[Abstract: Hospital is services oriented project, deals in the basic understanding of the layout of
programme and complex relation between them with involvement of services consideration in
design. It is an essential requirement to examine the emerging issues, analyze the challenges,
appreciate the emerging trends and study the various strategic options available for designing,
planning and constructing a hospital.]

5. Scope of project: The project is 700 bedded multispecialty hospital. It is services

oriented project, deals in the basic understanding of the layout of programme and
complex relation between them with involvement of services consideration in design .

Site area – 15 Acres
Approach – Road from three side and plot on south side
i. Road on east side : 45 mts wide
ii. Road on west side : 18 mts wide
iii. Road on norh side : 24 mts wide

7. Spatial requirements –

Project has very vast set of requirements and overall around one lakh sqft. of covered
area. Some of the requirements of the project are:-
OPD, General Ward , Emergency, Operation Theatre, Blood Bank, Pathology, Medical
Stores, Cardiology ,Gastroenterology - (Medical & Surgical) ,Internal medicine ,
Urology & stone clinic , Nephrology & Dialysis , Diabetology , Neurology ,
Orthopaedics , Obstetrics & Gynecology , Infertility , Paediatrics & Neonatology,
Dermatology, Psychiatry Ophthalmology, ENT ,Oncology, Geriatrics ,CT SCAN ,
M.R.I & X-RAY, Ultra sound. echo, dopler, Mammography,Colonoscopy, Endoscopy,
Manometry, E.R.C.P, Echo-sonography , Genetics & molecular biology lab etc.

10. Dwarka is a fast developing area which has taken on the character of a mini city. Hence
large government facilities are the need of the hour. Bharat Ratna Indira Gandhi
Hospital is first government funded multispecialty hospital in Dwarka. This is a 700
bedded hospital which will further be extended to medical college, presently the site
area is 15 acres but the project will be extended by acquiring 10 acre of land for second
phase.

12. Reason for taking up the topic:

Hospitals are not just ordinary buildings in terms of their design; there have spiritual,
cultural, economic, social and demographic dimensions. Hospitals are amongst the
largest and most complex of all modern institutions. Unlike other organizations, which
may be built in various ways, hospital building has lesser choices. It differs from other
building types in the complexity of functional relationship that must exist in the various
parts of a hospital. Apart from providing the right environment for patients and care
providers, it should also be sensitive to the needs of the visitors including patient’s
families. It is an essential requirement to examine the emerging issues, analyze the
challenges, appreciate the emerging trends and study the various strategic options
available for designing, planning and constructing a hospital.
