Welcome! This morning, Pastor Steve continues his sermon series
called Dare2BeWise, a study of Proverbs. We will also celebrate the
Lord’s Supper. Wine is placed in the center and middle of the tray
and grape juice on the outside ring. Our benevolent offering will
be designated for the “Biblical Counseling Center.”

Youth Group Kickoff– All Jr. and Sr. High students are invited to
a youth group kickoff on Sunday, September 19th from 7 – 8:45
PM at the home of Bill and Deb Grysen. Food and refreshments
will be served. Come celebrate that a great new year is coming!
ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Love INC Food Pantry is low on some of the products which
are provided to our LOVING HELP Program clients. The
following items are needed: canned fruits, Spam, Spaghettios,
flour, sugar, brownie mixes, frostings, mayonnaise, snack cups,
plastic wrap, aluminum foil, garbage bags, dish soap, shaving
cream, men’s deodorant, all-purpose cleaner and diapers, size 4 &
5.
HUGS Ranch will have a Fall Festival as a fundraiser on
Saturday, September 18, at 3:00 PM. Join us at the ranches for an
afternoon of games, pony rides, face painting and more! At 4:00
PM, Chad Coppess will give a presentation on "Cross Training
Horsemanship". He will use horses to illustrate truths in human
relationships, and how humans are like horses and must listen to
their Master. There will be a freewill offering. Bring your lawn
chairs and your whole family for a great time! The ranch is located
at 284 Byron Road in Byron Center.

Sunday School Training - Harvest OPC would like to invite you

to join us for a Sunday School Teacher Training on Sat.,
September 25th, 2010. We’ll have a continental breakfast
from 8:30 to 9, and begin at 9:00 am. We plan to have several
people demonstrate teaching methods and techniques. Each will
begin by describing their style and goals and then teach from the
same passage of Scripture so we can compare techniques and
style. We anticipate finishing up at 12:30. We’ll meet at Harvest

 FALL SUNDAY SCHOOL MINISTRIES
 Adult Class for Men and Women – What is God like? What are
his qualities that make us love and admire him? Come join our
co-ed adult class as we study “The Atributes of God” by A.W.
Pink. Teacher: Dan Rook. Location: Gymnasium.
 Couples’ Class for Married and Singles – We all long to be
deeply connected with our families. However, for many of us,
this longing goes largely unmet. In “House or Home? Eight
Essentials for Building a Close-Knit Family,” we will walk
step by step through Ephesians 5:21-6:4 and learn how to
become a closer family that perseveres. Teacher: Dan & Deb
Kooienga. Location: Teacher’s Lounge.
 Sr. High Class – This fall, our senior high class will develop
their leadership skills with the guidance of Pastor Steve as he
unfolds “Spiritual Leadership,” by J. Oswald Sanders.
Teachers: Steve Igo, Lynn Igo, Dean Bekkering. Location: Art
Room.
 Jr. High Class – 7th – 8th grade students will study God’s Grace
in You, God’s covenant plan and how we fit into it. Teacher:
Bill Grysen. Location: Southwest Teacher's Lounge Room 1.
 Older Elementary Class – 5th – 6th grade students will study The
Gospel of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, the life, work and
teachings of Christ in the Gospels. Teacher: Reese Haywood.
Location: Southwest Teacher's Lounge Room 2
 Middle Elementary Class – 3rd - 4th grade students will study
God’s Grace in the Law, applying the Ten Commandments
through a study of the book of Exodus. Teacher: Diana Sprik.
Location: Library Hallway.
 Early Elementary Class – 1st – 2nd grade students will study
Obeying God, stories about the prophets and kings of Israel.
Teacher: Candice Bekkering. Location: Resource Room.
 Preschool Class – 4s & K students will be discovering God’s
thrilling rescue of Israel from Egypt and how the Old Testament
points to the Savior, God Leads His People. Teacher: Christina
Hartwell. Location: West Classroom.
 Toddler Class - 2s & 3s will study God's Family, beginning the
line of promise from Adam through Joseph. Teacher: Stephanie
Haywood. Location: Nursery Hallway.

“WEDNESDAY NIGHT IS FAMILY NIGHT AT CEDAR OPC”
This Wednesday, our midweek services begin from 7 PM to 8:30 PM.
Nursery will be provided. (Church nursery opens at 6:30 PM).
 New Testament Bible Study – The Old Testament is beautifully
fulfilled in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ! Pastor
Mick Knierim explores this marvelous theme in a study of the
Book of Hebrews. Your time will also include a period of
prayer requests and intercessory prayer.
 Blessed are the Peacemakers! – Are you in a significant conflict
right now and don’t know what to do? Or maybe you would like
to build stronger interpersonal skills. Join Pastor Steve as he
teaches material by Ken Sande on Peacemaking. This is the
same material Pastor has taught with great success for 5 years at
Love Inc. You won’t want to miss it!
 Catechism Club – Deb Grysen and Lynn Igo will lead our
midweek Catechism Club for kids age 4 through 4th grade.
Using materials from CMI (Children’s Ministry International),
this fall we will cover the theme Covenants and Promises, how
God makes and keeps promises! Catechism is designed to teach
kids about the basics of the Christian faith through simple
questions and answers. We will promote memorization using
Bible stories, music, skits, activities, service projects and more.
 Cadets – We have a great boys club called Cadets, led by Mr.
DeWent, Dykema, and Stanley. Boys 5th grade and up will meet
together for exploring, projects, meeting new friends, Bible
study, outings and much more.
 Girl's Club – Girls Club (for girls 5th grade and up) will resume
this year under the leadership of Pam Himebook and other
women. Friendship, crafts, and activities will accompany
weekly Bible study and devotions.
 Financial Peace University – A Dave Ramsey video class
followed by small group meetings on how to handle your money
God's way. Led by Deacon Jim VanDorp (Harvest OPC), this
class begins at 6:30 PM!
 Nursery - Childcare will be provided, under the coordination of
Carla Baker.

 FALL MINISTRIES AT CEDAR

Jr. High & Sr. High Youth Group – Beginning September 19th,
Cedar Youth Group will meet every 1st and 3rd Sunday in the school
gymnasium after evening worship from 6:45 to 8:15 PM for food,
fellowship and fun together. The purpose of this ministry is to
disciple youth, strengthen relationships among youth & with adults,
and to assimilate young people into the faith and life of Cedar
Church. Leaders: Bill & Deb Grysen, Paul & Diana Sprik, Steve &
Lynn Igo.

Ladies’ Bible Study – Beginning September 21st, Vivian Garen will

lead the Ladies’ Bible Study every 1st and 3rd Tuesday from 9:30 AM
to 11:00 AM at the home of Steve and Lynn Igo. The ladies will
study of a “30 Day Walk with God in the Psalms” by Nancy Lee
DeMoss. Childcare is provided through our Bible Club ministry.
Newcomers are always welcome!

LOVE, Inc. – This fall, Cedar Church will now host a Bible Study at
Love Inc each week. We meet with Love Inc. clients from 7 to 8 PM
at Hillcrest CRC in Hudsonville. The elders would like to encourage
members of Cedar to volunteer as Financial Counselors that evening
as well. For more information about training, see Pastor Steve.

Holland Rescue Mission – Cedar Church hosts a monthly worship

service every other 1st Thursday at 7 PM at the Holland Rescue
Mission. Pastor Mick Knierim will preach, and others can provide
special music and testimony. Please see Pastor Mick for more
information.

Sunday Jail Ministry - Every 5th Sunday, Cedar Church will host a
Sunday service at the Kent County Jail from 12:45 PM - 2:15 PM.
Several times a year, we will also host a service at the Ottawa County
Jail from 1:45 PM – 3:00PM. For more information, see Pastor Steve
or Elder David VanDyke.
