Explain following functions available in MS excel with


proper example.
Sum(), Sort(),Max(),MIN(),Average(),TODAY(),now(),
UPPER (), LOWER ().

Assignment-8
A class had a batch of 10 students whose result of
selection test were published on 15th March 2016.
The format of the mark sheet of the examination is as
follows:
Name Subject1 Subject2 Subject3 Subject4 Total Percentage Average

Each subject has a total marks of 100.


Using electronic spread sheet, calculate the following
with the appropriate formulae and functions.
Total marks of each student
Percentage of marks of each students
Average marks of each students.

Write down the steps to sort data in the range cell and
implement it .

Sort text
1. Select a column of alphanumeric data in a range of cells, or make sure that the active cell is in a table column
containing alphanumeric data.
2. On the Data tab, in the Sort & Filter group, do one of the following:
o To sort in ascending alphanumeric order, click Sort A to Z.
o To sort in descending alphanumeric order, click Sort Z to A.
3. Optionally, you can do a case-sensitive sort.

How to sort by case-sensitivity

a. On the Data tab, in the Sort & Filter group, click Sort.

b. In the Sort dialog box, click Options.


c. In the Sort Options dialog box, select Case sensitive.
d. Click OK twice.
4. To reapply a sort after you change the data, click a cell in the range or table, and then on the Data tab, in
theSort & Filter group, click Reapply.

Issue: Check that all data is stored as text.

Sort numbers
1. Select a column of numeric data in a range of cells, or make sure that the active cell is in a table column
containing numeric data.
2. On the Data tab, in the Sort & Filter group, do one of the following:
o To sort from low numbers to high numbers, click Sort Smallest to Largest.
o To sort from high numbers to low numbers, click Sort Largest to Smallest.

Issue: Check that all numbers are stored as numbers

Sort dates or times


1. Select a column of dates or times in a range of cells, or make sure that the active cell is in a table column
containing dates or times.
2. Select a column of dates or times in a range of cells or table.
3. On the Data tab, in the Sort & Filter group, do one of the following:
o To sort from an earlier to a later date or time, click Sort Oldest to Newest.
o To sort from a later to an earlier date or time, click Sort Newest to Oldest.
4. To reapply a sort after you change the data, click a cell in the range or table, and then on the Data tab, in
theSort & Filter group, click Reapply.

Issue: Check that dates and times are stored as dates or times .

1.To use Goal Seek to find out how much sales must increase to return a net
income of $300,000 in the first quarter.

2. To use Goal Seek to find out how much sales must increase to return a net
income of $500,000 in the second quarter.
3. To use Goal Seek to find out how much sales must increase to return a net
income of $600,000 in the third quarter.

Write down the steps of goal seek .

Select the cell containing the formula that will return the
result you're seeking; in this example, cell C7.
This cell contains the formula that calculates the forecast for the first quarter of 2016.

On the Data tab, choose What-If Analysis→Goal Seek in the
Data Tools group.
This action opens the Goal Seek dialog box. Because cell C7 is the active cell when you
open this dialog box, the Set Cell text box already contains the cell reference C7.

Select the To Value text box and enter the goal.
This is the value you want the formula in the Set Cell box to reach. In this example,
it's300000.

Select the By Changing Cell text box and select the cell that
you want to change.
Excel will change the value in this cell reference to try to reach the goal in the To Value
box. In this example, cell C3 contains the first quarter sales. The absolute cell address,
$C$3, appears in the text box.

Click OK.
Excel displays the Goal Seek Status dialog box along with the results. In this example,
Excel increases the sales in cell C3 from $250,000 to $545,455, which, in turn, returns
$300,000 as the income in cell C7.

If you want to keep the values entered in the worksheet as a
result of goal seeking, click OK.
The Goal Seek Status dialog box informs you that goal seeking has found a solution
and that the current value and target value are now the same.
