IPSF Code of Ethics and Conduct

PREAMBLE
The International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation (IPSF) is a professional international organisation and as
such holds those in close association with IPSF in high esteem. IPSF holds official relations with several high level
International Organisations, including the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) and the World Health
Organisation (WHO). Pharmacists and Pharmaceutical Scientists are recognised as experts on Medicines and are
given a responsibility to maintain the health of patients, and the public in general. As students of these disciplines
we are held to a higher standard ethically, legally and morally than the general public, and such IPSF holds its
members and associates to this higher standard.

APPLICATION
This code of ethics and conduct applies to all those who are part of the IPSF Team and any person attending an
IPSF event and thus representing IPSF.

DEFINITIONS
IPSF - The International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation
IPSF Members - Any IPSF Member Organisation (Full Member or Member in Association) and their members, any
IPSF Individual Member, or person attending an IPSF event
IPSF Event - Any event that is defined as an IPSF event by the IPSF Official Documents
Code - The IPSF Code of Ethics and Conduct as defined in this document
IPSF Partner - Any Professional, Student or Other Partner that holds official relations with IPSF
FIP Code of Professional Standards - The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Code of Professional
Standards available at www.fip.org
IPSF Official Delegates - Official Delegates are members nominated by IPSF Member Organisations to represent
them at General and Regional Assemblies
Illicit - Against the law of the Netherlands and/or the host country of an IPSF Event
Services of IPSF - Any task that is undertaken for IPSF, including: representing IPSF at external events, hosting an
IPSF Event, actively undertaking tasks within the mandate of an IPSF portfolio etc.
Whistle-blowing - the reporting of any activity that is considered to be within breach of the code.

ETHICS
At all times, those in the service of IPSF should uphold the high standard expected from those representing IPSF.
Any behaviour that would be deemed unacceptable, by the IPSF Executive or General Assembly, or that would
damage the reputation of IPSF or IPSF’s relationship with any of its partners will be in breach of this code.

Honesty

It is expected that at all times IPSF Members act openly, honestly and with integrity and show the same virtues, at
all times, to every IPSF Member and Partner.

Respect

IPSF is a multi-cultural federation that embraces and welcomes all cultures and people; in recognising this, it is
expected that IPSF Members show respect (have due regard for someone's feelings, wishes, or rights),
understanding and tolerance to all other IPSF Members and their culture, religion and beliefs.

Professionalism

All those within the service of IPSF must maintain a high level of professionalism, ensuring that they maintain the
professional image of IPSF. Any behaviour that damages IPSF’s reputation of IPSF’s partnerships is considered to be
unprofessional. IPSF’s professionalism standard are also aligned to the FIP Code of Professional Standards. As such
a breach of the FIP Professionalism standards would be a breach of this code. ‘Whistle-blowing’ activity is
encouraged and commended if an IPSF Member encounters behaviour that is in breach of this code.
Safety

All IPSF Member should expect safety at all IPSF Events and all IPSF Members are responsible for ensuring a safe
and welcoming environment.

OFFICIAL DELEGATE BEHAVIOUR


All IPSF Official Delegates are expected to act in a way that reflects the views of the IPSF Member Organisation
that they are representing. IPSF Official Delegates should not use their privileged position for personal gain beyond
that of what could be gained by an IPSF Member.

CONFLICTS OF INTEREST
All IPSF Team members must declare any conflicts of Interest (actual or perceived) to the IPSF Executive
Committee. The Executive Committee then has the power to decide the severity of the conflict and if the conflict
needs to be resolved. If the IPSF Team member is unwilling to resolve the conflict it may result in removal from
their role.

ALCOHOL
IPSF encourages the responsible service and responsible consumption of Alcohol, all those consuming Alcohol
should always know their limits and ensure the safety of themselves and all other IPSF Members. Additionally,
Alcohol should never be the sole focus of any IPSF Event or activity. IPSF also recognises that IPSF Members also
choose not to consume Alcohol and thus should always have a safe environment and alternatives to Alcohol.

ILLICIT SUBSTANCES
IPSF is against the use of Illicit Substances for recreation or other use.

TOBACCO
IPSF recognises the tremendous strain on both Individual and Public health caused by Tobacco and Smoking and
thus IPSF has a strict no Tobacco policy. All IPSF Event are non-smoking events. Any person within the services of
IPSF should refrain from Smoking.

BREACHING THE CODE


Any person that breaches this code shall be given an official written warning by the IPSF Executive. If there are
continual breaches of this code then additional action should be taken by the IPSF Executive, this may include:
exclusion from social events, expulsion from IPSF Events, banning from future IPSF Events, fines to the Member
Organisation, removal from an IPSF Team position, any other action as seen as necessary by the IPSF Executive or
General Assembly. If the IPSF Executive or General Assembly believe that a serious breach (for example, but not
limited to: illicit activities, severe damage of the IPSF reputation or causing harm to another person) of this code
has occurred then the warning step may be skipped.
