2. The students will be able to design system components or processes to achieve some
engineering needs within realistic constraints such as environmental, and health and safety,
manufacturability, and sustainability (c) .
3. Students will develop the ability to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems using
statistical methods (a,e)
4. Students will be able to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary
for engineering practice (k).
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
• Appreciate the nature of statistical data and understand various methods of collecting
statistical data.
• Utilize various methods of summarizing and describing collected data.
• Employ statistical techniques to understand the nature of relationship between two
quantitative variables.
• Apply the basic concepts of probability theory (which is the foundation of statistical
inference). Understand the concept of discrete probability distributions and their mathematical
properties.
• Analyze the concept of continuous probability distributions and their mathematical properties.
• Calculate the probabilities of independent and dependent events.
• Calculate a correlation coefficient and equation of a regression line.
• Understand and employ various techniques of estimation and hypothesis-testing in order to
draw reliable conclusions necessary for decision-making in various fields of human activity.
• Solve problems (including word problems) utilizing arithmetic concepts and algebraic
equations. (Mathematics)
