TASK 1: Diary and Letter Writing

Due: Week 5

Weighting: 20%

Using what you have learned about the war from the letters and diary entries you have
studied, you are required to write either a letter or diary entry from the point of view of a
soldier. Your written piece should show a clear understanding of the issues faced by those
who were fighting in the war in terms of conditions, daily routine, experiences and their
feelings towards both being away from home, and being enlisted as a soldier. You can
choose whether your written piece covers WWI or WWII, or a more recent conflict.

Be sure to use the correct format for your chosen piece.

It should be interesting and engaging, with a real sense of the person coming through.

The text should be drafted and edited and the final version should be approximately one
page in length. You may break this into a series of diary entries or letters, or simply write
one long one.

Your finished product should indicate the following:
