B. Operation

(1) Remove extinguisher (Fig 1) from bracket (Fig 2)

(2) Lift safety catch on operating head.

(3) Aim Extinguisher at base of fire

.
(4) Squeeze trigger. This fractures the frangible seal on the syphon tube
assembly discharging the contents through nozzle. On releasing the
trigger the spring forces the cylindrical piston onto the secondary seal
‘O’ ring . Thus interrupting the flow of extinguishant and preventing
leakage of any remaining agent in the container.

(5) Operation of the trigger also fractures the indicator disc Fig 1 (140)
RED, causing it to eject from the discharge head assembly Fig 1 (100),
thus providing a visual indication that the extinguisher has been used.

(6) The optimum distance from the fire for effective firefighting, is
between 4 and 6 feet, with the extinguisher held within 30o either side
of vertical

2. CLEANING

A. General

(1) No special materials are required for cleaning. The outside of

extinguishers should be cleaned with cotton wipers, removing grease
and dust etc.

(2) Discharge Heads should be clean and free from foreign objects.
