Introduction of Everlast Enterprise

Company Profile
EVERLAST Enterprise of SMJK Phor Tay is a whole-owned subsidiary of the
Young Enterprise Program 2015, registered with the Penang Young Enterprise
Secretariat.
We, the twenty-one (21) young achievers, were supervised by three teacher
advisors and ten corporate advisors from Seagate. Everlast Enterprise is a handicraft
based company. Our natural all-handmade products are classified into two (2) main
categories that are essentials and accessories.
We have each identified a total of eleven main products with 100% unique designs
with superlative standards which will fulfill our company objectives and highly suitable
for our target customers.
Logo and objectives
Everlast carries a meaning of continuing
to exist forever. Akin to our friendship,
even though we only worked as a team
for 9 short months but the bond of
friendship fostered will last forever. In our
company, we are not just mere friends
but more like a family. We work together
for the benefit of the company and its
share holders. Besides that, our company
logo; a big yellow sun represents our
everlasting passion and enthusiasm
towards YE. The young shoot represents
us, the young generation that are
budding to grow and will never give up
and resilient just like grass. The word
'Everlast' is in green colour to represent that our products are environmentally friendly to
influence our customers toward an eco-friendly lifestyle. The colours we chose to be in
our logo are green and yellow which are our Phor Tay High School official colours. In
short, teamwork is the key to a successful company. Our objectives are to enable
achievers to learn the importance of entrepreneurship, leadership and team work.
Furthermore, we also create awareness of high quality handmade products and the
importance of buying Malaysian made products to help boost our local economy.

Report From Managing Director

EVERLAST Enterprise was formed on 25th of February 2015. The company is


registered under the Penang Young Enterprise Secretariat. I, Teoh Jun Jie, the
managing director of EVERLAST Enterprise am honoured to be appointed to lead the
company. I carried a great responsibility of having ensure the company achieved its
targets and objectives throughout the year. It is inevitable that we encountered a lot of
challenges and setbacks but we stood firm on our beliefs to do our best and now it has
finally we taste the sweet fruits of our labour. From the beginning everything was a
challenge, but our team worked hard to beat all the odds. This transformed us from an
ordinary team to a productive and a great sales team! We felt that we were rookies
competing in a tough business world. As the managing director I knew my
responsibilities to my team and also to my shareholders. Meetings were scheduled from
time to time to discuss on the direction that we are heading and the progression of our
manufacturing process and business target. Throughout the year, we have participated
in various activities including workshops, team building and sales. Besides that, we also
attended a team building session sponsored by our corporate company, Seagate
Technology. The team building event enhanced our team spirit and our confidence
towards the YE agenda. We also managed to obtain from our school management a
project which was to customize Teachers’ Day gifts. This comprises of handmade pen-
drive holders for every single teacher in our school. In July 2015, our Grand YE Sales
took place at 1st Avenue. At this event, we were humbled as we truly learned how to
deal with the real world customers. Normally, we would have our sales in school and all
of our customers are students. But in this event, we had to deal with people from all
walks of life and we learnt to be courteous, humble, patient while providing the best
customer service to fulfill our customers' needs. It was truly a successful and
unforgettable event. We obtained valuable experience and enjoyed ourselves very
much during this learning process. Also to our sponsored company, Seagate
Technology, corporate and teacher advisors, I would like to express my sincere
gratitude to you all for your dedication and guidance. Last but not least, I wish to thank
all my team members again for their sacrifices, commitment and contribution towards
our company. All the hard work and effort put in through the year now becomes so
meaningful and so useful to us in our future. We have done a great job this year! Well
done!

Report From Finance Director Report

On 26th February 2015, Everlast Enterprise was formed by 21 achievers. With
luck, I was voted as the Finance Director. Therefore, I am responsible for all the assets
and funds of the company. Besides that, I am in charge of the cash flow as well. From
collecting payments from our investors to purchasing materials, I monitor every
transition concerning money. I have to prepare the monthly account statement of the
company and ensure all the transactions are documented accordingly to supporting bills
and receipts.
We have managed to sell 400 units of shares to teachers and students of SMJK
PhorTay as well as the corporate advisors from Penang Seagate. Furthermore, I have
prepared all the financial reports for the Annual Report. However, I have to ensure that
all outstanding cheques have been cleared before closing the bank accounts and cash
accounts. Lastly, I have to summarize the financial statement for all the shareholders
and publish the final finance performance during the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Conclusion, I am confident that I have learnt to manage my finance better. I
believe that to manage a company well, I have to look into the welfare of our staff
extremely well.
After long discussion with my assistant, we concluded that we will pay our Board
of Directors (BODs) fairly for the work they have contributed:
a) Salary
b) Commission
c) Direct Labor
To further show our appreciation to our staffs, we put aside RM 840 for our
annual appreciation lunch.
Furthermore, we also pay out:
a) Bonus RM400 (RM1/share)
b) Dividend RM9/share (450%)
c) Return of Capital (RM2.10/share)

As the Operation Director in the company, I coordinate work from the design

stage to the final product. I drive the four departments in our company which are
Research & Development, Purchasing, Production, and Quality Control. I make final
decision based on members’ ideas. We have 14 products this year, including jeans
pencil case (with 2 sizes), 3 zips pencil case, 3 zips pouch, Everlast bag (with 3 sizes),
jeans bag, multipurpose holder, plugy, jeans tissue cover, jeans lip stick holder, leather
keychain, and bookmark. I always look into all matters related to the production
process. I also direct and motivate the four managers to meet their schedules.

Research and Development Manager


As the Research and Development Manager, I worked hand in hand with the
marketing department to produce creative designs that are easy to manufacture and
sell. I studied the customer`s needs and developed new products. I researched ways to
produce the products in the easiest way. I looked into different materials to make our
products more creative and cost effective. I guide and lead the achievers to produce
products so that they hand up the right prototype which the marketing department will
use to conduct market survey. I also discuss with the Production Manager to draw up
and modify the production flow to produce large quantity in a limited time. Whenever our
product was rejected by the Quality Control Department, I will troubleshoot the problem
and resolve it with the Quality Control Manager.
Purchasing Manager
As the Purchasing Manager of Everlast enterprise, I am the one who is
responsible to purchase raw materials for production. I scouted around for various
sources to get the materials needed. I spent time comparing the quality and price of the
materials and I only bought materials that are good in quality and reasonable in price. I
adhered to the budget which had been discussed and approved by the Finance
Director.

Our production team did a great job. This year production line was a success,
thanks to everyone for putting in such good effort. We managed to reach all targets in
time. As a production manager, it is my responsibility to ensure the flow of production to
run smoothly and the production team achieves their weekly target.

Our production cycle started from February until July, we spent all the time that

we had including every Saturday, public holidays and also school holidays to
manufacture our products. The production time on Saturday starts from 12 noon to 3.00
p.m. On school holidays, we used up half of the holidays for production in our YE room.
When the first sets of product were made, many failed the quality control test. So
we started to standardize our quality referring to our prototypes. For example, the size
of our Everlast bags were not the same. After we addressed this issue, this problem
was solved.

Quality Control Manager


Quality Control is a crucial aspect in perfecting a product. It ensures that our
products are high quality enough to be sold to our customers. Being the Quality Control
Manager, I carry out numerous quality checks to ensure our products are in good
shape. Incoming raw materials and outgoing products produced were thoroughly
checked to ensure sub-standard products do not leave our production lines. Whenever
rejection was detected, the products will be return to Production team to be redo or to
be scrapped. Both Quality Control department as well as the Research and
Development department will then find out the root cause and attend to the quality issue
with the input and collaboration with the Production team. We worked together to find a
solution to improve the product.

Report From Sales Director Report

As the sales director of Everlast Enterprise, I have to ensure that products can be
sold and targets are achieved. I have to set targets for each sale. Prices of products
have been set after a discussion with the finance director. It is my responsibility to
ensure that every member of Everlast Enterprise knows how to market products to
customers. I also have to work together with marketing director to set prices for
promotions and happy hours. After sales, I have to record and account the money
during sales and hand it over to finance director.

Report From Marketing Director Report

As the director of marketing department, I was given the responsibility to


ensure our department runs smoothly. We conducted surveys regarding our company
products and gathered all feedbacks given by the respondents. We also improved our
products depending on the customer’s feedback to meet our customers’ needs. As our
company involves many sale events such as cross-country sales ,Mother’s day sales
and annual YE grand sales ,we conducted many surveys to find out our target
customers age range and work around it. We also set up marketing strategy such as
RM 2 discount for Phor Tay students and teachers during the YE grand sales. The main
purpose of conducting this strategy is to encourage our own schoolmates and teachers

to support our company. During the YE grand sales ,we also organized a Happy Hour

Finally, we hit the target and exceeded our goals with the total sales of RM5657.

Report From Human Resource Director Report

As the Human Resource Director, my duties and responsibility and to take care
of all matters that related to Human Resource such as discipline, safety, health,
administration and recruitment. HR Director needs to bind everyone together to work
toward a goal and objective. Besides that, having to monitor all members put in equal
hard work into the company, I also have to make sure that all programs and events are
carried out smoothly with proper planning and training. It is very important that there is
sufficient work force.
As we have many programs and events I need to allocate sufficient manpower to
every function’s timetable and I have to make sure that the timetables are adhered
strictly to avoid shortage of manpower. Discipline in the company is essential to ensure
that all staffs comply with the rules and regulation of the company at all times. I am also
responsible to take attendance of all my BODs in every function we participate or
organize. As a HR Director, I have to ensure that everyone’s safety is prioritized at all
times, regardless of whether they are travelling or when they are on-site to promote our
company products.
Our first sales event was held on April 2 nd during our school’s Cross Country. For
this event I have to arrange the time table carefully as some of our BODs took part in
the cross country .We also had many sales opportunities, as this event was held in
Botanical Garden, so we managed to sell to the general public too.

Community Service for The Penang Old Folk’s Home

Key Takeaway: To enhance caring value and responsibilities towards the
community
Lesson Learned: To give more care and attentions to the elderly.

We have been planned this even for a month ago. We also collect some donation
from the school community for purchasing diapers, the balanced from the donation we
divided and given as ang pao.
Mr. Tan, one of the Penang Old Folk’s Home Manager, briefed 21 of us about the
mission for the day and also told us about the history of the old folk’s home. After that,
we performed for the old folks in the main hall of Penang Old Folk;s Home. Our talented
BOD’s sang and danced gracefully for them.Besides that, we went to every room to give
out ‘ang pao’ and oranges.
When we finished all our jobs, we had some chatting and sharing session with
those old folks. Before we took our leave, we thanked Mr. Tan and said goodbye to the
old folks to giving us the opportunity to fulfill our commitment in performing community
service.
We were very pleased with ourselves because we had manage to contribute to
the community.

Being the MD of the company, I have gained a lot of distinct experiences
and learned the importance of a leader in a team. Leader is the one who
make the final decision and set out target for the team. I was quite
frustrated at the beginning as I faced problems to get our team members to
work. But after a brain storming session with my advisors, I adopted a new
style of management, which including leadership by example, providing enough space
for our members to show their talents and be more friendly with them. I finally solved my
problems. Our team members are more confident in voicing out their opinions and we
worked more closely together. Finally, I found teamwork and corporation. I really
appreciate my teachers and cooperate advisors for their advice.

As an Assistant Managing Director, I have learnt to be tolerant. I fully
understand that I must follow instructions given by MD, although I can voice
out my opinions. I also have to work hand in hand with all my board
members to ensure that our company flow smoothly. I have to be strict and
patient, especially to those who have attitude problems. Sometimes I have
to accept the fact that I am not at the top of the leadership hierarchy, instead I learnt
how to lead through the problems we faced. At first, I was lacking of confidence but now
I am proud to say that I am officially an experienced person and I am ready for my own
future. Although I feel that the time in YE is probably full of hard work with blood, sweat
and tears but are also fill with moments full of love, memories and happiness.

Company Secretary : Yeoh Ke Qin


YE had taught me to cooperate and have great teamwork. It is important to
be precise and punctual as a secretary. If not everything will be messy.
Sometimes it is quite stressful, but I have learnt to be calm and work
towards the set target. My mates, seniors and teachers gave me lots of
support and I continued my journey with them, together as one. Honestly
speaking, YE is the best club that I ever joined. I truly felt the bond between the
members. We are like a big family. I am glad I decided to join YE!

Assistant Company Secretary : Goh Shin Yee


I am the Assistant Company Secretary. I have to be the extra eyes and
ears of the company. I have to jot down every decision made during the
meetings including complains we gathered from our customers. Next, I
must also make sure that all the reports are hand in on time, so I had
learnt to be a punctual person. Being an assistant secretary has taught
me to be more alert. YE took away a lot of my time, but I am indeed glad I joined!

Operation Director : Kuah Xiao Ying
As the Operation Director of the company, it is truly challenging to do my
job well because it is an important position in the company. I’ve learned to
make decisions so that the productions could flow smoothly throughout
the year. At first, I was far too easy-going to be the slave driver and kept
tolerating the others who refused to do their jobs. As expected, the
production of products cannot meet the targets. Then, I realized my job as the
Operation Director, I have to be friendly but strict! I have to be friendly so that others
would dare to approach me but at the same time they have to respect me and aware
that I mean business when an instruction is given. I never regretted joining this program
which gave me a lot of confidence. I have learned useful tips for my life.

Assistant Operation Director : Lim Yi Hong


I appreciate that I had been choose to be Assistant Operation Director. My
job is to assist my director to make sure that our department flows
smoothly. Part of my job is to make sure that 4 managers perform their
tasks on time. Therefore, we work hand in hand with full respect and
responsibilities. I have to make sure that our vision is clear before
proceeding on. This is an important lesson in life - have a clear vision and the work
towards the goal.

Human Resource Director: Kung Eu Jun


My job is, basically to help everyone to solve their problems by finding the
root of the problems and at the same time, I have to compliance my MD’s
orders. This is exceptionally important to ensure that our company runs
smoothly as ‘a happy employee will be the company’s best assets’. Thus,
this had taught me that I have to precise with my choice and job in future.
The best proof how happy our staffs are working for this company is, hitting far better
then what we have targeted.

Assistant Human Resource Director: Wilsred Lee Wei Jie


I am Eu Jun’s assistant, the Assistant Human Resource Director and my
job is to make sure that our staffs’ problems are solved promptly and
amicably. I do the division job assigned to whole heartedly, that is to
ensure that the welfare of all our BODs are well taken care of.

Sales Director : Eng Shu Wei
Through YE, I learnt a lot of things that is not taught in classes, like
teamwork, leadership and friendship. The most important value I have
learnt is trust. It takes a long time to grow an old friend, and trust is built in
a moment at a time. It might not be easy to trust people, but its hard even
get people to trust you. As a sales director, I learnt to trust all my BODs to
handle customers. I also learnt to trust both of my assistants to help me with my job.
Besides that, I realized that to be creative in thinking of ways to sell our products and
ways to attract customers are extremely important.

Assistant Sales Director : Tan Ke Xin


Besides the normal social skills acquired, through YE I have learned a lot
of other very useful skills such as sewing and making all kinds of creative
crafts. As an Assistance Sales Director, I have to be innovative and patient
in order to sell off our products. When our customers do not show interest
in our products, we still have to put a smile on our faces. These
experiences are assets that money cannot buy.

Assistant Sales Director : Kenwin Lim Yong Hong


YE had taught me to be realistic and reasonable, which indeed are
essential values to hold on to, for a successful life. Before fixing the price
for our products, I have to make surveys to make sure that we did not
overcharge our future customers. Although we may make fast big profit
from fixing a high price, but this will not give us a good name, nor will it
last. Being realistic, consistent and patient will, in the end bring us success and glory,
which now will be my motto in life.

Marketing Director : Desmond Chin Lim Jian


The ultimate goal of my job is to convince our customers to purchase our
products. For that, I learnt to plan and also able to communicate well.
Besides that, I also learned the importance of the 4P’s in marketing; that
are place, product, price and promotion. I also came to understand that in
order to get loyal customers, we have to win their trust. A trustworthy
person ‘will win all’. This value is indeed essential in life.

Assistant Marketing Director : Le Khanh Linh

Joining YE is the most satisfying decision I had ever made. YE gave me an
opportunity to explore my strength, and work on my weaknesses. It
improves my sense of responsibility and accountability. It helped me to
develop my character. As an Assistant Marketing Director, I had learnt how
to sell my products effectively to my targeted customers. I came to realise
that the Marketing Department must work closely with the Sales Department. And to
ensure a success, we need to visualize the marketing strategy to reach our goal such
as doing marketing research, sales promotion and advertising our products on
media .We are a big family, I love YE!

Finance Director : Chan Ei Won


Throughout the year, I have learnt how to plan the finance of the whole
company and have to make sure that overspending never happens. Besides
that, I learnt to reserve money for future plans for the benefit of the
company. I must be very strict in controlling expenses. I figured out that
comparing prices of materials is very essential as it can affect our net profit.
The most important of all is I have learnt how to manage the money of the company
carefully, as my responsibility towards our shareholders. The money is theirs and I have
to be responsible of handling it with great care.

Assistant Finance Director : Ngu Wan Ying


Being an Assistant Finance Director, I cooperate with Finance Director all
the time. I also became more confident to manage my own money after I
successfully managed our company’s cash. My designation also trains my
patient as when I am counting the money it needs a lot of patient and
concentration. Gaining priceless values through only a year’s involvement
is indeed beyond my expectations but YE had proven that it is possible!

Production Manager : Saw Hui Ling


Being the Production manager, I've learned to make decision so that our
production could flow smoothly throughout the year. I am happy that the
production flow smoothly and hit all the target set. Besides, I learnt the
importance of planning before holding any event. If we don't plan well, we
will panic. These qualities certainly have made me a better person in the

Research and Development Manager : Tan Chai Shiuan
As an Research and Development Manager, I realized that attitude is the
most important thing. I have learnt to cooperate with each other to create
the products which are more attractive and less expensive. I have to do
surveys to get good prices for our materials without compromising the
quality. Therefore, more company’s money can be saved and the products
are also in a good quality. YE indeed taught me to be selective.

Purchasing Manager : Ong Mee Yeen


As a Purchasing Manager of the company, I am responsible for all the
purchasing matters related to the manufacturing of a product. These are
my official responsibilities. My designation requires me to communicate
with the Finance Director. I need to discuss with her about the price.
Therefore, I need to confirm and measure that I purchase the raw
materials are at the best price and meet the specified quality standard too. I am happy
that I handled my job well for the year and I am indeed a more confident person.

Quality Control Manager : Tan Swea Chee


As the Quality Control Manager, I have to ensure that our team produced
superlative, high quality products. I need to work closely with the
purchasing manager to ensure that the raw materials are of the quality and
specification needed. I also carry out strict checking on each production
process, to cut down on defects. I really learned that I have to be précised
in life.

Information Technology Manager : Glenn Koay


I am the IT man in YE. My job is to use my knowledge in IT to enhance
our company. With this, I gained knowledge that we can always make full
use of our talents to create opportunities for ourselves. Thank you YE for
highlighting this to me.

Assistant Information Technology Manager : Kenneth Harriot


I helped my manager to create the website for the company. Glenn
thought me better ways to use the technologies for the benefits for our
company. Thank you YE for giving me such a memorable experience.
