X26/

Material-CONC(Defined in material property for the concrete used in the

Construction,in this casee C-25)
Dimensions:
Depth-0.26
Width-0.1

then Click on Reinforcement:

Concrete Cover to Rebar Center

Design Type - select Beam.

Top-0.02
Bottom-0.02
then click ok two times

Next go to the left pan and Click on 'Create Secondary beams in Region or at
circle(plan)' and select and fill
the following values when a window comes:

Property:-Select RIB/10X26/
Moment Releases-Pinned
Spacing-Select Max Spacing
Max Spacing- Type 0.4(Center to center spacing between the ribs)
Approxi. Orientation-Select Parallel to X or T(in this case) or Parallel to Y or R
( depending on the orientation of the rib arrangement)

Lastly click on the slab areas you want to put the ribbed beam and etabs will draw
the ribs according to the spacing Provided.

To display the load on the slab shell , Go to

Display-show loads-shell/area/displayed load is = 3.92

First Define the Type of Static and dynamic load on :

Define-Static Load Case

Load Type Self Weight Multiplier Auto Lateral Load

DEAD----DEAD-----------1
LIVE----LIVE-----------0
WALL----DEAD-----------0
EQX-----QUAKE----------0-----------------------UBC 94
EQY-----QUAKE----------0-----------------------UBC 94

Next Define Load Combination on:

Define-Load Combination and Fill the following Parameters:

COMB1-- Dead Static Load --- 1.3

LIVE Static Load --- 1.6
WALL Static Load --- 1.3
COMB2-- EQX Static Load --- 1
COMB1 Combo-------0.75
COMB3-- EQX Static Load --- -1
COMB1 Combo ------ 0.75
COMB4-- EQY Static Load --- 1
COMB1 Combo ------ 0.75
COMB5-- EQY Static Load --- -1
COMB1 Combo ------ 0.75
COMB6-- Dead Static Load --- 1
LIVE Static Load --- 1
WALL Static Load --- 1

Stair case - one Way Load Distribution.

To create a cantilever Slab - extend(offset) the external beams to a desired

dimension(Say 0.6m)

Define a Cantilever Section on Define- Slab.

To offset
1st-Select the beams that needs to be offseted.

2nd- go to edit-Replicate- along y direction - dy- (-0.6m)

3rd for beam along y axis offset dx= 0.6m

For Chamfering Slab use the following Procedure---

Edit--Edit Shells-

To ADD a new Story ; Go to Edit- Edit story - Story Data

For seeing only one Story- Go to Select-By Story Level and select pstory(Basement
Story)

After Selection go to View- Show selection only.

To Go to The previos view- go to View- Show all

Assigning retaining wall for Lift section of 200mm thickness.

Go to Define-Wall-Add new wall - (Type-membrane)

For assigning a wall - select draw wall on the right selection pan(Draw Walls)
( Remember no need of
a column aroun retaining wall)
Define the elevator area as open space

To Assign a load to slab, first select the slabs to be loaded and go to assign-
Sheel/area loads-uniform

How to assign a dead and live load

assign the wall load

meshing of slab section

before assignining the load , first select the 'Similar story' option for similar
floors with similar loads

Select the slab panels, go to Assign-Shell/Area loads- Uniform (Value of 3.92) ,

Live Load - 5KN/m2

a water tank of capacity 10,000 liters ( change to KN = 1liter=0.025KN,1000*0.025=

25KN) and assign it as a point

load to the column joints , select the the columns , go to assign- joint/point
loads- force and fill the Z axis value with -25KN

Assigning a wall load

Go to assign - Frame/Line Loads- Select Distributed (Select Load Case- Wall under
Uniform load assign a value of 14KN

Meshing of Slab Floor -

Two types of meshing

1. Automatic Meshing
2. Manual Meshing

Go to Edit - Mesh Area - Select Mesh Quads/Triangles into 4 by 4

for Automatic Meshing go to assign- shell area mesh - Area object mesh

if the slab property is assigned as shell( like in the case of Cantilever Slab),
there is no need to mesh manually
because when you go to analysis , a shell slab gets meshed automatically.

For Sesimic load pattern , define lateral option

Modify Lateral Load - fill the following loads

EQx - X Dir

Time Period-- select program Calc Ct(ft)= 0.031

Story Range ; Top Story- ROOF LEVEL , Bottom Story - BASE

Factors ; Numerical coefficient Rw = 4

Sesimic Zone factor Z ; Select User Defined = 0.05

Site Coefficient, S = 1.2

Importance Factor , i = 1

How to Create an envelope the different combination:

Go to define - Load Combination - Load combination name - Comb7; load Combination

Type , Select ENVE,

From Case name Drop Down , select each load combo created and add,

The main advantage of creating a combination envelope is that by selecting COMBO7,

we will be provided

with maximum and minimum values combination selected in the created Envelope( i.e
max and min of combo1 upto combo6)

===============================
===============================

Analysis and Design of the model:

First analyze the model for any error, go to analyze- check model

for analysis , Go to Analyze- Run Analysis

to Calculate the time period for each model cases, go to icon 'show deformed shape'
and click on it,

For designing of footing , take the unfactored value load combo to run the
analysis.

For seeing Support Reaction , select Support/Spring Reaction- select

combo6( unfactored load combination)

For checking the Design go to Design- Concrete Frame Design - Start Design/ Check
of structure ( change the unit to

KN.mm)
