Exercise 1

Analyse the simple cantilever beam of span of length 4m each, cross-section 350x450mm of
800 N throughout the span. E = 25000 N/mm2

800 N

4m

Procedure:

Creating Part
1. In the Module list, go to the Part Module.
2. Select Part › Create.
Choose the modelling space, type, base feature & approximate size, then click
continue.
3. Draw the cross section of the beam and give the required length.

Creating Material
1. Go to Property under module list.
2. Select Material › Create to create new material.
Name the material and give elasticity details under mechanical properties.

Defining & Assigning Section Properties

1. From main menu bar, select Section › Create.
2. In the dialogue box, give the name, category (solid) & type (homogeneous), then hit
continue.
3. In the Edit Section dialogue box, give proper input and click OK.
4. From main menu bar, select Assign › Section.
5. Select the beam and click Done.
6. Accept the section and click OK.
Assembling The Model
1. In Module list, go to Assembly.
2. Select Instance › Create.
Select the created beam and hit OK

Defining Analysis Steps

1. In Module list go to Step.
2. Usually there will be two steps:
 An initial step where one constrains the ends and gives boundary conditions.
 A general, static analysis step where the load is applied to the beam.
The initial step will be created automatically but not the analysis step.
 Go to Module › Step.
 Select Step › Create.
 Name the step, select Static, General click Continue.
Applying Boundary Condition & Loads
1. In Module list, got to Load module.
2. Select BC › Create
3. In the Create Boundary Condition dialog box, name the boundary condition and then
select initial as the step.
4. In the Category list, accept Mechanical as default category selection.
5. In the Type for Selected Step list, accept Symmetry/Antisymmetry/Encastre as the
default type selection and click Continue.
6. Apply required boundary conditions at the supports from BC › Manager.
7. Select Load › Create.
8. From the Create Load dialog box, select appropriate loads and give the user-defined
step as the load step.
9. In the Category list, accept Mechanical as default category selection and select the
desired toad Type.
10. Enter the amplitude and select the section where load is to be applied.
Meshing The Model
1. Go to Module › Mesh.
2. Select the Element Shape from Mesh › Controls.
3. From main menu bar select Seed › Instance and give desired element size.
4. Go to Mesh › Instance and mesh the beam.

CREATING & SUBMITTING ANALYSIS JOB

1. Go to Module › Job.
2. Select Job › Create.
3. After creating the job, submit it for analysis.
