GE 8152 - ENGINEERING GRAPHICS

UNIT - I
1. Construct an ellipse when the distance of its focus from its directrix is equal to 50 mm
and the eccentricity is 2/3. Also draw a tangent and a normal to the ellipse.
2. Draw a hyperbola when the distance between its focus and directrix is 50 mm and
eccentricity is 3/2. Also draw the tangent and normal at a point 25 mm from the
directrix.
3. The focus of a conic is 50mm from the directrix, Draw the locus of a point P moving
in such a way that its distance from the directrix is equal to its distance from the focus.
Name the curve. Draw a tangent to the curve at a point 60mm from the directrix.
4. A circle of 50 mm diameter rolls along a line. A point on the circumference of the
circle is in contact with the line in the beginning and after one complete revolution.
Draw the cycloidal path of the point. Draw a tangent and normal at any point on the
curve.
5. A circle of 50mm diameter rolls on a horizontal line for ¾ of a revolution clockwise.
Draw the path traced by a point P on the circumference of the circle. Also draw its
tangent and normal at any point on the curve.
6. Draw the Involute of a square of side 25mm. Also draw the tangent and normal at any
point on the curve.
7. Coir is unwound from a drum of 30 mm diameter. Draw the locus of the free end of
the coir for unwinding through an angle of 360°. Also draw normal and tangent at any
point on the curve
8. Draw the involute of a circle of 40mm diameter, when a string is unwound in
clockwise direction .Also draw a tangent and normal to the curve at a point 95mm
from the centre of the circle.
9. Make free hand sketches of the front, top and side view of the object shown in
Figures.

UNIT - II
1. A point P is on HP and 20mm in front of VP. Another point Q is also on HP and
behind VP. The distance between their end projectors is 60mm. Draw its projections if
the line joining P & Q makes an angle of 60° with the reference line. Also find the
positions of point P and Q.
2. A Line AB has its end A 15 mm above H.P and 20 mm in front of V.P. The end B is
60 mm above H.P. and the line is inclined at 30° to H.P. The distance between the end
projectors of the line is 55 mm. Draw the projections and find its inclination with V.P.
3. The end P of a line PQ is 30mm above HP and 35mm in front of VP. The line is
inclined at 35°to HP .Its top view is 70mm long inclined at 40° to XY. Draw the
projections of the straight line. Find the true length and inclination of the line with VP.
4. The front view of the line AB is 90mm long is inclined at 45° to XY line. The front
view measures 65mm long. Point A is located 15mm above HP and in VP. Draw its
projection and find its true inclination.
5. A straight line ST has its end S 10mm in front of VP and nearer to it. The midpoint m
of the line is 50mm in front of VP and 40mm above HP. The front and top views
measures 90mm and 120mm respectively. Draw the projections of the line. Also find
the true inclinations with VP and HP.
6. A line AB, 90 mm long, is inclined at 45° to the H.P., and its top view makes an angle
of 60° with the V.P. The end A is in the H.P and 12 mm in front of the V.P. Draw its
front view and its true inclination with the V.P. Also draw its traces.
7. A regular hexagonal lamina of 40 mm side is resting on one of its corner on H.P. Its
surface is inclined at 45° to H.P. The plan of the diagonal through the corner which is
on H.P. makes an angle of 45° with XY. Draw its projections. Also draw its traces.
8. A circular plate of diameter 70mm has the end P of the diameter PQ in the HP and the
plate is inclined at 40° to HP. Draw its projections when the diameter PQ appears to be
inclined at 45° to VP in the top view.
9. A rectangular plate of side 50x25 mm is resting on its shorter side on HP and inclined
at 30° to VP. Its surface is inclined at 60° to HP. Draw its projections.
10.A regular pentagon of side 30mm is resisting on one of its edge on HP which is
inclined at 45° to VP. Its surface is inclined at 30° to HP. Draw its projections
UNIT - III
1. A cone of base diameter 50 mm and axis length 65 mm is resting on HP on a point on
the circumference of the base with its axis inclined at 40° to VP and parallel to HP.
Draw its Projections.
2. A cylinder of diameter 30 mm and axis length 50 mm is resting on the HP on a point
of its base, so that its axis is inclined at 45° to HP and parallel to VP. Draw its top and
front views.
3. A pentagonal pyramid has an altitude of 60 mm and base side 35 mm. The pyramid
rests with one of its sides of the base on the HP such that the triangular face containing
that side is perpendicular to both HP and VP. Draw the projections.
4. Draw the projections of a hexagonal prism of base side 20 mm and axis length 50 mm,
when it rests on the ground on one of the edges of the base and the axis inclined at 35°
to the ground and parallel to VP.
5. Draw the projections of a pentagonal prism of 30 mm base edges and axis 60 mm long
when the axis is inclined at 75° to the HP and parallel to the VP, with an edge of the
base on the HP.
6. A square prism of base side 35mm and axis length 60mm lies on the HP on one of its
longer edges with its faces equally inclined to the HP. Draw its projections when its
axis is inclined at 300 to the VP.
7. A square pyramid of base side 35mm and axis length 65mm is resting on HP on one of
its triangular faces with its axis parallel to VP. Draw its projections.
8. A right pentagonal pyramid of side 20 mm and altitude 50 mm rests on one of its
edges of the base in the HP. The base being tilted up such that the apex is 30 mm
above HP. Draw the projection of the pyramid when the edge on which it is resting is
perpendicular to VP.
9. A cone, diameter of base 55 mm and height 60 mm, is resting on HP, on one of its
generators with axis parallel to VP. Draw the projections of the cone.
10.A right regular hexagonal pyramid, edge of base 25 mm and height 50 mm, rests on
one of its base edges on HP, with its axis parallel to VP. Draw the projections when its
base makes an angle of 45° to the HP.
UNIT - IV
1. A cone, diameter of base 60 mm and height 60 mm, is resting on HP on its base. It is
cut by a plane inclined to HP at 30° and perpendicular to VP. The cutting plane passes
through one of the extreme generators at a height of 10 mm above the base. Draw the
front view, sectional top view and the true shape of the section.
2. A hexagonal prism of side of base 35 mm and axis length 55 mm rests with its base on
HP such that two of the vertical surfaces are perpendicular to VP. It is cut by a plane
inclined at 50° to HP and perpendicular to VP and passing through a point on the axis
at a distance 15 mm from the top. Draw its front view, sectional top view and true
shape of section.
3. A pentagonal pyramid, side of base 35 mm and axis 60 mm long, rests on HP such that
one of the edges of the base is perpendicular to VP. A section plane perpendicular to
HP and parallel to VP cuts the pyramid at a distance of 20 mm from the corner of the
base nearer to the observer. Draw its top and sectional front views.
4. A vertical cylinder 40 mm diameter is cut by a vertical section plane making 30° to
VP in such a way that the true shape of the section is a rectangle of 25 mm and 60 mm
sides. Draw the projections and true shape of the section.
5. A square pyramid base 40 mm side and axis 65 mm long has its base on HP and all the
edges of the base are equally inclined to VP. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular
to VP and inclined at 45° to HP and bisecting the axis. Draw its sectional top view and
the true shape of the section.
6. A pentagonal prism of base side 30mm and axis height 75mm is resting on its base on
HP with two of its lateral surfaces parallel to VP. It is cut by plane perpendicular to
VP and inclined at 45° to HP, bisecting the axis. Draw the development of the lateral
surfaces of the lower portion of the prism.
7. A cylinder of diameter 45mm and height 70mm is resisting vertically on one of its
ends on the HP. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to VP and inclined at 45° to HP. The
plane meets the axis at a point 35mm above the base. Draw the development of the
lateral surface of the lower portion of the truncated cylinder.
8. A circular hole of diameter 30mm is drilled through a vertical cylinder of diameter
50mm and height 65mm. the axis of the hole is perpendicular to VP and meets the axis
of the cylinder at right angles at a height of 30mm above the base. Draw the
development of the lateral surface of the cylinder.
9. A hexagonal pyramid of base side 30mm and height 65mm rests on its base on the
ground with a base edge parallel to VP. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to VP and
inclined to 55° to HP and meets the axis to a height of 30mm from the base. Draw the
later surface development.
10.A right circular cone of base diameter 50mm and height 75mm is resisting on its base
on the ground. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to VP and inclined at 30° to HP. The
cutting plane bisects the axis of the cone. Draw the development of the lateral surface
of the truncated cone.
UNIT - V
1. Draw the isometric projection of a frustum of a hexagonal pyramid when it is resting
on its base on the HP with two sides of the base parallel to the VP. The side of base is
20 mm and the top 8 mm. The height of the frustum is 55 mm.
2. An object consists of a hemispherical vessel of 80mm diameter which is placed
centrally over a cylinder of 50mm diameter and height of 60mm. the cylinder in turn is
placed centrally over a square prism of 60mm base side and 20mm height. Draw the
isometric projection of the object.
3. A cylinder of 50mm diameter and 75mm height stands with its base on HP. It is cut by
a section plane inclined at 45° to HP and perpendicular to VP, passing through a point
on the axis 20mm below the top end. Draw the isometric projection of the truncated
cylinder.
4. A cone of diameter of base 60mm and height 65mm is rest with its base on HP. A
cutting plane perpendicular to VP and inclined at 30° to HP cuts the cone such that it
passes through a point on the axis at a distance of 30mm above the base of the cone.
Draw the isometric projection of truncated cone showing the cut surface.
5. A hexagonal prism of base side 20mm and height 40mm has a square hole of side
16mm at the centre. The axes of the square and hexagonal prism coincide. One of the
faces of the square hole is parallel to a face of the hexagonal prism. Draw the
isometric projection of the prism with hole to full scale.
6. A rectangular prism of base 30 x 15 mm and height 40 mm rests on the ground on one
of its base ends with one of the lateral edges touching the PP and the shortest edge of
the base inclined at angle of 40° to the PP. The nearest vertical edge is 15 mm to the
left of the station point which is at a distance of 55 mm in front of the PP and 30 mm
above the ground. Draw the perspective view of the prism.
7. Draw the perspective projection of a cube of 25 mm edge, lying on a face on the
ground plane, with an edge touching the picture plane and all vertical faces equally
inclined to the picture plane. The station point is 50 mm in front of the picture plane,
35 mm above the ground plane and lies in a central plane which is 10 mm to the left of
the center of the cube.
8. Draw the perspective view of a pentagonal prism of base side 30mm and height 50mm
when it rests on its base on the ground plane with one of its rectangular faces parallel
to and 20mm behind the picture plane. The station point is 45mm in front of the
picture plane and 60mm above the GP. The observer is 20mm to the left of the axis.
Using the top view and the end view draw the perspective view of the prism using
visual ray method.
9. A rectangular pyramid, base 30mm x 20mm and axis 35mm long is placed on the
ground plane on its base, with the longer edge of the base parallel to 30mm behind the
picture plane. The central plan is 30mm to the left of the apes and station point is
50mm in front of the picture plane and 25mm above the ground plane. Draw the
perspective view of the pyramid.
10.A regular hexagonal pyramid of base edge 20 mm and height 35 mm rests on its base
on the ground plane with one of its base edges touching the picture plane. The station
point is 30 mm above the ground plane and 40 mm in front of the PP. The central
plane is 30 mm to the right of the axis. Draw the perspective projection of the
pyramid.
