ADVANCED DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING

MACHINE PROBLEM NO. 3: MULTIRATE SIGNAL PROCESSING

GENERAL INSTRUCTION:

1. Make a separate .m file for each part.

2. Make a doc file for the signal plot generated.
3. To get the full points, document your work very well such that at every step, it is clear how you
came up with the decision and your work should be repeatable. For example, if you decide on a
filter length of 12, explain why.

PART I. UP-SAMPLING BY AN INTEGER FACTOR

1. Modify the m-file shown below to study the operation of a factor-5-up-sampler and factor-6-up-
sampler on the following input sequences: (a) sum of three sinusoidal sequence of normalized
frequencies 0.3, 0.5 and 0.75 rad/sec, (b) ramp sequence and (c) Square wave sequence with
varying duty cycles. Choose input length of 100.

3. The m-file below creates a band-limited sequence and plot the spectrum of the sequence.
Generate the spectrum if the sequence is to be (a) down-sampled by a factor of 2 and (b) up-
sampled by a factor of 5. What happen? Describe the resulting spectrum.
