1001 Uses of Coconut Palms

Coconut palm trees are a common sight along the beaches in

Malaysia. Coconut palms grow well in sandy soil along the coasts.
You can also see them growing in neat orderly rows in coconut
estates though these have mostly been replaced by oil palm
plantations in many places.

When young, coconuts are green. These young coconuts produce

a delicious and refreshing drink. Coconut water is very popular on
a hot day. The kernel or flesh of young coconut is edible and very
delicious. Milk can be extracted from the kernel of mature
coconuts to use in cooking curries, making desserts and cakes. It
makes the dishes more creamy and delicious.

Besides that, the coconut palm has many other uses. For example,
the husk provides oil for cooking, fiber for clothing and for making
strong ropes. The oil extracted from the coconut is used for
cooking and can be applied on wounds to speed up the healing
process.

Sometimes, a special monkey or macaque is trained by its owner

to pluck coconuts from the trees. This creature is skillful and
intelligent, for it is able to select and pluck a particular coconut
which is required by its owner and not just any nut it likes. It is
interesting to watch a macaque at work.
