FAMILIES AT FIRST PRES

First Pres has three rooms to help young families on
Sunday mornings: one nursing room for mothers & infants,
next to the Prayer Room, between the Sanctuary and Lee
Fellowship Hall, and a second nursing room for mothers &
infants, on the 1st floor of Clayton Life Center next to the
elevators.

In addition, we have a Family Room for infants, children and

dads :-) , also on the first floor of Clayton Life Center.​
All three rooms have a live television feed from the worship
services.

Our Genesis services utilize an environmental lighting effect

called haze, a theatrical humidifier to thicken the air to enhance
lighting. Both Lee Fellowship Hall and Sanctuary hazers are
water-based and safe.

NOTES
Traditional Worship
You will notice the presence of the large cross at
the front of the Sanctuary as we have entered the
season of Lent. Fasting and prayers have long been
a part of the Church. There are multiple references
to such throughout the Scriptures. Certain days
of the week were fast days as a part of spiritual
discipline. About the fourth century we see the first
references to the “forty,” a forty day time period
of fasting and prayer commemorating Jesus’ forty
days in the wilderness. The churches observed this
period of time as preparation leading up to Easter.
It also marked the conclusion of a two to three
year study of those wishing to become Christians
in preparation for their baptisms at the Easter
Vigil, a few hours before sunrise Easter morning.
As part of our preparation for Easter Sunday, each
week we’ll be adding another element to the cross
visually reminding us of various aspects of the most
signficant event in the world’s history. Today you
see the money bag, speaking to us of Judas’ betrayal
of the Savior for thirty pieces of silver.

YEAR OF THE BOOK!

THIS WEEK'S DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. What is the most valuable (monetary or sentimental)
item you have ever given away? How difficult was it
to let it go and give that item to someone else?
2. The concept of "first fruits" may sound foreign to us
today, depending on where we live and whether
or not we live in an agricultural-based economy.
Nevertheless, the expectation that we offer our first
and best to God is clear. Why do you think God
requires our first fruits?
3. In the same way that obedience and worship are
intertwined in the story of Abraham and Isaac (please
see week 2), the giving of our first fruits is also
intertwined with worship. What is the connection
between giving and worship?
4. Last week, we examined the Ten Commandments
and even explored Jesus' summation of the
commandments (Matt. 22:36-40) in that we are
to love God and love neighbors. Do you see a
connection between the Ten Commandments and
this command on first fruits? How can giving God our
first fruits help us to better love Him and neighbors?
5. Not only is giving an act of worship, but it is also a
way through which we help our community. Giving to
those in need is assumed by Jesus in His Sermon on
the Mount in Matt. 6:1-4. Why do you think Christians
should join together in their giving efforts to those in
need?
6. What kind of impact should our larger congregation
have in helping the greater Orlando community?
7. When it comes to your own giving, what is one
action you can take this week to better foster a spirit
of generosity?

Center, on the first floor of the Edington
Ministry Center, or under the Angel Wing,
